@legendornothing I feel your pain. I moved from metro NYC, into a place 2x bigger out in southeast Ohio. I was in panic mode, because its all electric. I do a happy dance every time I get my bill…it’s 1/3 of ConEd kilowatt cost. Happy happy happy at that and infinitely better customer service.
lmao never. the thermostat in our apartment is kept under literal lock and key by my landlord. it’s inside a little locked metal box with holes in the bottom.
@RiotDemon heat and hot water (and water in general) is included in the rent, yes. which is common in boston. however tenants usually still have access to a thermostat, although i’m not sure any in previous places i lived really worked all that well anyway.
(eta: we pay electric & gas. the heat/hot water is oil.)
It depends. My fiance turns it down when I leave for work and I turn it back up when I get cold. I might turn it off if the weather is nice and I want to open the windows.
Have it at the same temp winter and summer. Might turn it off if the weather’s good enough to have the windows open, but don’t turn it up or down.
It adjusts automatically and I rarely have to change it.
I hired the thermostat to make those adjustments for me.
I never have to touch mine, program is set and I don’t have to worry about it.
@iluvmingos This, except those days when hot flashes are frequent.
It depends. I have it scheduled, but I haven’t changed it since my work schedule changed. I miss my old thermostat. It was much easier to program.
@RiotDemon That’s the goal. Get you thinking of how hard it is to program, then hit you with that smart thermostat deal.
The radiator mistress tempts me so but ConEd is a fickle and expensive bride

My stupid landlords have one temp for multiple apartments and you are supposed to call maintenance to have them adjust it.
@DoctorOW The 1950s called and they want their heating system back.
@pmarin They can have it! I don’t want it.
I set it 6 years ago, and it has been working fine. Or not working at all right now as the temperature is cool enough to not have to run the A/C.
Turn it down at night so the house is chilly. Turn it up in the morning to remove the chill
It’s off from April to October. After that, it’s pretty much set at 72°F
Cold in fall-winter, warm in spring-summer. Mostly never change it. If it was programmable, I’d probably make it colder at night.

@jerk_nugget why? Does your landlord pay the electricity?

78 degrees for us both in Summer and Winter. Makes things easy.
@Felton10 sort of like the classic radio station ads:
“Set your dial to W-blah-blah-blah and rip off the knob…”
