@mfladd How did I miss out on this product?!? You'd think Pepsi would've sent me one gratis, since I was kind enough to name my screen name after them. Sheesh. Ungrateful bastards.
And since y'all asked for my two cents (ahem); Pepsi is clearly the superior beverage:
Pepsi is sweeter, but a great deal of that is masked by the "bite" you get from the strong citrus "burn" flavor - which is what I like about pepsi so much.
With Coke, sure you get less sweet, but it's just all around more bland than Pepsi. Like a watered-down version of pepsi. No "bite" or "burn" from the citrus no strong sweet to accompany the burn and to apologize to your taste buds for singe-ing them all to hell with the "burn". Plus Coke overdoes it with the vanilla flavor and I haven't liked vanilla since I stopped being a 9 year-old girl.
Pepsi is for those who like to actually TASTE their drinks.
Coke is for people who can't actually tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi.
@pepsiwine Oh, pepsiwine, while your reply was verbose :) I disagree with your assessment. What I love about coke is the burn. I have always loved that even as a kid (just in case I have rusty nails in my stomach) That is my own sick problem. Pepsi is still too sickly sweet. But to each their own. I will still sit down with you for a beverage. We will just differ on the ordering. But I am buying :)
I accept your olive branch and am willing to have a beverage and.... nachos...(??)..... with you.
But don't forget about the second part of my name - at some point we'll have to bust out some Rioja or a couple of my Chiantis. Or if you're more of a beer guy then I can just let you drink straight from my toilet. Should taste about the same. ;)
@dashcloud I tried the Pepsi throwback a few times. It was alright. Still better than Coke. But I still like regular Pepsi more than Throwback. Dunno if it was just me or not but I felt like the Throwback had just a tiny bit of noticeable vanilla flavor to it and I don't care for the taste of added vanilla flavor.
And I admit I really dig drinking soda from a glass bottle. The container absolutely makes a difference in flavor no matter what soda you're drinking. Case in point, I would rather share some of that straight-from-the-toilet beer I mentioned to @mfladd than drink ANY soda from a plastic bottle. Cans are better, glass bottles are the best.
But yeah, I may like Pepsi (a lot) more than Coke, but I'm no Coke-basher, and Coke isn't half bad. I'll occasionally drink it if the restaurant I'm at doesn't serve Pepsi; although usually if they don't have Pepsi I'll just switch to whatever brand of root beer they're serving rather than go to Coke. And I give Coke HUGE props for being WAY better than both Mountain Dew and that Dr. Pepper crap.
@sohmageek Yeah Dr. pepper is so gross to me. I'd rather drink from a spittoon.
And vanilla is such a rich flavor that it has to be very, very subtle otherwise it's too much. If I can distinctly taste the vanilla in any particular food/drink then it's probably too much. (As opposed to the vanilla just subtley adding to the overall flavor of a substance, but not being separately discernible.)
I have a very sensitive palate. It's probably why I enjoy exploring wines so much.
@sohmageek Hmm, I don't taste the vanilla as strongly in root beer. It could be that any vanilla in it is subtle enough to complement the other flavors instead of standing out on its own and gagging me with its overt shittiness.
I don't have any one favorite kind of wine. I like a lot of different ones and I pick amongst those depending on the occasion, the food, the company, my mood, etc. In general, though, I prefer red wine, dry, smooth.
Probably one of my most reliable go-to wines, and the one that I think I have the most of is Concha y Toro's Casilero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon. But in general I'm not usually a big fan of cab-sauv's, but this one happened to be pretty decent (and affordable), and has broad appeal amongst most of the people I share it with. I think it also might've been on sale back when I bought it.
Any sort of Chianti is usually pretty reliable to fit my desired taste, but they're also typically a tad bit more expensive.
I was into Merlots for a long time, but then became bored with them and started exploring Shiraz/Sarah's, Pinot noirs, Bordeaux, and even some white wines.
Most recently I've been trying different Riojas and have found some to be quite good.
Its a journey. Even when I find ones I like, I still keep on trying new ones (or, new to me at least), to see if there are others out there I might like. If I find ones I really like I might buy a case or two to have on hand for when I want to drink a wine a KNOW I will like; and then when trying new ones I'll just grab a single bottle so in case I don't like it I haven't spent a ton.
And then one day I woke up and had a 350+ bottle wine collection.
@pepsiwine Vinho Verde I've had a few really good (cheap) California versions... and I've had some really really good Portuguese imported versions (more expensive) We had a little place we loved going, sadly it didn't last long, but the owner knew us and tried to always have a bottle on hand for us. He introduced us to a very good wine, I wish I could remember the name of it. It came in a ceramic container that was so heavy I thought there was lead in the ceramic (no not worried about lead poisoning with it, I know there wasn't lead in it... but it could have been a metal in there) he was telling us that if there was ever a brawl to bust out in his joint, that would be the first bottle he'd be grabbing.
But... the best thing he introduced us to was Mama Juana Which I may have to go to the dominican republic to get a bottle, or find some service to get it imported... We're talking wine and I'm jumping to liquor here, but it was amazing. He called it the Dominican version of herbal viagra (no it doesn't cause erections to last longer than 4 hours, but it does get you feeling nice and fuzzy!)
