@Felton10 i started my career in business analysis and decision support. I’m now in project management. I’ve worked in the healthcare business informatics industry for 13 years
T’is the season to share…
Suggestion: Some of your December augmentation can be given to charity (e.g., St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Red Cross, Salvation Army, to name a few worthy) to be used by those who need it more than you might.
You will still have more left than you have been used to. And you can plan your future splurges.
=========
Personally, I’m much better off this December than I have been for the last several years, and have been donating a lot more than usual. (And tipping a lot higher to low-wage workers.)
=========
And, CONGRATULATIONS. I imagine the promotion was well-earned and should be celebrated.
@phendrick I never like being that person, but maybe avoid the SA when it’s time to give. I prefer my donations to go to everyone in need, not just those an organization deems religiously acceptable. >.>
@PooltoyWolf You have good instincts! I would never give them a dime, i gave enough back in the days when i worked at my local SA Thrift Store as a teenager. My mother managed it, but i started as a volunteer, then they needed more help and hired me. My mother was a loyal employee for years, well after i had moved on, & when her health started to fail, they couldn’t wait to push her out, citing anemic sales as their lame excuse. They were very cutthroat and greedy, she probably would have been much better off working for Bezos or the Waltons!
@PooltoyWolf Thanks. It happened years ago, and she passed in 2009, but they really hurt her and I’ve never forgiven them for that. Luckily, there are so many more deserving charities around. I always get a hint of joy strolling past their stupid kettles in front of every third store this time of year!
@ircon96@PooltoyWolf Sorry about your experience. Around here the Salvation Army has a good reputation and the civic leaders promote it (local mayors just had a competition manning the kettle and it was covered by the media), though I have not worked with them personally, and there has been no mention of their discriminating in whom they help.
I imagine every charity is subject to some human corruption unless they monitor it closely, either in their operations or their financials. This is the same common human flaw that runs through corporations and governments, e.g. (In the last couple of years, we have had two different counties that found embezzlement by their local officials).
@ircon96@phendrick Personally I refuse to donate my money to organizations known to cause harm to people who aren’t straight Christians. That’s my personal stance, based on the people I love. -shrug-
This is also why I will not buy food at Chick-fil-A, no matter how delicious it may be…
@phendrick So true, i tend to keep low expectations when it comes to human fallibility, shortcomings, etc, but i have a particularly strong disdain for hypocrisy in all its forms, especially in those who hide behind religion. I think maybe it’s because it just takes that extra level of gall.
Hmm…I wonder how you could possibly celebrate…

@phendrick yes, we will continue to tithe on top of the family we adopted already this season

@ircon96 Sorry to hear that. X.x

@ircon96 It can be awkward explaining to family members or friends, but so far, most of them have understood.

Awesome
HIKING! VIKINGS! STRIKE KING [BRAND FISHING LURES]! AWESOME!
Congrats!
Celebrate by doing something that’s really fun, but is less stupid than how you would have celebrated at age 20.
Hey, we’ll ALL celebrate for you!
