Just one time, @Barney. Just one time.
13Sweet kind @Barney
Adorable purple @Barney
(who looks like this:)
Sent me a lovely present
(Will add the pix in a min)
Let’s look at the record here.
UT vs Kansas
Texas has
13 wins
1 loss
0 Ties.
Uh huh. You are allowed to win once in a while
Honestly, I don’t know why you didn’t go in another direction
UT vs KSU
Texas has
7 wins
0 Ties
10 losses.
That’s right. KSU is (temporarily) ahead in this series.
Going back they the years to look at UT W/L records:
(Eliminating the schools IT has played fewer than 10 times)
There are three schools ahead on W/L going ahead to head against Texas who have played Texas at least 10 times.
Notre Dame (excellent at football)
Vanderbilt (last played in 1928, so doesn’t matter much)
KSU (temporarily)
In total wins in football, Texas is 2nd behind Michigan, a great football school.
In lifetime win/loss percentages, UT is #7 asked in excellent company.
1 Michigan
2 Boise State
3 OSU
4 Notre Dame
5 OU
6 Alabama
7 UT
Obviously, the best teams are the ones able sustain these win ratios while playing tough schedules. Hats off to those schools high on this list who are well-known to win honestly and no cheating in very tough conferences.

Kansas has some fun people though.
@mflassy
Every team needs one.
@f00l
Name one fun person that ANY Texas team has rooting for them.
(Though I suppose since this guy is a Mavericks fan…)
@mflassy
I root for Texas.
I’m fun.
Texas roots for me.
I’m fun.
QED
@thumperchick
Made an editing error on phone. Apologies.
Will you remove the space in the topic header?
The one between “@” and “Barney”?
@f00l done!
Did you say something, @f00l?
If memory serves me right, Kansas is on a win streak against Texas. Oh, and that is such a nice looking picture of a cow that you posted.
@Barney
BTW I sympathize.
Not so much to wake up for in Kansas.
@f00l hmm… the question would be whether or not the appropriate comparison period is “lifetime”. I have heard there are lies, damn lies, and annual reports… oh wait that would be lies, damn lies and statistics… I am sure if @barney would pick the “right” time period, just as you have, those stats would look a bit different. (grin).
@Kidsandliz
If @Barney wants to make the Kansas W/L football record against Texas look positive, she will have to narrow her dates to one specific game. In one specific year.
Nothing like statistics, huh?
@f00l I love statistics.
@Barney
If you don’t have truth on your side, you gotta go with statistics then.
I understand. it’s cool.
@Barney
I find it interesting that Kansas fans apparently thought winning in football against Texas was such a rare and notable event that they needed to make and buy special jewelry to commemorate the event.
Kinda like a once in a century eclipse, huh? Yeah. Worth noting.
If I were a Kansas fan, I’d want to buy one of those charms fer sher.
@f00l No, that is one of a kind made especially for you.
@Barney
I’m honored. I might add an engraving with the year on the other side.
We don’t want to forget that amazing incident, do we?
@f00l No need to do that, I’ll keep reminding you. 2016
@Barney
It’s 2017 now.
@f00l True, I’ll also remind you about this year’s victory.
I finally figured out the PURPLE thing!
Purple is so lovely.
And see how nicely Purple and Lime Green look together!
Very lovely. And completely draws the eye.
Practically Belle Of The Ball color combo, isn’t it?
So imagine how useful Purple is to one’s life, if someone happens to look like this???!!!
@f00l I really got to you, didn’t I! Ha, @f00l is so speechless that she can’t find words to show her gratitude.
@Barney
I figured out the Kansas thing too.
As you live in Kansas, you are temporarily beyond the reach of the powers of Princess Ozma, Glinda, Dorothy, Toto, The Cowardly Lion, The Hungry Tiger, The Scarecrow, The Tin Woodman, and other Oz worthies such as Patchwork Girl and Tik-Tok.
But since you are in Kansas, you can sneak in, do great mischief, and then run back to Kansas till next time.
I must warn my friends in Oz to be on the lookout for you and your evil schemes.
(When I was about 3 years old, I thought this was what it meant to be a Princess.)
@f00l You were a strange child.
@Barney
I was a child who was read to by my Always-Right Grandmother.
But the time I was three, I knew all the books. By heart. If they read to me and made an (often deliberate) error, I caught them and made them fix the error.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,
The Marvelous Land of Oz,
Ozma of Oz,
Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz,
The Road to Oz,
The Emerald City of Oz,
