I paid for membership for the month and canceled so i wouldn't forget
3And it canceled my free shipping INSTANTLY, not at the end of the month? So I paid for a membership for a month, but it instantly removes access to the free shipping you already paid for if you don’t want it to auto-renew? Absolutely ridiculous, I have been a Meh customer from the beginning and a woot customer before that… i think this is the end of my patronage lol

I was a member for years and only occasionally bought products, sub services are so predatory, and this is actually the worst I’ve experienced when it comes to just outright stealing back service you already paid for in order to force people into a situation where they might accidentally renew if they didn’t want to
Contact customer service.
I did, and canceled my order.
Not to mention, if you decide to become a member again now… the rates have doubled, I think, over the last 2-3 years.
@artec from our membership agreement:
@troy yeah, its a bad anti-consumer policy that they hide in the membership agreement and don’t talk about on the cancelation page INTENTIONALLY.
@troy Yeah but seriously I hate this the most. B/c there’s that weird, “but if you don’t use it we won’t charge you!” weirdness too that makes you feel like you should keep it going. Except that you do get charged… and then maybe get it back after the month’s over and you didn’t buy anything? But any way you look at it, you would’ve saved money by cancelling and restarting the next time you buy something rather than letting it ride.
I’ve always signed up for a month and cancelled a full day early knowing full well whatever I actually want will appear the one day I’m not sure if I had to pay extra for a new month or should’ve been the last day of the month I just cancelled. (B/c it seems like I keep getting the next month’s charge a day earlier than I’d expect, to be clear.)
That’s a pretty high quality incoherent ramble. I’m going to leave it without editing.
Plus the “one-click cancel” takes like three clicks. Take that, meh defenders!!!
Give the VMPs more free socks, btw.
@stinks @troy Nobody follows the golden num-clicks rule. People actually proposed it as legislation, aka same clicks for join/cancel, but it hasn’t happened and I doubt waiting will do any good …

From the cancelation page here: http://meh.com/membership/cancel

@dave I already canceled my order and have been refunded, you’re welcome to continue to defend a weird and shitty system though
@artec Thanks!
@dave Guess @artec thought that he could just take a …
after cancelling!
@artec @dave IDK, seems like a pretty fair system to me, especially if you get better than a partial refund.
The REALLY SHITTY ones are the ones where you can go online and barely sneeze and are immediately subscribed, but to unsubcribe you have to call a number, talk to a very stubborn and unsympathetic person, and practically have to threaten legal action to get released. And that’s even if you go in person to the business location that they still gve you a number to call. And then afterward find your contract is still active and you have been charged again. (Want company names?)
@dave @phendrick no, I’m already boycotting those losers.
@artec oh, thought you were gone. I meant to anyone in general.

And for me personally, Meh and Mercatalyst have the best customer service I’ve ever encountered in this lifetime.
/giphy I’m a fan
@dave @phendrick
Can I say one? Huh? Huh?
I think the gif bot did that one for the OP.
@therealjrn I have no experience with them and am very unlikely to.
I avoid streaming services. The term reminds me of swimming in riptide currents.
@phendrick @therealjrn
If you ever subscribe to Sirius - or a few other streaming services -
That experience will also remind you of swimming in riptide currents.

@mediocrebot You got the idea. About that amount of hair, but older, less muscle, more struggle.
There is a semblance though for when I get my cable or insurance bills.
@phendrick @therealjrn if you buy a car, the car company sells your info to them for a “free trial.” Then they harass you like a crazy ex… unmarked mail that looks handwritten, etc. It’s insane.
@dave @phendrick @therealjrn ok I have one for you! I have Spectrum cable internet but no cable TV and my dad came to visit for a week and wanted to watch his evening shows, he also has Spectrum so he tried to sign in on the Spectrum app planning on using his username/password…
and Spectrum without any indication/option to decline it automatically just signed me up for their full internet streaming package at 79.99 and connected. I got an email saying my bundle had changed so I signed in, it doesn’t let you cancel online you have to call. I called Spectrum, they had to promote me up to 3 different people (all who tried to sell me add on packages) before they finally canceled it and gave me a refund. It took an hour on the phone.
@artec @dave @phendrick @therealjrn Last time I talked to Sirius XM to get my yearly discount they asked if I would like to keep it and not have to call again. Once in a while I get an email saying it’s a dollar more but still reasonable.

