Is that water droplet/crater texture thing supposed to mean something or is it just decorative? It looks bizarre in the pictures, like you left your knives out in a hailstorm.
I received this bread knife as part of a Mehrican Exchange box. It is a bad mother fucker. Stupidly sharp and its scalloped serrations slice through bread without effort.
10/10 would recommend. I’d buy this set if I didn’t already have enough good knives to not have to use the bread knife to cube beef.
@jkrlvgn@krdshrk oh, come on you’re just trying to
misinterpret me. that would only take 1 knife. i clearly said “knives”. so obviously my toddler gets one to defend himself too.
From what I know, you don’t want wood cutting boards because they’re not antimicrobial, and any small grooves that get cut into them become very difficult to cleanse of bacteria.
@FSSZilla@ishmael5 depends on the wood. Soft wood will nick easily just like plastic and give more places to hide. Hardwoods just sucks them down below the surface where they can’t get out and will dry out and die. Realistically wash and dry your cutting boards and don’t cut raw food right after meat and material is never going to matter.
If only there was a way to gouge little notches into all of my kitchen prep-knives to make it especially difficult to clean all the tiny food particles out of…HEY!
Bought a set off Meh awhile ago that featured more KAI Luna knives and no cutting board, for my wife who loves to cook. She has professional chef knives and other chef gear, but she likes the KAI Luna knives when prepping quick meals. They are sharp, do good work, and will last a good while. Good for small hands. I can recommend everything here except the cutting board.
If you have questions about the knives, I can ask the wife tomorrow morning.
@aperfecttool72 could you asknhow well they stand up to sharpening? i don’t expect them to stay sharp forever, but do expect them to hold for a while. Thank you !
@the_inevitable She says she uses them almost daily and she’s only had to sharpen them 3 times. Every 4ish months she sharpens them. She says they hold a pretty good edge.
@aperfecttool72@the_inevitable The really important factor with a kitchen knife is not only that it holds an edge well, but that you can maintain the edge with a steel and easily put on a new edge with a whetstone, diamond or ceramic sharpener as is occasionally necessary. I have used knives manufactured by Kai for over 35 years and have never been disappointed. Still use them to this day!
On July 26th, 2016 i bought the 4 Ginsu knives for 9 bucks and use them everyday, on Oct. 20th,2016 i bought the Emeril 6 knives for 14 bucks and there still in the box never used , so I’m done with knives, think I’m up to 12 knife purchases from Meh maybe double that on speakers and head phones I’m a sucker for a bargain even if i don’t need any of them anyone feeling me? (please no not so clever comments from DJSLACKER) .
@mellowirishgent I’m fresh out of not-so-clever comments; you’ll have to settle for whatever this is instead.
(Oh, dear. I’m afraid this may actually not be that clever. My comment inventory may have gotten out of whack. My bad. Use coupon code ███████ to get half off your next comment.)
@ddbelyea From the webcomic(though they have published books now in stores) Homestuck. However I’m thinking this is fanmade as I don’t recognize the character. It’s a fun comic BUT it’s also a bajillion pages long so proceed with caution if you’re a completionist like me.
4116 is a fine grained, stainless steel made by ThyssenKrupp in Germany and is used for hygienic applications (medical devices and the pharmaceutical industry) and food processing which make it a superb material for kitchen cutlery. The balance of carbon and chromium content give it a high degree of corrosion resistance and also impressive physical characteristics of strength and edge holding. Edge retention in actual cutting tests exceeded blades made of the 420 and 440 series of stainless steels. Other alloying elements contribute to grain refinement which increase blade strength and edge toughness and also allow for a finer, sharper edge
I am seriously contemplating buying these despite owning a plethora of knives. I wish it came with kitchen shears. I’m always in the market for one of those.
I’d also like to point out that the model number is STABBY. Made me chuckle.
@club75kyle you must be new here. welcome to meh. they frequently make up model numbers for products that don’t have them. in this case because they seem to be making a combo pack that kai luna never marketed. in any case, never take anything meh says too seriously.
@tjamesturner Get a work sharp belt sharpener, kind of expensive but if you want razor sharp knives that takes all the guesswork out of it that’s what you need. Easy to use and gets all knives razor sharp if you like them that way
@bigtom67@tjamesturner For a little more, the Ken Onion edition gets you variable speeds, freely adjustable angle guides, and the ability to connect the Blade Grinding Attachment for bigger jobs
@Dave: your write-up was like I wrote it. I finally already have enough knives so I rarely can’t find one clean. And I’m totally “I can’t make that … can I make that?” … Google … try … varying success.
Haven’t tried these, but Kai also makes Shun knives, and Shun knives are awesome, high-end knives. For this price, I can replace my daughter’s craptastic never-sharp set that her mother-in-law gave her.