@sohmageek Very interesting! I think you've given me a couple more drinks to consider trying! I'm always up for trying new things, so I'll have to give Vinho verde and mamajuana a try.
I'm not much on sparkling wines, so I have my doubts that the Vinho verde will be to my liking, but I'll keep a open mind about it, especially considering that I was actually brave enough to try that Chocovine when it came out a few years ago (and yes it tastes exactly how it sounds - chocolate mixed in wine - and yes, it was vomitously-disgusting).
But that mamajuana sounds pretty good! The way they soak the rum and red wine in, like tree bark and shit, actually sounds like my kinda drink.
Have you ever tried Meade? It's like a honey-wine. I picked up a bottle of commercially produced Meade about a year ago or so,just to try something new. Don't remember the name off the top of my head. But it came with a bag of spice for you to use if you heat it up to drink it. Well, being that I like dry wines more than sweet wines the Meade really wasn't to my liking, but I'm glad I at least tried it.
You asked me earlier about a "favorite" wine - well, now that I think about it one of the wines I keep on hand for guests that THEY all like is Ecco Domani's Pinot Grigio. (Most of my guests aren't into wine like I am.) It's super cheap and it goes down easy. It's not much on flavor, but it's white and chilled so for some reason it really appeals to a lot of my friends that are typically beer drinkers. They'll turn their nose up at my high-end reds, but they slurp down this tasteless garbage like they're back in college or something. I think it must taste vaguely similar to beer (but smoother and better), but a lot of them forget about the higher alcohol content in wine than beer and it catches up to them eventually.
So... Yeah. Shit. I wrote a lot.
TL;DR? Trying mamajuana is now on my bucket list; and Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio - cheap, white, and goes down smooth
@pepsiwine Mama Juana is awesome... If you put it together it looks more like Marajuana... But... I do like Whites, not big into reds. I like the ice wines, and other dessert wines. I love Mead. There are a few that I've tried, and loved.
@MrMark even funnier is that most of the reviews were there before they even sold any... can't tell if it was a ruse to get people to quit looking, and thereby get better chances, or just sheer youth.
@connorbush not that I have seen... they didn't make very many... I have resigned myself to the fact that I am without a fuku and without a pepsi perfect.
@thismyusername I'm at a true crossroads right now. As a huge BTTF fan, I love the fact that this is super limited edition and highly collectible. BUT on the other hand, I could easily flip this sucker for $400. First world problems.
@thismyusername Id be really curious to see how many of these they actually sold. At NYCC, I know they gave out a total of 400 a day for 5 days. They also dished out a few promotional models to businesses. Finally they said that 6,500 were going to be sold on BTTF Day. So maybe a total of 10,000? Gotta really weigh out the exclusivity of the bottle.
@studerc yea the number they use 6,500 seems to be "for sale" units... if the comicon 2000 number is correct that would be 8,500 and I would not be shocked if they have 1,500 for internal... 10K sounds right to me.
Someone should get pepsi to say on record how many were released in total for future valuation.
@thismyusername I think in the long run it could be worth more, but that is a ways out. Perhaps at the 50 anniversary mark. I think at the moment people are bidding on emotion. I would expect in a month these to settle down to the $250 mark and stay there for a good number of years.
There are 6500 of these things at a minimum, they aren't overly rare. They are a replica (not an accurate one either, the word perfect is way off) of a prop in a movie, not an actual movie prop. Replicas do not hold as much value. Especially when there are 1000s of them
@thismyusername If I were to buy one... I'd drink it... However I do still have a mini bottle of coke sealed and not drunk from world of Coca-Cola and one that was (it leaked somehow... and ruined a few other collectables... after 5 years of being sealed it tasted almost new... but flat. Coke is the Twinkies of liquids...)
If you can't flip it now for at least $200 plus shipping, keep it. They'll be $50 or so when it all settles down on eBay, $75 max (IMO). There are just too many, and they aren't even true reproductions.
@Pavlov Appreciate the heads up. Just listed on ebay. After checking it appears that they are still selling consistently at the $300 mark with several bids. Hopefully i can flip before the bubble bursts...if not it will just be a nice little memento of Back to the Future day. I never wanted to resell but with demand high and the option to jump into another one in a few weeks it would be dumb not to at least attempt the flip.
@Pavlov Well fuck...5 day list and sold for $227.50. Then the bidders registration was invalid and the sale went through. Sell price has gone from around $300 to around $200 now. So unfortunate.
pepsi is gross
@Lotsofgoats pepsi is bad. Way to sweet. Coke is where it is at.
@Lotsofgoats Well yea, but it's not like I wanted it to drink, I wanted it to re-sell for 1 million dollars. muahahahhahaha
@mfladd coke sucks too
@Lotsofgoats you don't like anything. Except causing trouble. (which I can respect)
p.s. Coke doesn't suck.
@mfladd How did I miss out on this product?!? You'd think Pepsi would've sent me one gratis, since I was kind enough to name my screen name after them. Sheesh. Ungrateful bastards.

