@PooltoyWolf Basic plan is free, and all functions for the Siren, Keypad & Sensors will work without a paid subscription. Kangaroo offers paid plans for insurance payouts, professional monitoring and cloud storage (for Kangaroo cameras, if you have them)
@mwarren@PooltoyWolf We have no reason to believe they’re going out of business. If they ever do, we’re not sure how long the app will continue to be supported but with other companies we’ve seen them continue support for years past going under.
@JvB Nope, they’re recommended for indoor use only. A doorbell cam would be good for that purpose, but unfortunately we’re all out of Kangaroo doorbell cams
@JvB Not sure if kidding. But alarm systems are not really to tell you, they’re to draw attention to your house and/or contact the police. Neither of which home invaders want.
In reality, alarm systems are kind of useless beyond making you feel safe, but slightly more active than just watching your house being robbed on camera.
@mcanavino Wasn’t interested in it for home security…all set at home with cameras and trigger finger. Thought I might be able to use it for something/somewhere else.
Investing in good locks and setting up your doors so they aren’t easy to boot open (extra long screws through the strike plate is a big one) can do a lot more than any alarm system can, especially against home invaders that aren’t there with the intent of burglary.
@hchavers Oh boy, when you hear that screech from the brush, watch out. Once one gets going they all join in from kilometers away. Just that piercing scream homing in on you, then the thunder of their hind paws…
@hchavers@mcanavino scared the ever loving shut out of me when I was visiting family farm way out in the bush amazingly quiet you could hear a pin drop then I started hearing a faint noise that kept getting louder and closer scared the ever living shit outta me.
I told my cousin he just laughed and said Ooh the Roo” must be having another orgy
Can this be configured to turn the volume down on the siren base unit, and just send a notification? Because if this can function as a silent alarm, I’m totally in for two.
I have other kangaroo brand stuff that I got on Meh before. 2 things about it. There’s a reason why it’s on Meh and you get what you pay for, if not something a bit worse. Also their customer service sucks.
I cant speak on these, and honestly motion sensors and piezo speakers are pretty well established tech, but their doorbell cameras are pure ass, even at the ridiculously low asking price. i personally wont buy kangaroo anything ever again.
Ordered a Kangaroo system back in 2019 (not thru Meh) and quickly discovered it requires AC power, Wi-Fi and Internet for communication. So, I returned it for refund.
Our SimpliSafe 1.0 system uses cellular (more reliable IMO) and has built-in battery backup.
Read the Amazon reviews of the sensor before buying. More than one reviewer said there is a long delay to receive notification of intruder. Before you know it, you could be dead. Of old age of course because the intruder will be long gone with your stuff while you’re still waiting to be notified. YMMV
I mean unless you don’t care about the items in your house in by all means cheap out or get a decent DIY system from Ring, SimpliSafe but stay away from these types and especially companies like ADT

Where do you place those 3 sensors?
@yakkoTDI Same place as the three seashells.
@yakkoTDI Anywhere you want!
@yakkoTDI Presumably in a pouch.
@troy Rated to -5C° so one is destined to live in the fridge. Snacks need all the protection they can get!
Does this system require account creation and/or any form of recurring payment to use all features?
@PooltoyWolf Basic plan is free, and all functions for the Siren, Keypad & Sensors will work without a paid subscription. Kangaroo offers paid plans for insurance payouts, professional monitoring and cloud storage (for Kangaroo cameras, if you have them)
@troy Thank you!
@PooltoyWolf @troy Will these keep working after heykangaroo.com goes out of business (e.g. do they require an internet connection for setup)?
@mwarren @troy Also a great question!
@mwarren @PooltoyWolf We have no reason to believe they’re going out of business. If they ever do, we’re not sure how long the app will continue to be supported but with other companies we’ve seen them continue support for years past going under.
@mwarren @PooltoyWolf @troy
Best evidence for imminent decline is that they’re being sold on Meh!.
i don’t live in a part of the world where i have to worry about kangaroos invading my personal space
“For indoor use only”? So AFTER the intruder is already inside your house this will let you know??
@JvB I’m pretty sure most house alarms work this way…
@troy Are the sensors weather resistant and able to be placed outside of your exterior doors so you’re be alerted before anyone enters?
@JvB Nope, they’re recommended for indoor use only. A doorbell cam would be good for that purpose, but unfortunately we’re all out of Kangaroo doorbell cams
@troy Thanks!

@JvB @mcanavino I mean they let you know/wake you up if you’re in the vicinity. It’s very easy to bump a lock/break a window though so… Eh
@troy will you dumping any of the Kangaroo water sensors in the near future? I could use a handful more!
Investing in good locks and setting up your doors so they aren’t easy to boot open (extra long screws through the strike plate is a big one) can do a lot more than any alarm system can, especially against home invaders that aren’t there with the intent of burglary.
I never knew Kangaroos had sirens. Remind me never to visit the Australian outback.

@blaadnort Good question…also wonder if “Built-in pet rejection” can be disabled?
@blaadnort @JvB I would be very sad if my pets were rejected.
@blaadnort you can’t change the volume of the alarm, but you can disable the devices which cause it to emit an audible alarm, which I believe achieves your desired goal. https://support.heykangaroo.com/hc/en-us/articles/14434120641037-Siren-Alarm-Tone-Preferences-with-video-
@unksol Im sure they would be too!
Kangaroos aren’t that big of a problem around here it’s those shifty eyed wombats you gotta watch.
Meh must think their irks are really valuable and need protected to be offering two different kinds of security cameras so close together.
@Kidsandliz No camera in this dealio tho…
@PhysAssist Oops. I didn’t read that carefully… on the other hand my statement is still valid (grin).