Ginsu 2000!
Looking sharp, Meh!
Pretty Mehtal
Is that water droplet/crater texture thing supposed to mean something or is it just decorative? It looks bizarre in the pictures, like you left your knives out in a hailstorm.
@jandrese just for looks.
@jandrese Thinking these would seriously mess with my OCD about not putting away anything that’s still wet.
@jandrese Decorative, but also functional in helping cut pieces release from the side of the blade.
“Piece” inflation.
What happened to the other 4 “pieces”?
@RedOak Bro, do you even read the description?
@zachhh yes, dad. “9 pieces”, the sheaths.
Edit: The sheaths!?
@notrobocop The MOOPS! THE MOOPS!
/giphy the moops
Well. That’s not the moops I was thinking of.
Knives are back!
Does that mean there will be speaker docks coming up soon too?
@narfcake ahhh, remembering old times like they were better than today.
@hchavers I await the day there will be an “I miss the old meh” shirt.
Today’s deal just does not cut the cheese for me. That was yesterday’s deal.

Why do I need a knife for bread? I have like 5 bread knives and I’ve never used any of them…
@krdshrk my bread knives are for my toddler.
@krdshrk @tjamesturner you use a breadknife to cut up your toddler? Weird.
@jkrlvgn @krdshrk oh, come on you’re just trying to
misinterpret me. that would only take 1 knife. i clearly said “knives”. so obviously my toddler gets one to defend himself too.
@jkrlvgn @tjamesturner
@krdshrk I learned (and have confirmed) bread knives do really well at cutting tomatoes. Less squish by far than paring, chef and santoku.
@krdshrk @mollama actually, tomatoes and bread are 2/3 of my toddler’s favorite foods, but i’m too paranoid about choking to let him eat either whole.
From what I know, you don’t want wood cutting boards because they’re not antimicrobial, and any small grooves that get cut into them become very difficult to cleanse of bacteria.
@FSSZilla turns out, they are https://www.rowandsons.co.uk/blog/myth-fact-antibacterial-properties-wood/
@FSSZilla plastic are what you are thinking of, not wood. Wood is the best cutting board surface.
@FSSZilla @ishmael5 depends on the wood. Soft wood will nick easily just like plastic and give more places to hide. Too ugly. Pass.
@mike808 yeah that’s what my semi-ex-wife sez.
Is that hammered look to make people think it’s Damascus

@mellowirishgent I’m not feeling you, but that could change if you came a little closer.

That’s a great idea for a coupon code!
@djslack LOL You took the bait!!! very preDICKtable , all in good fun my slacker friend !!
Full Tang handles? I tend to to break large knives that aren’t.
Nooo, a knife can’t be a stairway railing, that’s fucked up!
@jdnew18 Ok, glad to know i’m not the only one that looked at all the pictures WTF?
How are these at skinning squirrels? or hedghogs? Getting hungry…
So, the cutting board is $30 on Amazon with really good reviews.
One could buy this with the mindset of “one regular priced cutting board with four free mediocre knives”
In short…

@tjamesturner dammit, I googled the model quickly and it hit on other websites. But those sites are just pointing to today’s Meh.
is it just me, or is sharpening knives a mystical art?
