I think I've figured it all out...
2Something I've been wondering... near the beginning of the 2nd Ghostbusters movie, Egon Spengler is running an experiment where he's got a married couple in a test chamber thinking they're there for marriage counseling while his lab minions are gradually turning up the heat and keeping them waiting.
We all know that Meh is more than a deals site. It's an experiment. Maybe the streak of the site deal of the day selling out and the resultant grumbling on the forums were really just happenstance. Or maybe... it was a set up. Maybe we're the angry couple, thinking the deal is counseling, but Meh putting up items that sold out quickly and capping it off with the fukubukuro snafu are a way of making us wait longer and longer while turning up the heat.
I'm onto you, Meh...

Pavlov's experiment
Have strings of deals gradually reducing in quality with some bonus "grab bags" tossed in. You train the consumers when the "deal bell" is rung, they want to buy that item, no matter what it is.
Testing the experiment would be, throwing in a mediocre deal but shorting it and seeing how people react.
Results, they all go ape shit all over the forums.
Well done meh....well done.
