@cranky1950 Yeah but I can kind of feel for them. They could see the win they thought they had in the bag slipping away from them after having been such an underdog all year long.
@jbartus That’s an old favorite coaching philsophy when you know you’re going to win. Let them think they’re in it in the first half, then take away from them. Usually a team will fold.
@cranky1950 honestly I don’t think it’s fair to credit Belichick or any of the Patriots coaches for that one. Jacksonville played exceedingly well. Very impressed by their performance this year.
@jbartus I dunno, they played their best and when it wasn’t enough they got dirty. Taking out Gronk was dirty, the guy was head hunting. Honestly Jax got played like a fiddle. The Eagles are a different kettle of fish though. It’s going to be an even game, maybe the Eagles are a little better team.
@cranky1950 the Patriots are always strong into the 60th minute. Yeah Jax had some players who did some shitty stuff but they still played a good game despite.
Tom Brady is now officially the biggest DIVA in the NFL, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Wearing bright red receiver gloves to your presser and then refusing to answer questions about your hands is some Mariah Carey level DIVA shit.
@mtb002 yawn. Sorry but I’m not even close to even seeing where you’re coming from on this one, never mind agreeing. Imagine being him, having accomplished all he has, then have the press spend the four days leading up to this game sensationalizing an exceedingly minor injury, discussing it to death, speculating that you’ll be unable to perform, etc.
Then you went out there on game day and performed to spec. Would you give them the time of day on that particular subject? I know I’d be sick of hearing about it and let my actions stand on their own.
The press was doing a lot of speculating because BB keeps injury info extremely close. I’m talking about wearing bright red gloves that would obviously draw attention his hands to his friday presser(before the game). I don’t think it was unreasonable to ask him about it, though he certainly acted like it was unreasonable. He could have just put the athletic tape over it like he did in the game and everyone wouldn’t have made such a big deal out of it, which I suspect wouldn’t have pleased him.
@mtb002 ah this is the Friday presser. Yeah that’s a mind game as mentioned previously. Gotta keep your opponents off balance. I thought you’d seen something in the post game you were objecting to.
@mtb002 They pretty much treated the hand injury as I expected. Belichick likes to teach and talk about football, but not to give away any information about how the Pats will play. Here’s the transcript of the Friday press conference. Bill spends about 300 words in an answer about the Jacksonville defense. But ask him about the Patriots, and he replies “I don’t know.” Tom Brady uses the same playbook for his press conference.
@sligett
My problem wasn’t with what he said, but what he wore. He could have just worn the tape like he did for the game, but he wore RED gloves, on both hands trying to draw attention to them, only purpose to keep the focus on him. Drama.
@mtb002 Yes, it was all part of the performance. I understand that you didn’t like it; I just think it comes with the territory. Only one game left to see if their performance on the field is as good as off the field.
@mtb002 you’re crediting that to ego though, it’s not like Brady needs to wear red gloves for that to be a topic of conversation or for him to be in the spotlight. I think there is a pre-existing bias here and the gloves are just the most recent excuse to justify it. Hiding the injury leaves the other team in the dark and unable to try to plan against it. It’s the usual playing things close to the chest the Patriots have always done under Bill
@jbartus
It’s just my opinion, obviously only Brady knows why he did what he did what he did, but from my perspective, playing things close to the vest doesn’t mean drawing attention to the injured area the way he did. Maybe he was trying to hide it and it had the opposite effect, but I think he’s smarter than that.
@mtb002
I imagine the red gloves were deliberate. I imagine it was him teasing the press and teasing expectations.
He knew it would annoy some people. And some people would find it to be major grandstanding. And some people would find it to be an amusing public gesture (me).
It just didn’t bother me tho. (I am nominally a Cowbots fan; although what’s the point of that, with JJ choking the team? Etc).
So what if the obsessive press interest in pro sports is another area where people play little games? My attitude: Love it or hate it, or get po’ed about it, but don’t let it ruin your day.
We’re a long way culturally from pure whites in tennis; and from Lou Gehrig being the “luckiest man on the face of the Earth”. The culture isn’t going back to that anytime soon.
As “media interest potential-troll crimes” go, the wearing of the red gloves is either not a troll-crime at all (I think it’s all funny); or else it’s a miniscule one.
It’s remarkable to me how when the Patriots win click bait articles like the one linked crop up everywhere alleging a blown call or calls as the basis for victory but when they lose it never happens. It’s almost like they’re pandering to the largest common denominator to drive advertising revenue or something. Especially those highly sports focused publications like Business Insider.
What’s Feb 4th?

@cranky1950 Yeah but I can kind of feel for them. They could see the win they thought they had in the bag slipping away from them after having been such an underdog all year long.

@magic_cave hardly. You were out played. It’s a 60 minute game, not 45.
AFC Champions!!! Superbowl here we come!!!
Is it possible? Can they repeat?
Hell to the YEAH!!!
@mfladd
@mfladd we? I didn’t know you were on the team. Congrats to you and your teammates!
Tom Brady is now officially the biggest DIVA in the NFL, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Wearing bright red receiver gloves to your presser and then refusing to answer questions about your hands is some Mariah Carey level DIVA shit.
@mtb002
@mfladd
Oh, it’s flowing. Ever since he was at Michigan. Only player I’ve hated more was Bill Romanowski.
@mtb002 yawn. Sorry but I’m not even close to even seeing where you’re coming from on this one, never mind agreeing. @mtb002 Both Bill and Tom gave classic Patriots press conferences Friday. Bill said “I don’t know” and Tom said “We’ll see.” Repeatedly.
You really don’t expect them to provide any information to the opposition, do you?
@sligett
Nope, I also didn’t expect him to wear red gloves to rub it in.
@mtb002 the press makes a mountain out of a molehill all week and he’s meant not to rub it in just a little when they’re proven ridiculous?
@jbartus
He rubbed it in before they were proven ridiculous. It was a troll of the highest magnitude.
@mtb002 ah this is the Friday presser. Yeah that’s a mind game as mentioned previously. Gotta keep your opponents off balance. I thought you’d seen something in the post game you were objecting to.

You just spent 6 paragraphs agreeing that he’s a diva.
@mtb002 She did admit to being a Cowbots fan.
/giphy cowbots
@mtb002
Nope. But read it easy if you want to.
@sammydog01
I am a fan of the once and possibly-future Cowboys.
Before they got all Jerry’d.
Someday …
They had a player or two thru the years.
Re that last fellow:. Around here, all you need is the b/w silhouette.
Philadelphia actually crisco’d their light poles to keep fans from climbing them, win or lose.
@mfladd I’m glad my job is not cleaning off Crisco in Philly.
@sammydog01 It’s Philly. They won’t clean it, it will just age.
@mfladd I think it was to stop public pole dancing.
@daveinwarsh Gravity, thou art a heartless bitch.
An inadvertent whistle can not be overturned.
@2many2no yawn.

@jbartus Hah! Gotcha to click.
I guess time will tell what, if anything, comes of it.
