@pitamuffin Go to http://www.girlscouts.org/ and put in your zip code. I'm heading out to get my fix now. They're $5./box now, but $.90 of that goes to the troop. I don't buy them because they're a bargain, but because I was a Scout, and so was my daughter, and my granddaughter is a Brownie.
@OldCatLady, it is a complete shame that they only get 90 cents. The popcorn racket the Scouts force my son go through isn't any better on retention of funds locally. I really prefer things like car washes or chili / pancake feeds, etc. - where the children can make some real money that stays with them. I get what selling the product teaches the boys and girls - but damn.
@OldCatLady They are $4 a box in the land of Oz, but that's still kind of expensive. Still, I will buy a few boxes, because it's for a good cause -- to quench my thin mint craving.
@OldCatLady Thanks! That's a cool and modern feature. I guess I don't shop too often at CVS or Walgreens, as those are the spots coming up by me. Now I know when to go, though.
And if you don't want the cookies (well, I do want the cookies but can't have them) you can donate the money and the Girl Scouts will send the cookies to the troops.
I grabbed a bunch of tagalongs and samoas yesterday myself!
About the shrinking quantities .... you know those "world famous chocolate bars"? Some group was selling those and I went to buy some, asked the price "$1" I was like WOW... still a dollar... got some went home. Come to find out they are much thinner than they used to be... tricky!
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) -- A Girl Scout is selling boxes of cookies outside of a Portland pot shop Saturday, hoping to raise money for a summer trip to horse camp.
She was selling under the supervision of her aunt, who said they came up with the idea of selling outside Foster Buds Marijuana Dispensary.
The aunt said they had several customers within minutes of setting up their table.
"The Girl Scouts organization said they don't condone this, but it's not against the rules," she said.
Dollar General's store brand Samoa clone (Clover Valley or something like that) is the best off-season fix I've found, better than the Keebler ones. Have to check out the Walgreens version.
I got all excited... I thought someone was going to post about snow or Christmas... Thanks a lot @lotsofgoats and @cranky1950 I'll go off and... wait... no one is listening anyway... why bother... (Bonus points for people that get the reference :) )
@mfladd
For context purposes:
I used to like those when the boxes were filled with cookies instead of oversize trays with not enough cookies...
@duodec I hear ya, my Samoa cookie count is dwindling, But the tray does double as a vanity case.
@duodec They're still cheaper than Boy Scout popcorn.
@sammydog01 much better tasting too
There's so few cookies in the damn box now it won't be long before they sell singles. For the same price.
Some Thin Mints would be nice. I haven't seen anyone selling Girl Scout cookies in years.
@pitamuffin Keebler Grasshoppers - pretty much the same cookie. They make a Samoa knock off too. I prefer the Keebler over the Scout cookies.

It should be noted that Little Brownie Bakers (which bake most all the Girl Scout cookies) are a subsidiary of Keebler, which is owned by Kelloggs.

@OldCatLady Edit: they're selling for $4. here too. So I bought three boxes.
@MrsPavlov
It's better to be near the top of the pyramid scheme?
@MrsPavlov Just added to my shopping list -- thanks!

The Bloggess had a number of good entries on her daughter's experiences selling Girl Scout Cookies: http://thebloggess.com/?s=girl+scout+cookies

Some kids really know how to target buyers.

@mfladd Hahaha, that kid's gonna go places. Hopefully not inside just yet. But places.
This aunt, I would so offer a job to on the spot.
Walgreens has a good caramel delights alternate

When I was a girl scout 11am on a Saturday outside the gym and 7pm at the local college dorms were our best spots
