I set up 7 cameras to spy on my dogs/house while on vacation for 10 days… That way my friend that was gonna check on my dogs was more on standby in case something went wrong rather than having to go to the house daily.
Rambling serious answer that no one will probably read in 3, 2,…
Many years ago I worked on a project for a remote sensing platform. The unit was modular and designed to run entirely off of environmental power. Included in almost all of the packages was a camera and a long haul wifi antenna. During this project I went from knowing nothing about IP video to knowing way, way more than I ever cared to know. One of the goals was to build it as cheap as possible due to an expectation that once deployed we would never see them again. Disposable, almost.
Fast forward a few years, I found myself in a situation where I was traveling ~60% of the year, gone at times for months on end. I lived alone and so setting up a bunch of cameras helped give me peace of mind.
These days I don’t really have much use for my weirdo personal surveillance state, but I’m a nerd and it’s fun.
@CaptAmehrican Wait. What? Leakfrogs aren’t made any more? I have extras, and have been giving them away, now and then. No more. I just replaced the batteries in all of mine (I use four), and now I’m going to go back and pet each and every one, and tell them I love them.
@Shrdlu if you are giving them away to friends. Hi friend!!! Uhm not for certain but they seem to be not made anymore you can only seem to get them at insane multiples of their original price.
We use these cams only while on vacation.
Checking on the dogs, seeing if everything in view is OK and the house hasn’t burned down & to maybe yell at a burglar if we see one.
ps… I got my 2 leakfrogs from a fuko. They are hard at work in the basement.
I want to get one to watch my rabbit but we can’t afford to buy anything atm just because of my dad recently getting laid off… He’s starting a new job in a week though, so hopefully meh will have another deal later!

Also I can watch my cat from work.
Cats who don’t feel good, but you don’t want to let them know you’re checking on them every five minutes.

@CaptAmehrican
Yeah they’re at $99 for 2 of them. I almost choked.
Have have a friend who uses a few up cams so that he can watch Margeaux, his shelter kitty, from work.
We have a horse and livestock barn and they are great to be able to see what’s going on out there from the house.
The 2 way talk feature is good too for that reason, its like a wifi intercom
@thelegendaryjt3 Your horses talk back?
@JerseyFrank
I guess Mr Ed and his offspring retired there.

Weather tempters???
If you can’t find the frogs, go for his cute little buddies… They’re only $14.95.

@cinoclav
Good, you got the image to load. I couldn’t.
@cinoclav “Perfect to put near toilets and under bathroom sinks in how to see places.”
Usually with your eyes.
How well do these work for keeping track of my kids?
The secret life of pets!

Because it’s better to have a camera and not need one, than to need a camera and not have one.
@tallrob Which is how I justified my sword.
