I remember a few of you (don’t remember who) said that mouthwash doesnt do anuthing. I just saw ADA accepted on the front of my listerine, odoesnt than mean it does something good?
Listerine is an antiseptic, tho. Things like Scope aren’t. So sez my DDS, guess he is paid off by the Listerine lobby. Cured my gum issues without surgery, so it has that going for it.

Debbie Downer here…
My long time friend, who sometimes calls himself Half Tongue, has been cancer free for three years now. As a non-smoking, non-many-other-things person, his only major risk factor for oral cancer was that he used mouthwash with alcohol in it every day for more than 3 decades.
He officiated at my wedding with a complete tongue. Half a tongue leads to a significant speech impediment, so no more weddings, and few other speaking engagements for him.
If I recall correctly, the ADA does not endorse mouthwash with alcohol in it.
@hamjudo I looked that up- the correlation was for people that used mouthwash three or more times a day. Sometimes you just lose the cancer lottery. And the ADAs online list of endorsed mouthwashes includes Listerine with alcohol.
My dentist wants me to use ACT a couple of times a day, says it will help rebuild the enamel on my teeth and reduce my temperature sensitivity. Problem is the stuff tastes like feet and makes me incredibly thirsty, and it’s best if you don’t drink anything for a while to let it work. So i rarely make myself use it. My dentist was really surprised about the thirstiness, says no one’s told him that before, but I have weird body chemistry.
I use Listerine for topical disinfection for me and the dogs when I don’t have alcohol handy (I’m allergic to peroxide).
My dental hygienist specifically said to avoid Scope and Listerine for my gingevitis, said that alcohol would dry my gums out. She suggested Crest Pro Health Advanced
Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy / Grab my glasses, out the door, I’m gonna hit this city / before I leave - brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack / 'Cause when I leave for the night I ain’t coming back.

Apparently it does when you drink it.

@hamjudo holy Moses! That’s quite a story. Poor fella…

@sammydog01 He was probably a multiple time of day user. He was friend in college, but never a roommate or housemate. I owned a car and he didn’t.
I do recall him using mouthwash before getting in the car a few times.

@moondrake So, how do you know what feet taste like? Inquiring minds and all that…
@lisaviolet Taste is largely based on smell. If you know what feet smell like, you pretty much know what they taste like.
@moondrake can confirm
@moondrake ACT just tastes like bad fake mints to me, feet would be a welcome venture…

My normal mouth wash is usually a nice Cabernet, or Merlot, but I’ve been known to switch over to Maker’s Mark, upon occasion.
I use the mint listerine and it’s made my dental visits far more tolerable, and a lot less blood-transfusiony.
It helps when you’re about to play tonsil hockey.

@brhfl that’s because you didn’t hit bold…