/giphy they’re learning
@mediocrebot @phendrick Yeah, it only gets harder.

@mediocrebot whoops! I’ll pivot to saying that is his debt.
@artec @dave @phendrick
I would hope so Sammy! I enjoy having the Sirius XM but we also have a local college radio station that I like. Wish me luck in my next phone call!
@artec @dave @phendrick @therealjrn My Dad has Spectrum. The bill had crept up to $95 a month. Frontier offered $36. I went to Spectrum store and got the spectrum bill knocked down to $45. A rare win for me.
@mediocrebot one more time …

@artec @dave @phendrick @therealjrn I got amazon primed 3 times against my will because I made the mistake of getting their cheap fire tablets to watch YouTube crap while I was on the exercycle during c19. The 3rd time was insanely hard to cancel. As a result, for the first time in my life, I cancelled my crefit card with Amazon so that I couldn’t get primed again.
@mediocrebot Checks out. Very well, bot.
@mediocrebot @therealjrn You know me too well!
@mediocrebot Arf. I’ll have to fix that in post.
@mediocrebot More like this, please …
@mediocrebot Come to think of it, of course the goat would push it the wrong way.
This is NOT about MEH, but so many want to sign you up for Auto-Renewal. You have to manually go in & uncheck that box, Plus remove you payment details so they don’t forget you turned off auto renew & charge you anyway. Once they get your money , you can kiss it goodbye!
@mycya4me
You might try using privacy.com
I think it allows you to setup virtual credit or debit cards for services you don’t trust that much.
Then you can suspend or kill the specific card, set spending limits, etc.
And the setup is service by service for each card. Ie one service gets one card.
So Sirius gets one card number and the electric co gets another
Which means you can kill the Sirius payment without messing with any other payments going thru the same card or account.
@f00l I know that a few of the Credit card companies. will give You a virtual 1 use on #.
When you have been a Computer Hardware tech for over 20 years, & some of your friends are in InfoSecurty (aka InfoSEC) & I read their newsletters You do become paranoid. That is another reason I pretty much an Apple hardware person at Home. All the security breaches & Hacks on WinDOZE, Android ect. & less on Apple & even less on Linux/ Unix.
@f00l @mycya4me I call that healthy paranoia.
@artec Yeah, sorry you were (I haven’t read the ones from the last few hours yet) getting kinda trounced in the sympathy dept. in this instance, but ultimately I do agree with Meh in this case. However, I brought up the issue to CS and I got a response referring to their $6 monthly fee when, last I checked, it’s $8.99/month. I know the price of everything has gone up, but the quick and steady climb of the monthly sub started a few years ago, IIRC.
@mehvid1 I just saw that exchange. Things move pretty quick around here and we were still working through updating our CS material when your message came across. Just a mixup based on the previous amount. Thanks for helping us ID an area for improvement!
And fwiw, the membership price was last increased in 2021.
@ChadP I’m sorry, very off topic, but I think you need to change your user name to ChadgPt…
@bee1doll my kid calls me that
@bee1doll @ChadP
Nice to know they consider you a fountain of (questionably useless) knowledge! I thought that was just my kids…
I mean look, I get what everyone is saying but making customers have to remember to come back and cancel it is anti-consumer no matter what anyone says. I forget to cancel stuff all the time, I have ADHD and a busy life, managing subscriptions to services shouldn’t have to be this thing where we all have to constantly monitor everything or we end getting bled out of $. Meh is the ONLY company I’ve seen do it like this, so I try to make an adaptation strategy around my disability and circumstances, but meh.com has to play games and make it hard.
@artec I always set a reminder on my phone if I’m not letting it renew. It’s not a terrible system if you know how it works… Yeah I can see how it would suck if you didn’t read how it works and lost free shipping days.
Fortunately, customer service here is usually really understanding and will work to make things right with you… In my many years coming to Meh, there’s been a handful of times I’ve had to contact customer service and every single time I did, they fixed things for me.
@artec @OnionSoup
The small handful of times I’ve had to contact CS they’ve been awe-some!
Screw you bot!
@chienfou @OnionSoup I think I made a reasonable statement and I stand by it
@artec @chienfou it can be a confusing policy- but as you mentioned above, they did refund you.
