Well, he’s home now and seems pretty okay, but very hungry since he’s been without food since 8 pm last night. They took out some teeth; he has 8 new holes in his gums and I have one big hole in my bank account.
But I’m so relieved that he’s going to be feeling better; his mouth has been bad for a while.
@Kyeh@OnionSoup Lately I have noticed that while the dark patches on his head and rear quarters have remained black, the patch over his shoulders and mid-back is starting to fade to a hint of dark rusty brown. If he went full calico, he might be worth some $$. (Instead of just a lazy overweight lap warmer )
@Kyeh The kitty where you can see her blue eyes I found in the median strip of the highway on my way to work 14 years ago. She was about 6 weeks old. The one sleeping on the cat tree I picked up on campus when she had been dumped at the end of the term. She had been abused and needed several bone pieces removed from her jaw, a bunch of teeth that had been broken off at the jaw line and now infected taken care of… Took her 2 years not to flinch when I’d try to pet her coming at the top of her head from the front. Now she is fine with that and is the biggest love bug ever. She is glued to me. She is about 7 (was about a year when I got her).
@Kyeh Of course Mr. Road Kill took posession of my pillow as I was ready to go to bed last night. Because of course. It. Is. Not. My. Pillow. Let alone my bed.
Smokey: (this is about the only way that she’ll let you pet her for more than a few seconds. If you cradle her she’ll stay that way almost indefinitely.)
@chienfou Heh. As others have observed, we knew that those two were going to move in with you. I have a kitten here at the moment that looks a lot like bandit, and is about 8 months old. She has gone from being a hissy little feral to very accommodating to scritches in the past week and a half. I think she has decided that she’d rather have a gig with us than be at large. I just had her fixed last week.
@werehatrack
both are still outdoor/indoor cats. They spend the vast majority of their time outside, but will come in to eat from the feeder (or get some wet food) or visit us to be sure we aren’t doing anything TOO interesting (or haven’t received a new Amazon Box cat toy.)
@ironcheftoni I have one cat tree from the early/mid 1980’s, another from about 1990-91 and one from about 2008. I have had to replace the carpet on the oldest and re-screw in the raised sides (like your cat has a paw over and is supported by). I now have my first and only cat (the orange one) who uses the rug on the trees as a scratching pad.
I no longer have any indoor cats, but I have some outdoor ones (of the canine variety) that hang around on my patio. I don’t feed them, but I also don’t chase them away as they cut down on the local mouse population.
@Kyeh
Thanks. Kind of reminds me of some of the stuff my mother-in-law used to do with watercolors. She had an amazing ability to transmit light and reflections! I miss her (new) paintings still.
@chienfou Sort of reminds me of one you posted when he was littler where he was also very wet from jumping in to go after them I think it was? At least I think it was you that posted that.
@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@pmarin
Not that I can tell. I’ve never even seen him reaching for one. I think he just leaned over too far to look at them as a kitten and fell in. I must admit it was very remarkable how little time you spent in the water!
BTW since generally I don’t do ‘commercial’ TV I had never seen the Silverado ad. That was amazing.
@chienfou learning how to make cats yawn is the best skill I ever learnt!
Find a cat at rest.
Gently with one finger stroke it between the eyes on the top of its nose for a few seconds.
Step back and wait, usually about 5 seconds after that it will give a massive yawn.
You have to be ready with camera because usually the trick only works once and then you have to wait a few hours before doing it again. Works on most cats but not all cats.
The sleepier the cat the more likely the stroking nose between eyes trick will work. It sometimes works on a completely wide awake cat but it will be a smaller yawn.
My boy:

My brother’s princess:

My poor Toby is at the vet right now, getting dental work done.