@mfladd Hey, some men LIKE it verbose!

;)
@mfladd soda in general is pretty awful unless you're a science experiment
@pepsiwine Do you like Pepsi Throwback more or less than regular Pepsi? How about the glass bottle Coke (real sugar)?
@dashcloud I tried the Pepsi throwback a few times. It was alright. Still better than Coke. But I still like regular Pepsi more than Throwback. Dunno if it was just me or not but I felt like the Throwback had just a tiny bit of noticeable vanilla flavor to it and I don't care for the taste of added vanilla flavor.

@pepsiwine What about Vanilla in Root beer? What is your favorite kind of wine? I prefer green :)
@sohmageek Hmm, I don't taste the vanilla as strongly in root beer. It could be that any vanilla in it is subtle enough to complement the other flavors instead of standing out on its own and gagging me with its overt shittiness.

@pepsiwine Vinho Verde I've had a few really good (cheap) California versions... and I've had some really really good Portuguese imported versions (more expensive) We had a little place we loved going, sadly it didn't last long, but the owner knew us and tried to always have a bottle on hand for us. wtf is this all I said was pepsi is gross and now it's a damn sommelier thread in here
@thismyusername What the hell are you talking about.
Also, I noticed amazon has a new homepage that I am liking.
@mfladd http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01516M9HY
@MrMark Ah. Thanks.
@mfladd read those reviews, it makes the missed fuku posts over here seem tame ;)
@thismyusername I saw that.
Those reviews are hilarious. I'm going to go out on a limb and say most were born in the 90s or later. So entitled.
@MrMark even funnier is that most of the reviews were there before they even sold any... can't tell if it was a ruse to get people to quit looking, and thereby get better chances, or just sheer youth.
@thismyusername Based on my limited research, it appears amazon did release a few early (on 10/20), but majority were released today at 9am EST.
According to Twitter, they will be re-releasing them sometime this morning.
Selling at Walmart and Amazon. I strangely was able to pick up one on Amazon about an hour ago. Full confirmation. Just thought you should know.
@studerc Yea I kept trying... they seemed to have been trickling them out, congrats!
The amazon release appears to have happened from 8am cst until around 8:40am cst at which time it just quit offering them (sporadically) .
@thismyusername any update on any more?
@studerc When? I am ready and willing.
@connorbush not that I have seen... they didn't make very many... I have resigned myself to the fact that I am without a fuku and without a pepsi perfect.
What flavor is it. What makes it perfect? Just regular Pepsi in a collectible bottle for back to the future?
@sohmageek it's just pepsi (made with sugar) it's a replica of the bottle from "back to the future 2".
@thismyusername I love me some real sugar Pepsi. But I suspect it is going to be expensive due to the whole movie tie in?
@sohmageek $20.15 at retail. around $400+ ebay.
@sohmageek walmarts are $19.85 and amazons are $20.15 :)
@MrMark I blame @jaremelz for the overpriced Pepsi. Should be $2 max!
@sohmageek No, this is Pepsi, max
In case they release any more here are the links that have worked at some point today...
Walmart link (not much activity since midnight cst 10/21):
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pepsi-Perfect-Cola-16.9-fl-oz/47300585
Amazon link (not much activity since 8:40am cst 10/21):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01516M9HY
@thismyusername Finally, a use for all the money I've "gained" by scanning my Walmart receipts with their stupid price matcher app!
@thismyusername The Amazon link doesn't work as of 13:30 EST.
Just saw this... oh well... I woulda just wasted the cash I made on it anyway ;)
@thismyusername I'm at a true crossroads right now. As a huge BTTF fan, I love the fact that this is super limited edition and highly collectible. BUT on the other hand, I could easily flip this sucker for $400. First world problems.
@studerc I bet the long term gains are pretty good (think how many will foolishly drink them), but $400 now will buy a lot of speaker docks.
@thismyusername Or diapers.
@thismyusername Id be really curious to see how many of these they actually sold. At NYCC, I know they gave out a total of 400 a day for 5 days. good read

There's a lot of outrage on social media about this. Think Fuku + BOC woes times eleventy million.
Welp, there it is...gorgeous!
@studerc eBay it before they reissue it and prices drop.
@Pavlov yup, in time these will be everywhere.
@Pavlov are they going to reissue them? Im torn between the quick flip and the fact im a due hard fan.
@studerc they are on 11/3 pepsi site
@studerc
Yep releasing it on their website on 11/3
@studerc