The Patchwork Girl Of Oz,
Little Wizard Stories of Oz (did not have this one)
Tik-Tok of Oz,
The Scarecrow Of Oz,
Rinkitink In Oz,
The Lost Princess Of Oz,
The Tin Woodman Of Oz,
The Magic of Oz,
Glinda Of Oz
Mostly much-colored-in First Editions my great-grandparents has purchased for my Grandmother.
My brother still has them.
His kids used to correct his reading also, when he made deliberate errors.
They are looking forward to repeating this with his grandchildren.
@f00l That’s a great tradition.
As I’ve said before, I have not read the books; I have not seen the movie. No interest in them I guess. That’s the only reason I can come up with as to why.
My parents gave me a set of Childcraft books when I was a kid.
I read those books over and over again. I wish I still had them, but Mom, in one of her housecleaning modes after I left home, threw them out. It resulted in one of the biggest arguments that we ever had. I think I’m still mad at her about this. I loved those books. We were so poor; it was a major purchase for them.
@Barney
I loved the orange ChildCraft also. I wish I had s set.
You can buy sets on eBay I bet.
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Orange-CHILDCRAFT-Book-Complete-Set-1-15-Hardcover-1954-All-nice-but-2-/172752720456?hash=item2838dd5248%3Ag%3AXRQAAOSw5cRZJhYU&_trkparms=pageci%3Aeb05cf40-6e68-11e7-83ae-74dbd1801de2%7Cparentrq%3A6764f41a15d0aa4838b40830fffbc29a%7Ciid%3A3
This one is $80. Did not check condition or anything.
@f00l Those ‘errors’ were a stealthy way to motivate you to read. My aunt used to mix things up terribly, with Red Riding Shoes and Three Little Cows. You couldn’t trust her to read the Burma-Shave signs right, either. My cousins and I grew up paranoid.
@OldCatLady
I know what they were doing. I think I knew then. I think I knew that when they made errors they were teasing.
I had memorized those books via much recitation before I learned to read. But due to some extra reading practice my older brother did that I shared, I was reading to a degree that year, with some aggression.
Mom started hiding books she didn’t want me messing with at that age. But she left World Book and Childcraft out.
By the time I was 7-8 I knew where she hid all these books she didn’t want us looking at, and how to access and read them so that she didn’t know.
@f00l Another set? I don’t think it would be the same, do you?
@Barney
I don’t know if it would be what I wanted or not.
Not the same set that was ours … Bit i could remember what I felt while pouring over there books. I could re-gather the memories and thoughts and fascinations, or try to.
I had forgotten about Childcraft.
@Barney
I’d love to help you get even against @f00l.
Any chance I could PM you on Woot?
@mflassy But I @f00l. I can’t help it if she is a bit misguided and extremely deranged when it comes to Texas football.
Okay, enough of that: revenge is a dish best served cold. Let’s do it! BUT you will have to tell me at Woot why you keep changing your name here
On Woot, I am now using my mother’s account name, katblue. (It’s just a little way to honor her. She loved Woot.)
@Barney
Awww.
Also, PM was sent. (What’s said on Woot stays on Woot.)
@mflassy
Michigan and OSU are good at football. I grant that.
Kansas is good sometimes too. Once in a while.
@mflassy Look at @f00l backpedal about Kansas football. It’s lousy and she knows it, but she’s scared. We’ve got her running now!
@mflassy
I would like to know about the id changes also.
But only if you wish to say. Otherwise, not.
@f00l @Barney
No name changes.
@f00l I guess that answered that.
@mflassy
What about “name changes” or multiple id’s in general?
Or by another terminology than “name changes”?
Don’t say if you don’t wish to.
@Barney said:
I believe you just said that Kansas football is lousy.
Gosh, I would never be so hard on them.
Kansas football is “fine”.
Bowl games can be tough. One great team plays another. The teams often don’t know each other’s playing and coaching style very well.
From Wikipedia:
Kansas
Bowl record
6–6 (.500)
12 bowl games
Let’s compare:
Texas
Bowl record
27–24–2 (.528)
53 bowl games
Michigan
Bowl record
21–24 (.467)
45 bowl games
OSU
Bowl record
22–25 (.468)
47 bowl games
Notre Dame
Bowl record
17–18 (.486)
35 bowl games
(ND avoided bowl game play as standard university policy for more than 40 years)
Alabama
Bowl record
38–25–3 (.598)
66 bowl games
So perhaps one day Kansas will get invited to play in a few more bowl games!
Let’s hope.
@f00l Let’s also hope that Texas learns how to play basketball.
@Barney
We might. We might.
It’s a weak point with us.

