Ouch! That hurts right in the OCD!
Now to add value: you don’t know how shitty your laptop mic or earbuds sound until you fire up voice recorder and say a few things and play them back. If you talk to people through a computer for any sort of living, a good mic and a quiet area make for a huge improvement in how you sound.
I can’t speak to how good these particular mics are, but they at least appear to be decent and are certainly inexpensive within the realm of USB condenser mics. For under $20 I’m tempted by the little one just to keep in my backpack for travel, though.
I bought the top model last time for back up purposes and I have to tell you, wasn’t worth it. There is only 1 setting on the mic that works halfway decently. The other two are tinny, hollow and well, sound bad. The gain is really bad, giving two options. Blow out your speakers or level. That’s it. Finally the mute, mutes, but doesn’t mute. Hitting the mute, in your stream and / or recording, it does it, but you can hear yourself through the mic still. It can be confusing and you have to keep looking to the mic to see if you are still muted or not. Anyways, it’s dirt cheap, but even so… Not sure I would even use it as a backup.
All of my newer computers have the same problem with (seemingly all) USB microphones. Even with the volume set to 100 in the Windows properties, and the gain cranked all the way up on the mic, I only get 3 or 4 on the mic test and no one can hear me. Unless the mic is inches from my mouth – which for these means the stand needs to be on top of the keyboard. (I have the PRO version from the last sale.)
So…almost certainly a stupid question, but do you suppose an adapter could make this work with an iPhone? I kinda wanna make vaguely ASMR adjacent leatherworking videos, but, given I don’t anticipate being good at it or even keeping at it very long I kinda don’t wanna spend money on it.
@azfang As a fellow leatherworker, I just had to reply with a “hi” . It’s nice to see someone else that shares this (sort of unusual) hobby, lol! What do you make? I’ve mostly done purses, totes, some wallets and a few belts so far. Not ready to take on holsters or knife sheaths yet.
(Sorry I can’t answer your question about the mic…I just saw this looking for reviews on the mic because it’s up on the Mehrathon today). I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on it…hope it’s worth it, lol!)
I got the Talk model and I guess it sort of works, but it comes with no instructions and the JLab website is pretty useless in terms of documenting what the red/blue/green LED’s are supposed to mean. The different sensitivity patterns don’t seem to do much either. And the mute and use of the “Aux” port are pretty much undocumented as well. Would not recommend.
Did anyone else have the wrong item shipped to them? I ordered the Talk (the more expensive one) and I got the Go in a box today. Given that a brand new Go retails for $30 on Amazon, I’m rather annoyed that Meh shipped me a refurbished one for the same amount of money.

I don’t know what to say about this deal. And if I did say anything I wonder how people everywhere could hear me.

@detailer Great minds!

@Beruud not dirt cheap enough
@Beruud @mexicantacos Ahhh, but these are refurbished!
Can you drop this.
@detailer the value of the mic directly correlates to the prominence of the drop
@hchavers So @ one foot?
@detailer Only once, so choose your moment carefully.
@detailer @macromeh you own it… better never let it go.
Got one last time and it doesn’t work
@ohbhayes must have been dropped
Got the Pro for Zoom calls. Coworkers say I sound like I’m on a podcast, so I love it.

@walarney try turning off “Exclusive Mode” on the advanced tab in microphone properties?
@Oneroundrobb They’ve changed that page around a bit. Here’s what i get with the mic about 2’ in front of me speaking at conversational volume.

They’re good about fixing mistakes, in my experience.
I have the same issue. They shipped me the wrong mic.
I also go the wrong item. Ordered the Talk but received the Go. Just messaged support, we will see.
