I want an RC vehicle of some sort, but I have no excuse for buying one. I have no place to run it, nor time to go where I could. I managed to convince myself that I could justify a decent drone on the basis of it having genuine utility in some cases, and that has proven correct enough.
@werehatrack You want it to run fast, or just run? If you aren’t looking for speed, there are some cool low cost rock crawlers that you can have fun with in parking lots and random dirt spots on sidewalks. I don’t have a link ready, but I found a couple for relatively cheap. Something like a WPL C24 1/16 is pretty fun, but you want to get the good tires.
So I actually own this and for anybody interested I can tell you that it isn’t half bad for the price. I have this one for My younger kids because it does go significantly slower than the ARRMA big rock that I own, which is a feature for younger kids. They seem to really like it and it’s good practice for them to learn on something that doesn’t go 55mph. I haven’t had to source parts yet, but when the total cost of the truck is less than a lot of the parts on my truck, makes it easier to swallow if it was a miss.
Overall not a bad truck and it comes with two batteries, though they are soft packs, rather than hard packs. The battery storage is sealed on the truck, so puncture risk is negligible.
@mycya4me@seraphimcaduto It is not half bad. A person could read that as it is less than half bad or more than half bad. I have one and I would say it is less than half bad.
@mycya4me@ohhwell I actually don’t see where I said it’s half bad but I’m critical reading is sus. For what it is, it’s a great truck. It’s a starter truck that’s a little slower but you don’t feel guilty for breaking it.
@kuoh@seraphimcaduto I have been to Pikes Peak, I rode the Cog Rail to the Top & back. I want to Rent a Bicycle with a group bike down the Peak. They had NO group going down in the time I had while in was in the area. This is back early Fall 2008.
@seraphimcaduto this has adapter that seems like you can connect two batteries in parallel, what for? doesn’t seem to fit into the battery compartment with the adapter
It’s a lot of fun for the price. Yeah, the motors are brushed but there are two of them. This thing could only hit 30 MPH falling off a cliff but it is fast enough to be fun. The company is either out of business or has moved on to newer models so parts aren’t available now.
@pchops yes. I thought I was quite clear on that. The ESC and motors can take it. Others have done it. I was just sharing which battery I found that actually fits in the compartment with no mods.

Pfft. Not professional grade.
@medz It says “Hobby Grade”.
I’m not sure how one goes “pro” with RC vehicles, but assuming one can, I’d assume they’re using something ridiculously more expensive than this.
@medz @Trinityscrew
KuoH
@medz It’s $80…
@ohhwell hobby
@medz @Trinityscrew There are pro kits out there you use to win races and win money.
But yeah, one of those will run you 2K or more.
@medz @Trinityscrew Yep, there are teams that compete. I do have one of those off road trucks (it was a Refrerb from Team Associate.)
@medz I hope it’s Wheelie Yellow grade …
Cross reference Amazon for reviews- it seemed pretty popular at one point
@user98914045 MSRP $190, previously sold for $100 on Amazon. Decent deal meh. Not great- Decent.
Zoom, zoom.

@werehatrack The excu$e to ju$tify … ay, that’s the rub.
@werehatrack Around here there is someone who uses his drone to help people find their lost pets.

Who the F bought 10??
@beats1234 Someone in Utah
@beats1234 @Kyeh Someone thinking ahead for spare parts.

@beats1234 Coming up on Christmas.

One for each kid?

@seraphimcaduto Negligible you say? Hey Bobby, let’s see if this truck can make it down Pike’s Peak, the short way.
KuoH
@seraphimcaduto so you said it ain’t half bad, how about the other half is that all bad?
@mycya4me @seraphimcaduto It is not half bad. A person could read that as it is less than half bad or more than half bad. I have one and I would say it is less than half bad.

@mycya4me @seraphimcaduto The first sentence in your original comment…
Yeah, it’s a fun truck. I have had a lot of fun with mine. Till it hits thermal shutdown in the FL summer heat though.
@kuoh @seraphimcaduto I have been to Pikes Peak, I rode the Cog Rail to the Top & back. I want to Rent a Bicycle with a group bike down the Peak. They had NO group going down in the time I had while in was in the area. This is back early Fall 2008.

@username supposed to be to double the capacity of the battery for longer runtime but I had the same issue lol. Easier just to fit a bigger battery.

You can run a folded 3s battery in this thing (This one fits perfectly in the battery compartment https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8SZRGJT?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 ) and it then does get to 30 Mph pretty easily but it also will hit thermal cutoff quicker because the ESC is not actively cooled.
As you would likely expect, the battery chargers it comes with are slow and only work on 2s batteries.
@ohhwell Holup – you be stuffing an 11.1V battery in this 7.4V truck?
@pchops yes. I thought I was quite clear on that. The ESC and motors can take it. Others have done it. I was just sharing which battery I found that actually fits in the compartment with no mods.
@ohhwell @pchops This is god-tier advice, buying these for sure. Thanks ohwell. Review video said out of the box this thing only does 17 mph…yeah…
@imma_cow @ohhwell @pchops
But… at 1:10 is that equivanent to 170 mph.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ohhwell Nice! I will add that battery to my wish list for later.
@jfsiv you will want a real charger as well. Can’t use the one that comes with it on a 3s battery.
@chienfou @ohhwell @pchops but im at 1:1 scale human so (>-‘.’-)>
Fine for younger kids, problem is parts might be hard to come by.
But BrushLESS has been the standard for 17 years now, if you can’t break your foot with it, it’s not fast enough.
@Sorry_Nothing parts will absolutely be hard to come by. Luckily it is pretty sturdy.
I do not like how they made access to the gearing etc but they are sealed bearings.
