But when I did drink it was a fancy rocks glass because I wasn’t an alcoholic if I didn’t pull from the bottle. (Psst. It’s the alcohol that makes me an alcoholic, not the drinking vessel)
A badass set of cut crystal rocks glasses that I picked up from Goodwill for pennies on the pennies on the dollar. The glasses are worth more than the whiskey I’m drinking out of them
More correctly, I don’t drink nasty, swamp or dead-tree flavored crap at all, but I might have a bit of a good whiskey once in a while. For that, the contents are what matters, not the vessel.
@chienfou Spilling good whiskey is alcohol abuse; get counseling. Spilling crap whiskey is an opportunity to use its solvent nature to clean some surfaces; get busy.
Clear Ice
Measure whiskey, simple syrup, bitters into glass. Twist orange peel over glass and drop in. Add dark sweet cherry. A gentle stir and add clear ice. Say Ahhhh! Mmmm! as you take your first sip.
Simple Syrup recipe: I make a lite version.
2 cups water - 3/4 cups white sugar. Orange peel. Dash of Cinnamon.
Heat water to simmer with orange peel; add dash of cinnamon to taste; simmer for 2-3 minutes; remove from heat; add and dissolve sugar; remove orange peel; filter syrup though a fine mesh strainer into a sealable container. Store syrup in refrigerator for up to a month.
(Some like their Old Fashioned sweeter. Full strength simple syrup is 1:1 ratio of water to sugar. Way too sweet for me but to each their own.)
– I choose Woodford Reserve Bitters because it the only one of the only bitters at Total Wine that doesn’t contain caramel coloring. (caramel coloring really pisses me off!)
– Maker’s Mark No. 46 is a budget friendly whiskey that really delivers with quality, drinkability and stands up to much more expensive whiskeys. My taste buds may not be as sophisticated as yours, so again, to each their own.
We have a couple of nice glencairns that I never remember to use, even though I usually drink whisk(e)y that is worthy of them. I just grab whatever rocks glass is handy.
The bottle. Why put it in something else when it’s already in a convenient portable container?
@awk Underachiever.
@awk Yeah, pasting a Diet Coke label onto the existing bottle is way easier than transferring the contents.
The vat. It is the only thing big enough.
September 9, 2017 was my last drink.

@show_the_maw
Congrats on your accomplishment!
@show_the_maw congratulations, I know it was hard, but look what you have to show for it!
where’s “the bottle”?
@regnowsin
in the liquor cabinet?
I rarely drink whiskey, though have been known to imbibe an ‘old fashioned’ now and then…
…context.
I rarely drink whiskey, but if I do it’s likely to be in this form:
Whiskey sours are okay too.

Gave up drinking years ago. All too often I drank it out of a big gulp cup
Have a bunch of Glencairn glasses from a few liquor festivals.
@Salanth Me opening this page: “CTRL + F ‘Glencairn’”
Congrats. That is the correct answer.
Whatever the distilleries in Scotland severd me the whiskey in…
How can “An old fruit jar” not be on the list of choices?
@crow It’s true, old fashioneds always taste best out of well used half pint mason jars.
: a need to divert my gaze from the ever-present and approaching void.
right?

@werehatrack
I don’t know… lapping it off the table you spilled it on kind of takes some of the joy out of the experience!

@werehatrack
Even with counseling you still have to address the spilled whiskey at some point.
@chienfou @werehatrack
That is what people have dogs and teenagers for.
