I designed a shirt for my favorite band!
29I don't know if I'm breaking the rules or something by posting this, but it's something I'm SO EXCITED ABOUT and since I know MEH likes They Might Be Giants enough to have a theme song by Them---
My design is a limited edition tshirt that TMBG is selling preorder only for the next two days! I'm just so happy. It's basically a dream come true. (You could even say that "These things happen to other people / they don't happen at all...")

I've talked to a few of you on the forums before who do the woot shirts and stuff and while I've yet to break into that, i've really wanted to.... So, this is my FIRST SHIRT like this.
I'm mostly a lurker but you all tend to be such a nice community I thought I'd share. Happy freaking Tuesday!

That's awesome! And if you can do a shirt for these guys you should try it at Woot. Post your designs here and we might vote for them.
@sammydog01 @linnry This. Congrats!! You should definitely join us over at shirt.woot. It's a great way to test out new approaches and get feedback.
How are you at cats? (said @Narfcake)
Again, kudos!
@sammydog01 I'll start trying to do that! :D :D :D
This was sort of a lucky fluke, but it sure has increased my confidence.
@ACraigL I really need to work more on my digital abilities- this design is really just a high res scan of a traditional linocut I did. I need to get an adobe sub and practice more. (Not to say I don't love Gimp and Krita. I just know what the industry standard is).
@linnry You'd be surprised how easily that translates, once you get familiar with tools and techniques. I was a fine arts major and did tons of lino cuts and traditional media.
I actually scanned one of my college prints for a woodcut-themed derby, and it printed, so that works too. :)
@ACraigL Oh, that's really lovely!
Maybe I'll try to just do high res scans of traditional stuff and try to do color separation myself? Is that what you did here (or was it a single color woodcut initially?)
@linnry This was a reductive print, so yes, I did the color separation digitally, after the scan. It took a little time, but given that it was only 3 colors, doable.
@ACraigL The accusations that I only buy catshirts are purrposterous!
@linnry Nice work!
@narfcake
@narfcake @ACraigL
Of course not. You have other animals as well, but the catshirts look down at those. (Cat mentality)
@ACraigL Great design! Where do I get one?
@strongeagle Hey thanks! :)
That one is here: http://shirt.woot.com/offers/a-familiar-foe
@ACraigL Great, will buy! (We're great fans of the Don at our house...) What's the difference in brands between Standard and American Apparel?
@strongeagle AA is softer and tends to hold up better. It also has a more narrow fit, so some folks tend to go up a size. Standard (Anvil) has a more boxy fit. AA is the way to go IMO.
@strongeagle AA women's sizes are reportedly tiny so beware. The men's sizes are closer.
@strongeagle There are differences in the sleeve cut and shrinkage too. They're brought up in this thread.
@narfcake OK...I bought one. How fun.
@narfcake Wanted to let you know that I LOVE the t-shirt!
Congrats, and nice design! I like the woodcut /old school feel.
@gregormehndel Thanks!! The original piece was actually a linocut. Good eye. :D
Good news! Congrats! Suspect I will buy one in the next hour.
:D
Well done and thanks for sharing your excitement!
I love this design! My husband bought this shirt when we were in the hospital the day I had our baby (and we had had the song played as we walked down the aisle after getting married). But our washer went rogue and destroyed the shirt … Could I possibly buy a print of your design?
Um, I’m watching this clip on Conan outtakes and it looks like someone crossed the streams… https://www.facebook.com/teamcoco/videos/1229657070426506/
Why am I the only one amazed?
