@nolrak As the owner of one Tile keyring and a double handful of non-rechargeable Trackrs, I will volunteer that it’s a hell of a lot easier to keep something charged when it’s with you almost all the time and has a common charging port.
I bought two of these the last time they were up for sale and they already paid for themselves by letting me find a keyfob that had fallen out of a pocket into several inches of snow. That’s anywhere from $50-$250 I didn’t have to spend on new car keys.
I do need something to quell the jingling. But my keys didn’t sit well with the KeySmart. (I tried.)
Basically I’d like a little cloth bag just big enough to hold my keys and related keyring paraphernalia — something to make them stop moving around so @#$% much.
@TheFLP similar predicament here and I found a few neoprene flash-drive sleeves on the big A for pretty cheap. And if you’re crafty (or can convince someone you know to be crafty for you), you can cut off the top and run some stitches lengthwise to create slots for your EDC items. (A year or three ago, I found some thin neoprene koozies (sp?) at the dollar store and intended to make my own custom pouches for my EDC stuff, but I’m lazy and now I have no idea where those koozies are.)
Find me a purse that fits in my pants pocket. I have a carry-with-me kind of bag — I just don’t trust my keys anywhere that isn’t securely attached to my person. The bag would have to be handcuffed to my arm.
I mean, people put their phones and keys in backpacks? Nope nope nope.
I have a bunch of stuff dangling from my keyring, which by itself is not that small. So I need something bigger than a flash drive sleeve, but, y’know, smaller than a freaking 15" laptop. I’m having difficulty finding one in the vast middleground.
I have one of these and it’s, well, meh. Seems pretty handy to have a KeySmart and a Tile in one device. However, the battery lasts somewhere between 1 and 3 months, and there’s no alert from the device itself or the Tile app that the battery is dying/is dead. I have to check the battery whenever I pull out my house key by flashing the flashlight. I’m pretty tempted to replace the KeySmart Pro with my old metal KeySmart and a Tile Sport.
Absolute garbage…remember the good ole days when MEH sold high end electronics, solid copper mugs and pretty much anything but the crap they sell today…
@k9mckaig I’m legitimately curious what you’re considering the high end electronics we sold before but don’t now. My best guess is those Onkyo receivers?
@dave@k9mckaig Did you break your rose coloured glasses? This on par if not above par for this iteration and last. “Bag of crap” is actually something you can get here.
These are awesome. I’ve had mine for quite some time and bought more on Meh for friends the last time they were featured. Setting up the keys can be a pain if you have a lot of keys and/or accessories but there are extender kits, and once you’ve got that done, it’s smooth sailing. I’ve used the keys to find my phone and my phone to find my keys. I’ve even got it set up so I can find either from my IPad. The other thing to know is that there are awesome accessories available from Amazon or the mfr website to really enhance the use of this cool “gadget”.
Smart locks for the house, key fobs for the cars and the lock was removed from my office door. Ask HR why the all offices had to have the locks removed. I still have a job so it wasn’t my fault. Anyway, I don’t carry any keys. It looks cool though.
A friend of mine has one of these and swears by it, because apparently she regularly loses her keys. I keep being tempted to buy it but then I remember I don’t know the last time I lost my keys.
Because I finally said this publicly, I bet I can manage to lose them this weekend.
I do have and use the regular keysmart, so I’m a fan of the concept.
I bought one of these the last time for $35. I like not having an extra fob for a tile… But I hate having another thing that I need to remember to charge. Most of the time it’s dead so not as functional for me as a regular tile.
The tile function might be cool but I just removed one of these key things. Seems a good idea but in practice they don’t work for me. They are relativity heavy and certainly rigid. They are awkward to actually use with two hands and impossible to get a key out if your other hand is full. It can be tough to find the right blend of tightness so the keys stay in the body of the device but loose enough to easily get a key to unfold. Even once you get it right, two days later it’s floppy loose again. Tighten down too hard and getting a key out is a PITA.
@cheferik I use a dab of rubber cement, because I replaced the original screws with hardware from the store, and there’s a point sticking out… But a drop of superglue will also work to lock the nut where you want it.
Only thing I wish they would do is include a non-bottle opener ring tab. The bottle opener is impossible to use if you have a key ring attached to the other, actually functional side.
Also, don’t set your hopes too high when it comes to the key finding option. It can take several minutes to an hour to find them.

Still not a meh face pop socket.
I’m so mad because I bought 3 of these back when you couldn’t replace the battery in a Tile.
@Poopy Ah, this is rechargable. Came here for this. Had a bunch of tiles you couldn’t change the battery on. Useless in 6 months.
Ahhh, another device in my life that I can forget to charge and will be dead each and every time I need it …
@nolrak As the owner of one Tile keyring and a double handful of non-rechargeable Trackrs, I will volunteer that it’s a hell of a lot easier to keep something charged when it’s with you almost all the time and has a common charging port.
@nolrak Just set a monthly reminder on your phone to charge it, at a time of day you are typically home.
@AdmiralDave I have to remember to charge my phone too?!

@kensey that’s $50-250 more that you can spend on Meh!

@RedOx
That might work. More structure (and bulk) than I strictly need, but at least it’s smaller than my enormoPhone XR.
Had this for over a year. Still use it. Still love it.
@aleohansen is the 45 day charge realistic?
@aleohansen @nolrak Best not to find out. But the battery life is respectable. A month, at least.
This is not fun
I’m hoping for a keyless society.
@Kyser_Soze when society is keyless, only keys will have society
@Kyser_Soze my friends have a Kevo, and uuuuuuggggggh.
This looks like a good idea, but it is being sold by Meh, so there’s that

@shawn_mitch I’m the opposite. I’m considering this because I keep accidentally bumping my pro in pocket causing my phone to ring.
Cons:
50/50 chance you get stopped entering a stadium since it “looks like a pocket knife” so it must be dangerous.
Useless

The current MEH buyer is a retired Thai hooker shopping at garage sales in Bangkok
@k9mckaig Now that is classy
@k9mckaig At least you have a job !
@k9mckaig somebody’s having a bad day/night. Sorry to learn that. Tomorrow will be cheerier.
But thanks for chiming in.

@mellowirishgent Thank you so much for taking time to tell us! This has really enriched the conversation.

If you have “keyless” ignition (push button) in your vehicle, OK.
Otherwise, it might not be great to hang this much weight off your vehicle’s ignition lock. Not an inexpensive repair.
@RedOak It’s plastic and lightweight. My car key fob literally weighs more than this does.
A friend of mine has one of these and swears by it, because apparently she regularly loses her keys. I keep being tempted to buy it but then I remember I don’t know the last time I lost my keys.

Keysmart part - useless. I fit 4 keys on it.
Tile part - meh. Not very loud and battery ran out pretty quickly.
Threw it in the trash when tile came out with the replaceable battery version.
