Occasionally. But only because that’s pretty much the only places at school I can work are public ones like libraries. I hate doing it though. Even with headphones, it’s still distracting and irritating.
Though when I’m at home, I tend to take a ton of snack breaks, so I probably actually get more done when I’m at a public place…
Company network, Company laptop (not to be removed from Company facility). So, no. Not sure why I am issued a laptop if it never leaves my desk, unless they want to punish me with hardware that is even more outdated than its three-generations-ago status would indicate.
@PocketBrain The department I used to work for had a physical “on-call phone” that was passed around to whatever sucker had on-call duty. It was an ancient flip-phone. Employees continually dogged management to upgrade to a smart-phone so the on-call person could potentially solve problems more expeditiously. Management did upgrade the on-call phone to an android phone – without a data plan.
Once I leave the 4-walls of my office building I’m off duty. Aside from a significant server problem, I don’t do anything work related while not being at work.
@MrGlass
FWIW some Starbucks have liquor licenses now.
An individual in the legal area told me he normally needs to avoid any intoxication diring the day when working, save perhaps for a beer or two at lunch. But after 6pm … sometimes there’s a magic BAC that seems to assist his legal thinking.
@f00l yeah, but they are high traffic, terrible places to work. You sit in the back of a bar at 10am on a weekday, it’s gonna be nice and quiet.
One of the breakaway points in my career was when I learned how to be productive during the day, instead of your stereotypical 2am hacking session. I still somertimes grab a beer when working on a problem, but my days off using up 1/3rd of a bottle of scotch for tough bugs are over.

Library all the time. Saves on heating.
In college doing schoolwork? Seven days a week, five to eight hours a day, everywhere I went with connectivity.
/giphy white and nerdy
I work in a library every single day.
@conandlibrarian
Is that why you choose to renounce literacy?

@DrWorm does it have a sim card slot, you could always pitch in $20 a month for some data on a prepaid network
@communist why would someone pay $20 a month for something they need for work? Work should supply you with the items you need.

I was the 666th vote…kinda creepy lol
@prettyinpain79 how is it more creepy than the 665th vote?
If “work” means something that I am getting paid to do, then never. If “work” can mean anything that is productive, then occasionally.
HATE HATE HATE working in those places.
I’ve had great experiences working at a hotel pool, fireplace/pit, or bar. Less foot traffic, better scenery, and most important ample booze.
@MrGlass That doesn’t sound much like working
@compunaut I’m a hacker / developer. A lot of what I do doesn’t sound like working. Yet people keep paying me! Its weird.
Also, its well established coders work better drunk:

I’m disabled so I don’t work but I do love my husband taking me to Starbucks 2-3 times a week. It gets me out of the house and around people…
How much more frequent is Sometimes than Occasionally?
