@ThatsHeadly I suspect that is, in part, associated with the $4 a cup foofey hipster coffee drinks, and the profit margin on a pound of coffee has increased dramatically since 1970.
In 1970 a pound of premium coffee cost about $0.85 at retail. Today a pound of premium coffee is about $11. An increase of 1300%. Yet the inflation rate for the US dollar during that same period is 625%. And that’s the unprepared beans.
In 1970 a cup of coffee at Denny’s was $0.10. Today a cup of coffee at Denny’s is $2.99. An increase of 3000%.
I was unable to calculate a rate of imported coffee per capita in 1970 versus 2016, but I suspect the number will show a reduction in the per capita import of coffee.
Two Bubba 24oz tumblers of home brewed coffee, and a venti mocha from Starbucks because the drive home from getting my kid’s allergy shots wasn’t going to go well without more caffeine.
Since it is after midnight, a new day. I am working on the first of a 5 cup pot which is like a cup and a half of REAL cups. I’ll have another on the road.
I remember having coffee (well, milk with a bit of coffee) regularly since age 8. This was before caffeine was well known to be not good for kids.
@InnocuousFarmer Coffee makers with timers help with this. The coffee may not taste the best, but it’s caffeine ready to pour when you roll out of bed.
wow, was really surprised to see i’m in the majority with not drinking coffee! interesting.
i personally just don’t like the taste but i don’t care for the effects either. i do like the smell, though. sometimes i see coffee and think “wow that looks delicious” and then i taste it and every single time i remember “no, this is gross.”
in the winter i sometimes have tea at night (or if i’m sick) but 99% of the time unless i’m drinking alcohol i just drink iced tap water.
Only one so far.
The real question should be, why does caffeine only work after 6pm (and then only if you want to go to sleep at a normal hour)?
Morning and afternoon coffee does nothing!
Sadly, zero. I loved coffee from toddlerhood, begged for a sip from my mom’s creamed and sugared cup every morning till my parents finally gave me free access at age 12. They thought I wouldn’t like it once I could actually drink it but I was a coffee fiend for years till I developed a sensitivity to it (coffee, not caffeine) and now I basically can’t drink it at all. So I am a tea drinker. But I still love coffee, the scent is a sirens call that I still sometimes fall for, damn the consequences.
@moondrake I quit drinking coffee for around six months (quit sodas, too) trying to get healthy and lose some weight. It sucked and I drink coffee again (no soda, though). I can only imagine how painful it would be to be denied it forever. I’m so sorry.
Today, Wednesday?
Sill working on the first from 05:00, but it was generous.
Coffee seems to have lost purchase on American society over the last few decades.
@ruouttaurmind ? Coffee revenues have been steadily increasing in the US for decades.

@ThatsHeadly I did locate this chart produced by the USDA in 2007 comparing per capital coffee consumption to carbonated soft drinks.
The fact that you did all that work at 5:00 AM Pacific Stomach Time makes me suspect coffee consumption is still pretty high SOMEwhere.
@ruouttaurmind the kids are all drinking their toxic Red Bull and fizzy Grapefruit Stimulant Masochisms.
@aetris I’m a fizzy drink man. Pepsi: nectar of the Gods.
@InnocuousFarmer I tried a Red Bull once. It didn’t do much for my energy and alertness, but my anxiety and paranoia went through the roof.
@ruouttaurmind - I WAS a fizzy drink man but my waistline didn’t look like THAT!
I was fizzy until I started getting fuzzy.

4 to 7 cups a day. Usually.
An insufficient number.
I had my usual one home-made latté this morning. Does that count as one cup?
3-5. that they’re 20oz each is a minor detail.

Not into coffee. I’m into sports drinks with caffeine. Caffeine is my drug
I brewed tea this morning. Some days I do coffee, it all depends on how well my FitBit tells me I slept the previous night.
Sadly I don’t like coffee! Wish I did
I don’t drink coffee, I inject it directly with an IV.
Hey, do Roman EMTs use 4s?
I’ve had my one coffee, and in a little bit, I’ll have the other coffee, but after that, it’s all decaf
I need to go grind some beans. But I don’t have the energy. I need coffee. But I don’t have any coffee because I need to go grind some beans.
@lisaviolet I’ve often felt that my mornings would go a lot better if I could have precoffee to help me make the coffee.
@InnocuousFarmer Coffee makers with timers help with this. The coffee may not taste the best, but it’s caffeine ready to pour when you roll out of bed.
@PurplePawprints I bought one of those from meh, but it didn’t work the way I wanted and the resulting coffee was extremely disappointing.
I could pick up the current deal, and hope that it works out better, but I really like the aero press. Then again…
Mornings really are terrible times to be awake.
I don’t need coffee. I invented a caffeine-free way to soothe my nerves and stimulate my senses.

I’m on the oh, so important second cup of coffee. I just wanted to thank Morningsave for the smile, this morning.

Only one so far.

Morning and afternoon coffee does nothing!
@smilingjack You need stronger morning coffee.

@smilingjack You’re doing something wrong.

@moondrake I am so sorry for your loss
