I had a roommate that would slam the spoon against the rim of the pot every 3-5 seconds the whole time they were cooking, and wouldn’t believe that they were doing it until someone recorded it.
@yakkoTDI Thank you!
I have actually been thinking about hinge de-squeakers in the back of my mind. Trying to decide which path is best (without putting any effort into actually researching it yet…). This looks like a good candidate.
Only a hundred dollars per gallon…
(I’ll probably stick to just a couple ounces.)
@xobzoo I did no research and only a little bit of testing before deciding on Finish Line. Of course the thousands of miles of bicycling over many years could be considered testing.
If you decide to use this it will be wet initially but after about 24 hours it will be dry.
Besides the bicycle use I also use it on the door locks to the house, hinges on the VWs, locks on the VWs and the lock on my condo’s mailbox that is fully exposed to the weather.
A lot of microwaves have some way to disable the dumb beeping, sometimes not even mentioned in the manual. On mine you have to hold down the “1” key for a few seconds.
@brennyn I just recently discovered instructions to silence my microwave - something I’ve been wanting for a long time. It’s a whole new world!
It is a little annoying that the “just set a timer without cooking” function is also silent now, but there are other timers to use.
No issues here. The kitchen is way too far from the bedroom for normal noises to carry that far. I can run the food processor at 3AM and it’s not audible in the bedroom.
The stove vent fan is under our bedroom. Plus the A/C / furnace distributes the delicious smells all through the house. So the very faint rush from the fan or the savory smell of cooking meat usually wakes her up.
My dog whining, 'cause she wants some.
@phendrick Yep & the Cat too!
Dropping a spoon creates the loudest sound known to man if it happens on a tile floor at 1:00 a.m.
The Cat wanting a snack Meowing Loudly!
The overly loud plastic wrappers crinkling lead to the inevitable, “whatcha got?”.
None. I live alone!
I’m a food ninja. No one hears me or sees me, only the missing cake gives me away.
@hchavers I thought you were going to say the blender gives you away… Ninja
My Homer Simpson eating cake noises.
Me shouting “damn that’s some good corn” a little too loud.

The screams of my victims.
@OnionSoup You don’t have a soundproof abattoir?
How gauche!
The squeaky hinges on the pantry door where [some of] the good things are kept.
@xobzoo I use this on hinges and locks.

@brennyn My stove has a “sabbath” mode. It doesn’t prevent you from using it, it just turns off the display, and mutes any beeps.
So maybe “hypocrite mode” would be more accurate.
@blaineg Imagine how annoying it would be to forget to turn on sabbath mode the day before.
@brennyn @blaineg That’s really funny! I’d never heard of “sabbath mode” before.
@blaineg @brennyn @Kyeh My range has a Sabbath mode. I had never heard of it either. Had to look that one up!
@blaineg @brennyn @Kyeh Even Elevators have Sabbath mode in Israel! You get on you Can’t put any button as it will stop at each floor!

Cooking a full meal from scratch is not a quiet thing.
@edguyver14
Now THAT’S some serious snacking!
The music I’m listening to while I drink my cup of coffee
The freezer fan when I open the door
Rustling bag of whatever I’m grabbing (or accidentally drop).
All the crunchies!
Gotta have chips.
I’m like a panda.
Eats. Shoots. And leaves.
“Leave no witnesses”
