I’m trying to figure out today’s final image, and I admit I just can’t seem to identify the components involved. Can someone explain what it is for me?
I always find it ironic when a company that is eco-friendly or wants to at least appear to be… will level all of the wildlife and landscape to build their office/retail stores, etc. Cabella Outdoors built a location here. They tore down a treed landscape to build an “outdoor store” surrounded by parking lots and other retail stores. Sad.
@capguncowboy from a practical standpoint there’s no way to build such a place without knocking down a bunch trees and replanting afterward. The time cost of trying to work around the existing nature would bloat the project costs through the roof.
As for a retail store, parking lots and such are the name of the game.
@jbartus there is a way to build something without destroying nature–redevelop land that has already destroyed nature. That way, you can plant more trees where none existed instead of tearing down trees and replacing with yet another building.
@capguncowboy The state, tribe or government entity which regulates the land often requires that the company purchase ‘mitigating’ wetlands etc. to make up for destroying the real thing. No guarantee how long this document will be available.
@phatmass redeveloping land also comes with associated costs and can potentially cost a lot more due to unforseen issues buried by previous developers and such.
@jbartus I believe that was @capguncowboy’s point- why spend a few extra bucks doing the right thing when you can just destroy nature instead. Who likes trees and deer and bunnies anyway?
