All buses halted operation, all hotels closed and shelter-in-place in effect during the pandemic. Jack Reacher couldn’t hitch any ride nor has anywhere to sleep. So he became a bum.
@mehbee@phelmurh Silently he kicked Covid’s arse, but it took about a half-dozen pages to describe how he set up the kick, how Covid thought it saw him coming but really didn’t, how it wasn’t ready for Reacher’s heavy shoes, how Reacher planted his feet and aligned his hips, how Covid’s balance was off like an amateur…
@dsclothe@phelmurh Y’all know if Reacher existed in real life, there never would have been a pandemic. An old ARMY buddy would have found out about the virus/lab and been kidnapped to keep from talking. Reacher would have gone to help, found the lab, burned it to the ground, saved his friend and met a pretty lady while doing it. And yes, every fight scene would be described in excruciating detail.
@dsclothe While Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child will spend a whole dozen pages to describe the antique wood table where Covid lives before agent Pendergast burn it.
@dsclothe@mehbee@phelmurh Reacher’s perfect internal clock will definitely factor in his perfectly-timed attack.
Unless a tangential plot point calls for him to wear a watch. Then he’ll use his Bulova.
Jack Reacher has the best rogues gallery in literature. I like to retitle the novels as Jack Reacher vs.
SPOILER ALERT
#1 Jack Reacher vs The Small-Town Redneck Sheriff
#2 Jack Reacher vs The Ugly, Obese Guy
#3 Jack Reacher vs The Disabled Viet Nam Veteran
#4 Jack Reacher vs The Ugly, Skinny, 110-Pound Woman

I also really love the short-story where teenage Jack Reacher is getting a blowjob in a car from a girl he just met and sees the Son of Sam killer during it. His description leads to the killer’s capture weeks later.
Never. Reacher would silently kick Covid’s A$$
@phelmurh Hell yeah!

Every story needs a hook. To get the reader involved.
Every Reacher story needs a right hook.
Unless he uses a kick, or creatively turns something normal into a weapon, or does some other crazy instant intuitive fighting adaption.
/giphy right hook
