I bought 2 minis last time,but then found I would have to take off my case every time I might use, since fixed connector is to short to use iPhone 6 in any type of case. Not usable less you do not use a phone case at all....

So, I got the micro last time to use at work. It never made it to work, instead it's living up in bed waiting for me to find/make the right size extension cord.
Then, I impulsively/drunkenly bought the Pebbles, thinking I'd take them to work. But this might still be a better option. Also, blacker, which goes nicely with my cheap plastic gov't equipment.

@sammydog01 not sure why an app would be needed. It works fine with an older iPod Touch without an app. The remote even skips Pandora songs without another app. BTW, using an older iPod Touch was a streaming audio source in a dock is a handy way to extend its useful life.
@j8048188 I got a nice Sony Lightning dock in a Fuku bag, but my only i-device is an old, 30-pin iPod Touch. I got an adapter for a few bucks on eBay, it works great. (OK, the first one crapped out after a week or so, but the second one has been great for several months.) I love the Sony (it's a great clock-radio), but if you simply must have one of these JBLs, give an adapter a try.

@Noddy93 exactly on the Mini. Our iPads are 30-pin so they don't work with it. But the Mini makes a great portable streaming music source with a Lightning connector iPhone. Great sound, easy to move around with you and decent rechargeable battery life. I have the Micro on the dresser for iPhone music there & recharging (a lot less messy than a squirrel's nest of cables) - the Micro never leaves that spot.
@Noddy93 is it trying to recharge the phone while on AAAs? get rechargeable AAAs if you're going to be moving the micro around... but why move it? Isn't the point of a dock to recharge, thus better to be on AC? Or if you want a portable speaker get a bluetooth one. some of those can even act as (bulky) usb battery packs
@donyjunk I understand the concept of having multiple speakers... and rechargeable batteries. I'd rather not have multiple speakers and, as for batteries, I'd rather that they were not externally recharged. And above it all... for gawd's sake meh... sell some AAA batteries.
@donyjunk I don't think it tries to charge the phone from AAAs, there just isn't much capacity there for the amplifier and all. And, note for anyone reading this ― I use Eneloops in mine, and they work, but the fit is very tight.

For anyone reading this, it doesn't work very well as an alarm. It has an automatic 10-minute timeout, in which it turns off if there's no audio.
