I'm usually only used to pizza being delivered at such hours ...
10'tis the season for packages being delivered well into the evening, I suppose. I was surprised to see a package at my door this morning, thinking "that was early", but checking the tracking info, it was delivered last night at 11pm!
I had a 9pm delivery once (Woot sent a surprise BOC via 2-day right before Christmas), but this one raises the bar.

I've had packages get scanned as "delivered" after the driver got back to the depot - I knew for a fact it had come earlier than that since I had gotten it prior. USPS seems to do this.
My UPS driver, during peak season, tends to be working late... 8:30-9PM as well here.
@Collin1000 Up until last year, USPS didn't update in "real time"; their old system didn't upload until the postman/postwoman got back. In my case, it was FedEx doing the late night delivery; I wasn't home until 9pm last night, and no package, so I know it wasn't a case of "I forgot to scan it."
@Collin1000 Migawd I wish I could get a UPS driver who delivered after around 2. Tomorrow I start week 3 of my Sonos system being on the truck for delivery. That's with expedited shipping.
@editorkid Why don't you call FEDEX and tell them you want to pick it up at their office? Or is it too unweildy for that?
@moondrake I don't have a car and the UPS depot is remote enough that getting there after work is unlikely anyway. That said, they've been calling me every day or two to work out a schedule. The problem is that BH Photo decided not just to require a signature but require my signature. It looks like within a day or two we'll compromise on the new UPS Access Point on the corner of my block.
The local fly-by-night shipper that amazon uses for some prime stuff has delivered stuff to my house at 10:30 before. As a bonus the package smells like cigarette smoke, and it is delivered by a nondescript 20 year old Chevy.
@ram434 As someone who drives an almost 20-year old Chevy, it's not cigarettes! :P
@ram434 Just think, in 4 more years you can get historic plates. You will be in good company with the Model T, my 1990 grand caravan which was not designed to last that long and is the only car I have, and my dad's (now my sister's) '40 Packard (that he bought when it was 13 years old).
@Kidsandliz I don't think the 20-year Chevy in context is @ram434's. Here in California, historic plates are reserved for actual historic vehicles. Heck, 38 year old vehicles still require biannual emission testing.
@narfcake oops you are right. I was up in the middle of the night - clearly brain not working. It is @lisaviolet's fault. In MS though at 25 years you get historic plates. Still need an inspection (real basic in this state - kick the tires, turn the various lights on) but don't have to pay for plates ever again.
@Kidsandliz Virginia does that too, but there are driving restrictions. No daily driving, you can drive to car shows.
It's the mailman delivering to me on Sunday afternoon that surprises me.
@pooflady Amazon delivery?
On a different note, FedEx is early here tonight with a package - it's only 8:30pm!
@narfcake Yes.
@pooflady I like the Sunday mail delivery person WAY more than the weekday delivery person. Sunday dude actually delivers--rest of the week it's a coin toss. And I think he's using a cheater coin.
Our post office is getting slammed with packages. Like all the Surepost and Smartpost crap, they are literally piling the packages up, just writing slips saying come on down, and you hope for the best. living in a "rural" community, our mailpeeps use their own vehicles, so unless someone is driving their non-Penske truck to work, there is just no room whatsoever to get our packages. Kind of sucks actually. Saw our mailman yesterday and he was super apologetic and is just hoping that Christmas comes early this year.
(oh and to further relate - UPS MyChoice tells you the time range they are going to deliver the package in and I usually get one the day before saying like 2-6 and then the morning of they send me a new one telling me they apologize but the package will now be delivered between 12 and 4. Of course it comes at 6, but hey, optimism, right?)
My dog would not approve. And if the delivery woke up the baby.... my wife would put on her angry eyes.
@jimmyd103 They didn't ring the doorbell or knock or anything, so my doggie didn't know. She'll be excited by the contents, though - shirts from TT.
A few weeks ago I said good night to my friend at 1am, and got up at 6am to let the dog out and a package had arrived in that window of time. I was pretty stunned. My new tablet is riding around on a Fedex truck right now. It was supposed to be delivered on Saturday but was not, I kept hoping the driver would turn up late Saturday or on Sunday but no luck. Hope it gets delivered today, I am going on a road trip on Thursday and it would make the ride more pleasant.
@moondrake Unless you're the one driving...
@Cinoclav My friend usually does the driving, I keep him entertained and plied with sodas and snacks. This trip is going to be unusually relaxed. We're driving to a convention about 500 miles away but it doesn't open till Friday. We're going in a day early because I have to have my Artist's Alley table open for business at 9am on Friday. We have all day to get there instead of pressing to get there as fast as possible. We'll have time to sit down and eat meals and stop at the outlet shops which should be fun right before Christmas.
