I used to live at the end of the hospital’s parking lot when I worked there. Literally took me 2 minutes from when I locked the front door to the moment I clocked in. Those were the days.
20 minutes, but then it takes 5 minutes to get through the garage, parked, into the building, and up to my office. I always seem to forget that when I’m rushing in the morning.
35 minutes on a two lane divided road, the most traffic I see is on the bypass that goes to the interstate connection. I use the road that runs parallel to the interstate. I maybe see 7 cars going in my direction for the majority of the drive, it adds about 5-8 minutes from taking the interstate but I would rather spend an extra 6.5 minutes with little traffic than deal with the interstate.
@Kawa Yeah, I was torn between the “no job” and the “work from home” boxes, as I’m retired and living on my pension, but I make and sell art. I chose unemployed as the art isnt enough to actually live on. Been busting my hump making stuff the last couple of weeks though, as I have two very different type shows looming, one next weekend and the other the weekend after that. Coming into show season in general and I have to stay on top of being ready and making stuff.
I live in PA and work in NJ. About 38 miles each way. Takes 40 minutes in the morning (I start at 7 am) and about 60 minutes going home (I’m done at 3:30). Going home I go a different route that’s technically longer but at least it moves. The other one is a traffic clusterfuck where you sit there cursing all the assholes that won’t let others properly merge. For those in the Philly area, this would be going from I-95 N to the Blue Route. You know it sucks.
@aetris Yep, over the CB. I stay right on the 95 N ramp and hop right back off at Chester/Kerlin St. Take the back roads up to 352, go through Brookhaven to the Media bypass. Take 320 up past Lawrence Park and home to Havertown.
WOW!?! That’s really better than the Blue Route BEFORE rush hour??? I would’ve thought that route’d be all traffic lights? I see a lot of traffic on 3 at rush hour (I go over to Dunwoody after 5 from time to time) but it doesn’t look all that bad.
Here’s a question - how many of us are going to be commuting DURING THE ECLIPSE? The apogee or whatever for this area is RIGHT in the middle of when I’m usually on the road. I wonder if the madness will be worse than usual?
Mine is about 1 hr in the morning to work and 1-1/2 hrs in the afternoon coming home. It’s worth it because I get to live in a horse friendly community. Alpaca, Llamas, Horses, Chickens, and a usually compliant bunch of Jack Rabbits all share the land. I own acres of land with apple, apricot, plum and cherry trees. And my backyard and patio have awesome views of the Sandia mountains. So, yeah, I traded some time behind the wheel for a home/resort life away from work.
When I first moved to the city, it was over an hour. Now, after a more informed move, it’s 15 minutes at worst
About 15-20 minutes these days, thankfully.
My previous work was about an hour commute. For 20 miles.
@narfcake
This would be a perfect application for the forthcoming vomit emoji.

@narfcake Here’s my commute:
Was an hour or two each way before being laid off a month ago. Couldn’t be happier to be laid off.
@Ignorant Uh oh?
@narfcake nah knew it was coming and was looking forward to it.
@Ignorant So congrats, I guess?
(Here’s hoping for a better opportunity now, though!)
Twelve minutes by car, nineteen by scooter. Sadly, 50 by bus otherwise I’d think about public transit.
I used to live at the end of the hospital’s parking lot when I worked there. Literally took me 2 minutes from when I locked the front door to the moment I clocked in. Those were the days.
10 minutes, 30 seconds.
Getting from my bed to my office chair, ready to work, takes about five minutes, max. LOVE working from home!
Plus, I don’t have to wear pants. Pants are so overrated.
@QuietDelusions Me, too.
20 minutes, but then it takes 5 minutes to get through the garage, parked, into the building, and up to my office. I always seem to forget that when I’m rushing in the morning.
It use to take me seven minutes door to door…then I moved. Now my commute is 45-1 hr. I think I did something wrong.
It use to be 30 minutes, but with school back in session it’s more like 45 minutes.
23 minute walk. Great way to start the day!
@callow When I lived in Oslo I had an 11-minute walk to work. A little longer (and more treacherous) when the sidewalks were coated with ice.
nada. Clump downstairs put on the coffee then crank up the my screwaround station.
@cranky1950 Does the screwaround company have good fringe benefits?
@therealjrn All of the benefits are fringe.
35-45 minutes in the morning, 45-60 minutes in the evening, 90-120 minutes when it rains. Oh and I live 7 miles from my office. Gotta love LA
@bish Good thing it only rains twice a year.
@bish Visited once in 1997. Didn’t like it. Shall Not be back.
@bish Westside?
@narfcake yessir – midcity to santa monica
I used to have to walk across the hallway to my office, but now I just sit on the end of the bed with my rolling laptop desk. Sweeeeet.
45 minutes to an hour, but it’s 50 miles (mostly interstate) so it could be a lot worse.

20 Minutes by car.
65-70 minutes by bike.
About 25 minutes TO work and about an hour and a quarter FROM work.
8 min by car, 23 min by bike, 4 Hours 10 minutes by moonwalking.
About an hour and forty minutes in a train and a half hour or so on foot.
I wonder how the people who don’t have a “job” have money to spend on Meh.
@lljk There’s a couple of retired folks on here spending bits of their pension/Social Security on mediocre merch, I think.
@Kawa Yeah, I was torn between the “no job” and the “work from home” boxes, as I’m retired and living on my pension, but I make and sell art. In absolute best circumstances it’s just under an hour, but it’s usually more like an hour and a half.
Where I used to work, it was 40 minutes. Sigh. The wage differential and the more interesting work is worth it, but…

Over the Commodore Barry? What’s your alternate, 252? Or 202 I guess. Good excuse to hit Total Wine…

@aetris Take a book and hunker down for a while- drivers will be staring at the sun instead if the road.
@sammydog01 - And if they stare TOO long, it may be QUITE a while before traffic starts moving!
Heres a nytimes story yesterday about a lady in San Fransisco’s 2 and a half hour commute https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/17/business/economy/san-francisco-commute.html
@communist Great read.
FWIW, SF is bad even at 4am.

About 25 minutes, either way.
I don’t think I could handle a 1-hour commute on a daily basis. I would end up being the source of some very sad news on the telly.
@PocketBrain
On a good day, when the trains aren’t all fucked up, it can take about 45-50 minutes, including a walk to and from the subway.
On a bad day, it can sometimes take 90 minutes.
And there’s been more bad subway days than good lately.

Stay at home mum here
