@studerc I've never understood why people in my line of work say things like "on a teachers salary." Most teachers in my district (that have been working for over 5 years) make over 70k for 10.5 months of work. I hear it all the time. Not criticizing, just saying the education gets a bad rap for paying peanuts, when I have never seen that to be true.
@conandlibrarian That could easily be adjusted based on regional cost of living. Here in Iowa, Im on year three, with a related Masters and am sitting in the mid 40s. Thats considered pretty solid pay for the size of school district to which i teach.
Compared to other friends of mine that graduated with non-education degrees, my mid 40s..even for 10.5 months of teaching is subpar. My move to administration will easily double my salary.
@conandlibrarian my spouse has 8 years teaching experience, several degrees including masters, and is making in the low 40's in Detroit Public Schools, so "teacher's salary" is marginally above what my spouse could make at Costco.
@studerc Gotcha. I had no idea where you lived, I just know how it is in California. Hopefully the move to administration will be a good one. most of my friends work in administration and love it once they get out of that couple of years as a vice-principal. It's such a tough job.
@conandlibrarian Oh yea...Cali cost of living is quite a bit higher than rural Iowa...haha. In comparison to most other "professional" career paths, education is pretty much destroyed. What we lack in initial salary we do tend to make up in retirement though.
@studerc yes, on top of solid teacher salaries in our state, the benies and job security rock over the private world.
Still have defined benefit pensions and full medical (active & retired) with minimal out of pocket. And teachers require districts buy medical coverage from their captive insurer. No competitive bid.
Districts are required to publish all positions with salaries over 100k. Teachers are often on those lists.
Regardless of the compensation, as parents, the dreaded thing to see - teachers who don't like teaching. Can ruin a class of kids.
@DMlivezey Your state, but in healthy school districts. I had a good friend whose wife taught in DPS. The stories. So sad. She loved teaching but was surrounded by those who did not.
@DMlivezey But she wouldn't get paid Holidays, summers + 3 weeks a year and weekends off. She wouldn't get a comparable benefits package, pension plan, 401k, etc.
Plus, last time I checked, a teacher's work day is from about 8:30am - 3:00pm. That's not even a full day. I know, I know... "gotta plan lessons and grade papers". I doubt teachers put in 12 hours a day during the 180 days in the year they work, which would equate to someone working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks of the year.
I get that teachers aren't paid what they should be paid. Most teachers don't choose the career for the money -- that's what Administration is for. It would be nice to see them make more, but it probably won't happen.
@capguncowboy i'm guessing you are not a teacher, nor married to one? my wife may be an exception, but she works 10-12 hours a day at least 6 days a week, and doesn't get/take much of the summer off, her benefits in DPS are not worth the deductible so she declines, no pension or 401K match, she leaves the house before 7 and normally gets back after 6 with a 30 minute commute. do you want your kids (if you have them, or just theoretically) taught by the teachers who skip work, don't grade papers and play videos instead of teaching? i know i am mixing arguments and blurring points, but there's just so much venting i hear about the situation, you're right though, we won't change it here...
I have ordered 2 pair of some bad ass headphones and a 20oz tumbler tonight. Also talked my grandpa into getting me a acer cromebook for $155. I love you meh and all your spectacular glory. And thank you guy from work for telling me of this beautiful creation meh is. I am now customer for life
@webender i've been able to kick the 'MUST CLICK THE MEH. BUTTON' phase of my addiction, now i must work on the 'MUST CLICK THE BUY BUTTON' phase, Meh.

96 orders. Don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a shopaholic. I know I'm not, cause I've never been to any of those meetings. I can stop shopping any time, but I'm not a quitter.
I do not feel this topic is an accurate representation of the average Meh user.
So to bring it down I'll add mine: 17 purchases.
Of that: 2 are used daily 2 are used weekly 3 are used once every other month or so 2 have been used once 2 haven't been used at all 1 was used frequently for the month of December 2 are for emergency and hopefully never used. 1 was used frequently until it died 2 were fukus, neither had anything spectacular.
@MrMark please elaborate on 'accurate representation', i'm interested in understanding your point better.
if i posted similar stats on my purchases, most are collecting dust possibly, except the ones i randomly decide to send to family as surprizes, and i'd bet i have a pretty tight grip on most cancelled Meh. orders, @hollbol and i are on a first name basis...
i have 3 fuku's to my name, but none on the order of the anniversary scores, and my last one did not include the requested pony or drone, can you imagine their nerve?
@DMlivezey There wasn't any grand point being made. I just feel the people responding were on the high side of the amount of items purchased compared to what the true median would be of all meh users that have purchased an item. I'm guessing even 17 is high compared to a true median.
There were really two separate thoughts in there. One commenting on the number of items that have purchased. The second being a distribution on my purchases that was really not part of the topic.
@MrMark i'd bet people on the high side are also people who frequent the forum(s) and might be more likely to comment, so it is definitely not a peer-reviewed scientific spanish inquisition (no one expects a spanish inquisition!), Meh.
"Pony is a hardcore meh fiend having placed 47 orders" Not a very impressive number, but I have very little money for non-essentials. I Meh the best I can.
@DMlivezey People are always asking for me- I'm wildly popular, apparently. I keep telling everyone I'm not available, but they keep asking. So crazy. I doubt we're doppelgangers, but you never know- are you a fat middle-aged white chick with bright red dreadlocks?
@Pony i was with you all the way thru 'fat middle-aged white', and from there i'll have to take the 5th to protect the innocent - it's my bird-day (according to my indian friends), please be nice if you respond, or i might get teary-eyed...
I just ordered some of those damn fine coffee mugs. So that makes two orders, but it's a total of 6 coffee mugs altogether. I was unemployed for a long time and couldn't afford a lot of extra meh stuff. But now, look at me...more coffee mugs, yay!
@awk I still have my first woot purchase from Christmas Eve 2004, the LEGO NBA Build-a-Brawl set. Both of my kids have had a great time with it. Can't really say that for all the thermal tumblers I buy from meh.
108 for me. @lary my husband 39.
Barney has no purchases, but my friend has 83 and has also managed to acquire all of the Fukus.
@Barney Something a little fishy going on here.
said the purple coelacanth.
@Teripie
lajivzy has #1. (0), but my friend has #4. (>150)
mmlivezey has #1. (9) for those times when Qty 3 was just not enough for the spouse - wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more...
Total of 138. Pretty confident that aren't many that will best that.
On a teacher salary.
The wifey @chaoscatapult has pitched in another 20.

