iPhone SE is tiny!
2So... As you may have heard my iPhone 6+ (big phone) died... and I'm temporarily using an iPhone SE until the iPhone 7 comes out... Well this thing is TINY TINY size... I can't believe this was the "big" phone at one point... I may have ruined myself to need to use the big phones...
Size comparison... iPhone 5S is the same externally as an iPhone SE

Does it have better battery life?
@Pantheist I'll let you know, Tomorrow will be the 1st day with it all day.
@sohmageek Thanks!
@sohmageek
Is the SE some 6/6s guts in an Iphone 5/5s size housing?
We have a 5c in use that's still doing great, how much better is the SE than a 5, 5c, or 5s?
@f00l its the 6s guts but no 3D Touch in a 5s body same as a 5s/5/5c but the metal 5/5s
@sohmageek
WTF is 3d touch? Too lazy to google. And i have a 6s+ (work-family-related and media player) and don't know what 3d touch is and am too lazy to figure it out at this exact moment.
As you can tell, i didnt read the manual, or the blogs, or the promos, or the reviews, or the newsblips, or the tweets.
Oh yeah, i guess that's that light-press, deep-press thang. I guess i did absorb some info, accidentally.
Perhaps i should try to be less mentally inanimate. So what's it good for?
@f00l you can do basic tasks from some apps without opening the apps. Similar to how when a text pops up at the top of the screen you can swipe it down and quick reply is there without leaving the app you're currently in to go to messages...
@Pantheist battery after day 1 is more like an iPhone 5... I miss my large battery in the 6+... maybe I need to buy another battery... or speaker dock... :)
@sohmageek Morningsave has those power mat chargers. We love ours.
@sohmageek Mom has an iPhone 5c; she said the battery seemed kinda weak. I got her a new phone case with a built-in battery for Mother's Day
@sohmageek
The things i would learn about my iphone if i ever used it as much more than an audiobook and streaming player....
@f00l
The same thing is true really of most people on this planet and their use of electronics.
@sohmageek oh well :/ i was thinking smaller screen might mean better battery lIfe. I'm more of a several year old samsung kinda guy really anyway
@FroodyFrog
I'm happy for now that most users dont bitch/pimp their toys. Imagine the temp chaos. A few at a time bricking your tools, please, form a queue.
Me: just dont have time to fuck w apple products. I beat hell out of my android devices, i normally approach the windoze registry w a machete (machine always boots, and the violence gives me pleasure.)
In some states of clarity, i can handle screen, a linux install, a linux command line, for small tasks.
Have coded in fortran, basic, 360 assembler (yeah punch cards, even paper tape), pascal, etc, some other languages i forgot, but the coding never stuck and i forgot it all. Pretty much all coding was "pre-ui".
Not an expert or even "advanced" in anything. Can survive, and i know enuf to run the machine, not the other way round. Machine had better like it when i mess with it.
But iphones? Very pretty. Nice ui, if you dont ask too much of it. I'm sure rooted ones can fly. Excellent executive toy, superb business/personal comm device. Have one in part so family members can call me w "how do I?" questions, even tho i obviously dont know. Have one in part so my android devices aren't busy doing media.
I love the iphone for the things i do with it, it's v nice. Just my silly, uninformed personal take. No controvery, ios lovers, pls. This is not a diss. Mine is a sweet device i dont know well.
@f00l
Had a blast reading that.
Thank you.
@FroodyFrog
I can tell i envy your knowledge, by your posts. What is background?
Hah! Bet you never used paper tape!
Have you never waited for the asshole City of New York (or elsewhere) operator to get to your stack of cards and effing run them so you could get the dot matrix printout and start debugging?
In my day, barefoot in the snow, with cut feet, uphill both ways, in 120F degree Death Valley midday sun, during a hurricane, dodging the rattlers and hipsters.
You know how the not-young like to bitch and brag.
@f00l
Can't say that I've had.
I've heard how hipsters are dangerous. Good thing they aren't found in my part of the country.
@FroodyFrog
That's interesting. I thought hipsters had infiltrated to the edges of the continent faster than killer bees.
@f00l
Oh, I'm not saying they aren't near me, it's just that I don't have to deal with them since they aren't in my general vicinity.
@f00l
I was just thinking about how technology over time has advance.
So, in 2014 someone ported Windows 95 to Android Wear, and last year, someone ported Windows XP.
To top both of those though, someone ported Windows 7 to the LG G Watch.
Of course, boot time was 3 hours, but still.
