I had to turn off Siri

So my kids (6 & 8 y/o) play on their ipad and decided to ask Siri a multitude of questions… what does a T-Rex look like?.. what kind of bug is this?.. random farting noises… this sucks… what sucks?.. My little girl looks at me and says “sometimes Siri shows us some of the craziest stuff”.

Bye bye, Siri.

My 3 y/o uses an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids version. She uses the voice search in the YouTube Kids app which is pretty good about keeping the content kid-safe. I don’t give her direct access to Google Search or any web browsers. Sometimes we use “Ok Google” to search pictures of stuff she wants to look at using voice search, but I always supervise.

@tinamarie1974 I had heard about this before, but only after the responses from @thisismyusername and @shortman did I realize that you meant “zero divided by zero”. I would have just asked “What is zero zero?” ( parsing it like “they have a 50/50 chance”) and probably came away wondering what the fuss was about.

You might want to consider setting up parental controls on your iOS devices sand computers. Siri is certainly not the only way that your kids might encounter “crazy stuff” on the internet. They can type “funny” questions into a Google search or a YouTube search, for instance. And it does not just happen in your home, either.

It’s not much, but under Settings - General - Restrictions - Siri, you can turn off explicit language and web search content.

I hate Siri as well. But the stupid Voice Control that gets activated when you turn Siri off is quite weird as well. If anyone have this trouble, you can turn both off.