@RedOak what state has such a system of edu-ma-cation?
@DMlivezey Your state, but in healthy school districts. I had a good friend whose wife taught in DPS. The stories. So sad. She loved teaching but was surrounded by those who did not.

The second #1 -23 total. I thought made way more purchases than that. Hmm, I guess I am pretty meh.
Ummm the second #1 I guess.
I only have 25 total items but a few things have sold out before I woke up (like all the fuku's.)
51-100...
55 total.
I've only bought 8 things. But I did order a couple more things and then cancel, if that counts.
@lljk it counts, until you cancel... :)
Too many, considering meh hasn't offered a single catshirt!
(still under 100, though).
Nevermind. Today's meh cups made it 100.
@narfcake Happy Centennial
@mehbee "My condolences" would also have been a proper reply. :)
@narfcake LOL, I'll keep that in mind
59 items
65
Whew, I thought it'd be higher.
I'm a bit of a shopaholic...
@mamawoot I only had 57. I was shocked. Don't know if those are orders or items because I buy two or three items on one order often.
I have ordered 2 pair of some bad ass headphones and a 20oz tumbler tonight. Also talked my grandpa into getting me a acer cromebook for $155. I love you meh and all your spectacular glory. And thank you guy from work for telling me of this beautiful creation meh is. I am now customer for life
@boredashell Welcome to the community!
57, and for anyone who checks out my activity...my post that I liked myself was an accident..really.
172 items over 113 orders. I need help :(
But then again, everyone needs a hobby, amirite?
@webender Tejas thanks you for your valiant efforts at keeping their landfills empty.
@webender how do you know the item count?
@DMlivezey Account>My Orders, and I scrolled and counted. (Old school)
@webender i've been able to kick the 'MUST CLICK THE MEH. BUTTON' phase of my addiction, now i must work on the 'MUST CLICK THE BUY BUTTON' phase, Meh.
Meh.be we should start a support group?
10 buys for moi
2... AKA too many...
Apparently I'm not that into Self-love.. a little over 2%... ;)
96 orders.
Don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a shopaholic.
I know I'm not, cause I've never been to any of those meetings. I can stop shopping any time, but I'm not a quitter.
113 orders with far too many "add more"s
I do not feel this topic is an accurate representation of the average Meh user.
So to bring it down I'll add mine: 17 purchases.
Of that:
2 are used daily
2 are used weekly
3 are used once every other month or so
2 have been used once
2 haven't been used at all
1 was used frequently for the month of December

1 was used frequently until it died
2 were fukus, neither had anything spectacular.

@Pony wait, maybe you are the pony i asked for in my Fuku, it's all making sense now, i'll bet we are doppelgangers too...
@DMlivezey People are always asking for me- I'm wildly popular, apparently. I keep telling everyone I'm not available, but they keep asking. So crazy. I doubt we're doppelgangers, but you never know- are you a fat middle-aged white chick with bright red dreadlocks?

@DMlivezey Ah- perhaps we're just dopplers instead of gangers. Or something. Hippo birdie two ewes!
@Pony tanks
I just ordered some of those damn fine coffee mugs. So that makes two orders, but it's a total of 6 coffee mugs altogether. I was unemployed for a long time and couldn't afford a lot of extra meh stuff. But now, look at me...more coffee mugs, yay!
@melwin you go girl! (or guy), is that pic from twin peaks?
@DMlivezey Yes, that's Special Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks! He looks about 12 in this photo.
Billions and billions....
@thismyusername
Hah! I always lie!
Double Hah! Most of it is useless crap, FTW!
Triple Hah! f00l has been Mediocre for 880 days. Well i guess they have problems counting to really large #'s, so i'll go with 880, same as my age!
@f00l 49 is pretty close to billions, but even closer to 50
I've purchased a total of 32 items, or average of one every 14-15 days. I got one Fuku.
I didn't learn about Meh until Dec 2014. (I've been on Woot since 2005 though). My first purchase was the "Accu Force 3.5 Channel Helicopter".
I use pretty much every purchase regularly (at least once per week), except the various RC copters, haven't touched one in a while.
Distribution of my purchases:

@awk wow, nice analysis!
@awk I still have my first woot purchase from Christmas Eve 2004, the LEGO NBA Build-a-Brawl set. Both of my kids have had a great time with it. Can't really say that for all the thermal tumblers I buy from meh.
25 plus 2 Mediocres
I'll never tell!
@Lotsofgoats I know a secret!!
@Lotsofgoats duh :)

regarding my join date, it was a day and I decided to join
@Lotsofgoats is it your fault i did not get the pony in my recent fuku shipment?
@DMlivezey I will take the blame for @Pony not being in your fuku because that sounds dangerous and I wouldn't advise such a shipment
