Jets to Berlin: Shoddy Goods 085
1I’ve been to Germany a few times, most recently on a Rhine River cruise that I’d recommend to anyone who’s able. It’s a little surprising how little remnant of the relatively recent WWII there is, and in fact how many centuries-old cathedrals and beer halls are still around, at least where I visited. How about you, ever been to Germany?

No, but my ancestors came from there, or Austria.
Nope. Not a world traveler. And I wouldn’t be cut dead on a cruise. You treat a set of cases in norovirus and you’ll never go on a cruise again. They are bug traps
I was sent to Konstanz Germany by my employer to help sort out a problem a customer was having with our software product. When my flight arrived Gerhard, a support person from the local office, picked me up in his company Mercedes. On the way he explained that in the interim, they had found a solution/workaround for the problem I was sent to investigate. So he took me to the hotel where the other local support crew was staying and I checked in.

Konstanz is a smallish town on the Bodensee. The border with Switzerland runs through the town, so they left the lights on at night and it escaped most of the bombing during WW2, leaving the original buildings largely intact. The hotel where we stayed, Hotel Barleben am See, was right on the lake.
So I got to spend most of my time there sightseeing and sampling the local food (and beer) on the company’s dime. Tough job, but somebody had to do it…