This is my neighbor’s cat but he’s frequently in my yard so…sort of my cat?
@januarymick He is keeping an eye on you.
I’d participate but our cats are only regional.
@macromeh Oh, come on - those cats are fun to see, especially the one who looks like Adam Driver.
@Kyeh You mean Wishbone Soul Patch? (AKA McGee)
Here he is with his equally choncky sister, Molly.
@macromeh Yay!
@Kyeh @macromeh he looks like he could be brother of my cat, (and best bud) Badger. Similar shape, head shape, markings, fur length.
@Kyeh @OnionSoup Lately I have noticed that while the dark patches on his head and rear quarters have remained black, the patch over his shoulders and mid-back is starting to fade to a hint of dark rusty brown. @macromeh @OnionSoup Badger - good name. Why not put in a photo, so we can compare them?
Edit: oh, you did! Cool!
These are from today taken for this thread:
Road kill on my bed.

Not road kill. On a bed that belongs to them.

Why use a bed when you can use a cat tree?

All of you have it wrong. The floor is best.

@Kidsandliz I love cat #2’s blue eyes.
@Kyeh Cat #3 has blue eyes too.
@Kidsandliz That’s kind of unusual - are they related?
@Kyeh No. They are both mixed mutt with Lynx Siamese and Siamese have blue eyes.
@Kidsandliz Oh - you got lucky!

Blep.
Not my cat but I snapped this pic because I thought it truly captured the essence of cats…
A little late but I stole this from Buzzfeed, who stole it from Xitter
@f00l

Smokey: (this is about the only way that she’ll let you pet her for more than a few seconds. If you cradle her she’ll stay that way almost indefinitely.)

And Bandit:

@chienfou Heh. As others have observed, we knew that those two were going to move in with you. I have a kitten here at the moment that looks a lot like bandit, and is about 8 months old. Amazon Boxcat toy.)My thankless roommates

@ironcheftoni I am glad to see that my cats aren’t the only ones who destroy cat tree rugs.
@Kidsandliz That is a 35 year old tree that has seen much love, survived 5 moves and many cats over the years.
Missy is in her Meh bed that I got for her when they were offered not too long ago. Except to eat and visit the litter box, she rarely leaves it.

@rockblossom Oh, nice! Foxes do seem like the most feline of the canines.
Happy Halloween!

This was my sister-in-law’s cat. Sadly gone this Spring.

I call this position Sourdough Boule Cat
@pmarin Is that a cat or a tribble?
@macromeh @pmarin My yellow cat (further up the thread) is rolled up exactly in the same way although this cat ended up a bit “rounder” than mine did.
@Kidsandliz @macromeh At the bottom of this thread there is a square cat. I don’t know how that’s possible.
@macromeh @pmarin Yes I saw that.
Cat meets Seagull

@pmarin To dream the impossible dream …
Your shipment of cat has arrived.

It doesn’t appear to be functional.
Bandit… contemplating catfishing today!

@chienfou That looks like a Japanese painting.
@Kyeh
Thanks. Kind of reminds me of some of the stuff my mother-in-law used to do with watercolors. She had an amazing ability to transmit light and reflections! I miss her (new) paintings still.

@Kidsandliz
Yep. It was in the “never thought my wife would have another cat” thread.
@chienfou she got seduced.
Please post that photo again here of him before he learned that jumping in the water is not the best way to catch fish.
@Kidsandliz

Here is the link to that thread as well
@chienfou @Kidsandliz I love that the expression is “well, that was interesting,” not “OMG Water I’m melting”
@chienfou @Kidsandliz Reminds me of this great ad from a year or two back. Probably CGI cat, but still, a great concept and fun.
@chienfou @pmarin You can tell by his ears he is still really focused on the fish in the water, despite being wet.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @pmarin Has he ever caught one?
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @pmarin
Not that I can tell. I’ve never even seen him reaching for one. I think he just leaned over too far to look at them as a kitten and fell in. I must admit it was very remarkable how little time you spent in the water!

Are we comfy?
@robson Certainly are floofy!
Pepper, my Halloween cat

Last but not least… Pumpkin
@OnionSoup
Yes! That’s a lot of teeth.

Many a mouse has said that as final words!
@ndimitru
Congrats… Pic looks great!
Black hole? Cat? Or both?
(Not mine)
@f00l Reminded me of this one.
Catroaches
@f00l Should have posted that one on Halloween!
