I saw one of these at a tech conference several years back. What’s cool is that it can work the other way: allows you to model a given terrain. Then it can model fire and weather behaviors, for instance, in 3D.
@fibrs86 oh yeah, if you left your hands near the sand for a few seconds, the system would incorporate it into the topography. That might be better or worse at a high update rate.
Had one of these at an old museum I worked at, we used to have to regularly comb through it with a litter scoop to find hidden (lost) treasures. most exciting find was a quarter and a small toy car.
Oooo, I’d love to play in that sandbox!
I love this, but now that someone pointed out the mouse cursor in the middle, it’ll haunt me forever. You’re welcome.
@RiotDemon Kind of like finding a little piece of cat poop in your real sandbox. You’re welcome.

I wonder if there is a way to increase the refresh rate.
@dijit27 There’s another thread underway with a riveting discussion about various PC components. Maybe we can look there for ideas…
The ‘Science Center’ in the mall back home has one of these. My daughter and spent a decent amount of time digging seas and building mountains.
The update rate was fairly slow, but it looked like it was running on a fairly old computer. It appeared to use two cameras like the kinect.