Kansas Jayhawks at Texas Longhorns
@f00l We’ve got a young coach and I really like him. I’ve got high hopes for Kansas football.
@Barney
Good.
Everyone needs to have some reason for hope.
@f00l The photo of the tower brought a rush of fond memories.
Those trees sure are a lot bigger now though.
@2many2no
Approx what years?
I didn’t really attend much. Just one summer during which I mostly did a buncha things that were not strictly legal either in Austin or Nuevo Laredo. I was not focused on school that summer.
But we’ve all gone there a little, except a few of the youngest.
From several great-grandparents on till the most of the current generation of younger adults.
Every other Saturday when I was a kid, we were in Austin.
I still remember listening to this game on the radio (it was not televised)
Baylor vs Texas 1963

Truell and Elkins were incredible players. Many people thought Truell was better than the Heisman winner, Roger Staubach.
Duke Carlisle was the Texas QB, sent in to the defense lineup on Darryl Royal’s prescient hunch.
That move and that play brought Texas to the end the regular season at #1.
Texas sealed it by playing Navy in the Cotton Bowl with Staubach as Navy QB. Have came to town as overwhelming favorites, in the minds of their PR crew.
I was in the stands for that one.

@f00l '76 to '79. They were very good years.
Besides, I couldn’t let GI Bill go to waste.
@f00l I have been up that bell tower and played that carillon many years ago.
@Kidsandliz It was closed during the time I was there due to an unfortunate tragic incident.
@2many2no Yes I remember that particular incident if you are thinking of one many years ago.
@Kidsandliz
Not only the famous shooting. Way back then, with no special railing to prevent it, there were suicides.
I remember one person left her shoes up there.
They closed the upper tower for a long time over that.
I think they have barriers against that now, so they let people up again.
Way back when it was the library stacks. Mom used to study there as an undergrad. You had to be a pretty good student to get permission to go into there upstairs stacks. She managed to get a carrel.
Now the library is so big is it spread out all over the campus and the LBJ center and underground.
It’s one of the premier university or general libraries in the world or something. Top 5 or something. The alumni have been pretty generous.
Just to clear this up for me, when women have a pissin contest do they have to lift their leg?
@cranky1950 Hey, in this day and age, you can no longer ask people to bend over backwards for you.
@2many2no Unless you are on Adult Friend Finder.
@mfladd I’m still getting over the sword swallower.
@mfladd
@cranky1950 ummmmm…she’s quite talented!
@mfladd That’s what I thought when I first saw it years ago.
@cranky1950 She claims to have gotten a lot of A’s.
@mfladd Flexible little minx, isn’t she?
@2many2no maybe cum laude too.

This whole thread is amaaaaazing.

I feel like Boise State being so high on that list is gaming the numbers just a bit, given how new their program is compared to the rest.
@jqubed
Re Boise State being on the list:
(NCAA All Time FBS W/L % List)
Rounding out the top 10 are Nebraska, USC, and Penn State.
Boise State’s program is 48 years old.
The other programs are all at least 121 years old.
I wonder about the 9 schools with older programs. Have their W/L %'s improved, or declined, in the last 50 years?
Some of the smaller name schools used to be regular contenders pretty often.
The big name power schools have even larger advantages in $ and prestige now, esp with TV thrown in.
But these schools were all dominant way back when too.
Once you get onto the weeds about who belongs on a given list, at least in my family, there are a lot of remarks about schedules and conferences.
I dunno. I’m sure somebody has those stats but I’m not gonna chase them down.
@f00l Yes, but Boise State has only been division I-A/FBS since 1996, 21 years, so if those numbers are including when they were dominating division I-AA/FCS schools or even earlier as a division II school, that doesn’t feel quite the same as the long, storied histories of the rest of the schools in the top 10 and being as dominant as they have for so long. If they can stay in the top 10 for a few more decades that really would be impressive, though, to come on the scene so late and disrupt such historic rankings.
@jqubed
Yeah. I’m not a fanatic. Many people in my family would have known that tho.
It does seems they should have separate lists for Div I and Div 2.
Not the same sort of competition.
