Today’s ship is the USS Zumwalt.
It is the first in its class a stealthy missile destroyer. It is being featured today because it is an odd looking ship.
She was commisoned about 15 months ago. Very unique inside and out.
@CaptAmehrican speaking of radar… a captain who shall remain nameless, on a 100 ton schooner that also shall remain nameless, in the channel on a river that shall remain nameless, that went right past a navy base that shall remain nameless, nearly ran over a submarine because “I don’t see it on radar are you sure it’s just off our port bow?”. Umm yeah - it’s a submarine designed not to show up on radar.
I’ve never seen her in person, but the pictures and concept are awesome. One bubblehead has acknowledged that for a target, she’s pretty nice. (Submariners, aka bubbleheads, insist that are two kinds of ships: subs and targets.)
I’ve seen this one before. It looks like it is a piece of origami.
@therealjrn the best part is one radar it looks the size of a 40 ft fishing boat

Does commissioned mean built 15 months ago?
And it’s a submarine also?
@naropa From Wikipedia: “Ship commissioning is the act or ceremony of placing a ship in active service”
Ship commissioning
USS Zumwalt
@naropa no it is not a sub it is a stealth ship. Commisoning is when a ship officially joins the navy. Build and testing happens first but not by much
Hey, what gives? Day 9 is a ship, not a boat?
@Cythwulf ships are a type of boats.
@CaptAmehrican Sounds like we have a classic case of “All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.”
