@PooltoyWolf yeah… earbuds won’t go into my ears unless I remove the hearing aids, so they are not all that useful to me. Even without the hearing aids, I find over ear headphones to be a better thing.
@somf69
Sony have typically been my favorites, though I only have tried Bose’s original ones, and the battery, lack of AptX, and fit for my ears have been pretty awful. They don’t exactly fall out, but they don’t feel like they’re staying in no matter which pieces I try. Oh well, I’ll use them until they die and get something better
Whelp, I already have Airpod Pros that I got with points from my credit card and Bose SoundSports that I got with points from Amazon and a bunch of cheapo wireless earbuds from Five Below, so I guess I should add these Ankers to my collection. The Airpods have been fabulous for conference calls at work. The Bose batteries suck, so they are not very useful even if the sound is good.
For practicality, probably the Sony Linkbud S model, since they’re a lighter weight (and better acoustically tuned) version of the XM4 series. Slightly less connection strength, but otherwise, mostly just positives.
But the audiophile in me would pick something more like these (Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk), which are a collab by Crinacle, the very silly, and very dedicated audio enthusiast, whose work documents more objective and consistent data on headphones and earbuds than virtually any other current resource of any note. Not going to be for everybody, or even most folks. But they are absolutely astounding for those who do care to listen to music like that.
@arosiriak Thanks for doing the research for me, I was wavering between WF-1000XM4 or discounted WF-1000XM3 and the LinkBuds S sound like the middle ground I was looking for.
Either Sennheiser Momentum 3 true wireless or Master & Dynamic MW07 PLUS true wireless. Those two are definitely audiophile-esque on a budget. But there are limits to the quality of sound when you go wireless.
@romellex in a few years the price of hearing aids should come down to a level where decent ones should come in around $300. All the so called “hearing aids” advertised on TV now for about $300 are garbage and you have to wonder why the FTC and the FDA allow them to keep putting out false advertisements.
@bocoroth I already have two pair of these. I wish I could get more MDR-V600 headphones as the ear cups were just a little wider for a tad more comfort.
Aeropex Aftershocks— I have a one-sided sensorineural hearing loss (read those medication side effects warnings on those Rx sheets, fam), and these are WONDERFUL. It’s the closest I’ve come to the sense of hearing from both sides of my head.
@onae So when you watch video with bluetooth headphones, the video is delayed to account for the inherent and difficult to avoid delay in the BT headphones. However games can’t be delayed the same way without affecting gameplay, particularly on online play. So if I want to play clash of clans with headphones in, I either have to use wired (which are increasingly more difficult to use on newer phones) or deal with an annoying delay. If you’re interested, a quick web search will explain it with way more technical prowess than I can.
I would get 1 pair of Ankers and spend the rest on a pair of Grado SR225X. Let’s face, all pods suck compared to a decent pair of wired phones. The Grados offer the best value for the money.
Airpod pros have a killer feature imho. As a person with tinnitus and mild hearing loss from decades of poor choices (loud concerts, car stereo shenanigans), Airpod Pros have conversation boost that basically makes them hearing aids. It’s changed my life.
I’d use the money for something else, or if I had to buy another set of earbuds, I’d get these Anker ones and pocket the rest. I’ve got AirPod Pros, and if they break or the battery stops working well, can get a new pair for less than retail because of who I married. Even if I didn’t, I still think they’re worth the price. I know not everyone loves spatial audio, but it’s a feature I really like, along with the automatic connection switching between my devices, and the sound is really very good.
The bestest buds.

These are pretty nifty.
Over-ear headphones.

$2 earbuds and pocket the change.
Bose, Sennheiser or Sony , yeah I got some extra cash

The kind you can take back for a cash refund.
Either the least I could on the earbuds (or not buy them at all) and spend the rest of the $300 on something I actually care about.
@tweezak Is that a Ceti Eel in your ear, or are you just happy it isn’t?
@tweezak And they’re free!

and two pairs of Ankers.
@er1c You will need to modify your iPhone.
@hchavers or buy a bulk lot of bluetooth dongles

None. I’d invest the money so I’d have enough for hearing aids when that time comes. Although without the ear buds it might be later.

Low latency bluetooth gaming headphones
@zinimusprime Bluetooth and low-latency are incompatible
What games do you play that would benefit from a millisecond difference in sound? Genuinely curious.

If you’re answer isn’t along the lines of sennhessier, Audio-technica, or Shure, you don’t deserve $300 ear buds