@FroodyFrog
Did not know about those ports. Brave souls.
A few years back i drove past a gigantific car dealership on 635 in N Dallas. It's monster screen was doing BSOD all day.
@f00l
Although if I were to have an error message come up (not necessarily BSOD), I'd prefer something of this nature:
@FroodyFrog I had Windows 95 on my iPhone 3G (or was it the 4... Pretty sure it was the 3G) back in the day.
@FroodyFrog
@FroodyFrog
I still have 2 win2k machines in storage. I need to boot them up and get the media and docs off them, secure format or hammer the drives, and goodwill them. For some reason i keep procrastinating.
@f00l
How long have they been in storage?
@FroodyFrog
Storage of the win 2k machines? Close to a decade. Perhaps more. Don't remember.
The first pc i owned, as opposed to just fucking with, was a radio shack trash 80. 2 floppy drives!
At work at that time had an IBM PC, one of the early ones. It played the first part of "Daisy" after boot.
@f00l
Please read this.
Meanwhile, I can't explain it fully, but there's something about the history of the PC (and its predecessors) which fascinates me.
I wouldn't personally start buying them though, but that's only due to space constraints.
Still, I enjoy hearing/reading about the experience people have had with them.
@FroodyFrog
I call it a Trash 80 quite fondly. I lived much of my youth thinking Radio Shack was the most fun store ever (along with record stores, book stores, and saddle/tack stores).
I met some members of the Tandy family - thru my parents -'at one point.
I was so sad when RS corporate took the big bankruptcy leap.
@Pavlov
Want.
Ugh... size queens.
@JerseyFrank
Only here and there. Pickups. Phones. One or two other things.
Is that a lunch tray in your pocket or are you just happy?
Got it on Thursday as a work phone--love it. Decent battery life. I own a 5x and the SE... I find myself feeling comfortable with the SE.... Oddly, more relaxed. Just a happier brick to wield. That just goes for feeling/vibes. For my daily carry, the 5x wins. None of this made sense; however, the takeaway would be that the SE has a strange other-worldy allure.
@connorbush grab ahold of a 6/6s with no case and feel the lovely fondleness those smooth edges! noone really competes with apples feel...
I love my 6+. It's amazing how many people see it, say that it's big, see it in use, want one. Big enough to watch a movie on, small enough to still fit in my pocket.
@cinoclav
Just like a Samsung Note.
Ok, i do like the 6+/6s+.
I have a regular 6s and I hate how big it is. maybe the SE is in my future too.
@RedHot I think my next one (unless the features are amazing...) will be the regular sized... not the mini not the maxi (Plus in apple terms)
@sohmageek
The bigger the much easier to drop and break, i discovered to my cost. Even if it's in an Otterbox w impact glass screen protector. I dropped one 2 feet. Hit on the edge of the case. Glass unharmed. LCD behind the glass busted. $200.
Easier to get a secure grip on a smaller one. But then, i have small hands, unlike our Pres candidate.
@f00l its potential. Don't count Bernie out yet. And I didn't realize Hillary had big hands...
@sohmageek
Mistyped. Should have said
"A Presidential candidate."
Didn't he do a Show And Tell on his hands?
Hey, Donald, I concede. Your hands are bigger than mine.
On a slightly different note: Someone was going to sell me very cheap a locked (to AT&T) iphone 5. I can then use net10 or walmart's cards after buying a card. Is this phone too old to make this deal worth anything? I am using a 2010 cheapie phone and this would be an upgrade, but since my 2010 is still working not sure it is a good use of money, especially if it is awfully close to being orphaned.
@Kidsandliz
Iphone 5 is quite nice. Just small compared to the current fashion.
@Kidsandliz they go for around $130 used on ebay... they are currently still receiving operating system updates and security updates from apple... and it should receive the next version (iOS 10) but it hasn't been officially announced to be compatible yet. They are quite a bit slower than the current generation, but they still work.
this page shows what ios devices have been left to the wayside: http://iossupportmatrix.com/
Your friend might be able to get it unlocked show them this page: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/
@thismyusername They were going to sell it to me for $50. I hope they don't look it up on ebay LOL. No way I can afford $130. Thanks.
@f00l It is way bigger than a $10 flip phone any way you slide and dice it.
@Kidsandliz yea $50 is a good deal even if apple drops it at 11
@Kidsandliz
Grab this at $50 if it's in decent shape. Make sure the esn or imei is not blacklisted (call carrier to check.)
That's a great price.
