It was a slow Friday at the LTC at UW-Whitewater where I was working and a co-worker was commenting on the great deal on a vacuum cleaner he just got. I, also in need of a vacuum, asked where he got it online. He explained that he ordered it yesterday and that it was no longer available. I said I’d wait for them to restock he laughed, I signed up and here we are today.
So long time listener first time caller here: does Dec 13th 2004 count as “at its inception”? There’s no choice for " missed it by 5 months". (edit: math is hard)
Glad this question came up. I realized that I’d been using an older password over on Woot, and went through all the nonsense of signing in just to change it.
First Purchase: Sandisk 512MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner
Last purchase was a time sensitive Christmas gift for my mother on behalf of my father that he reimbursed me for. It got so messed up when apparently Woot never had the items in stock to start with, sold them anyways (3 of them), then never sent them and lied to me on multiple occasions that they sold out, even though I was the first Wooter. It went back and forth so much with different reps that eventually one off the record told me they messed up but there isn’t anyone who will admit it.
I told them that was my last day Wooting and I’ve stuck to it.
HORRIBLE customer service now compared to a decade ago. In a world of anonymous internet indifference, solid customer service makes all the difference. I know they don’t miss me or my business, but it’s the principle.
I created an account on Woot’s first birthday in 2005, but apparently (according to my purchase history) never actually bought anything until 6 months later. A Roomba, which I still have, somewhere.
@todaresq Yes. Usually in some hard-to-reach place where it ran out of power in a fight with rug fringe or a stray sock. I’ve found it meeping plaintively in odd places where it got trapped, but sometimes I don’t find it in time. I’m sure I will locate it as I am moving furniture around and cleaning.
Apparently, on Monday, April 11, 2005, though I waited for a little over a month to order my first purchase-- an Early Warning EW-3100 Radar & Laser Detector.
March 14, 2006. First thing I bought was a SanDisk MP3 player. Still have it… and then some LeakFrogs, which have actually saved my bacon on a couple of occasions.
I was employed by Woot starting Nov 30, 2009, but I guess I didn’t create my staff account that day. I had an account before then, but alas, I cannot recall the details.
July 13, 2009. One day after Woot’s birthday. I know woots birthday… because its the same date as my birthday. Woot hasn’t been the same since Amazon has owned it. Meh reminds me more of the original woot. That’s a good thing!
2009, apparently. Last visited the day after they moved the writeup off the main page in order to shove a thousand un-woot-worthy products onto it instead. Left a scathing comment about how I’d find the original crew once they got sick of the corporatism and started a new site, and how I’d probably need a new Sansa by then.
Took me a while to realize meh existed, but my Sansa Fuze is indeed kinda busted now. Get on it, dudes.
I found an article in The Wall Street Journal about woot in march or april of 2005. I wandered over and liked it. I read the forums for a few months before I finally posted, so my join date is 6/05 but I had been around longer. It was my first time ever posting on a site! I was then addicted! Drove into the city at midnight to meet a fellow wooter. (no traffic, it is annoying to know I’m only 30 minutes, door to door to manhattan when it can take 2 hours in the day) Eventually worked for woot for free, which at least gave me something to say when I did jury duty.
I still have a ton of rockboxed sansas (sitting in the bottom of a crate). Bought a couple of Sansas from them then got like 7 Sansas in a BOC (some working, some not) in like 2009.
Managed to get six BOC’s over 5 years. The first one had great stuff - digital camera, a couple of Sansas, some other goodies. After that, ABSOLUTELY nothing of value. Did manage to score some reasonable stuff, before the Death Star took over.
Wait a minute - Woot? I thought you meant Meh. It’s too early in the morning for me. Oh wait, it’s 2:00 pm. Ummm, a Saturday in the Fall of 2012 - got me a Nikon D3000 SLR w/ 18-55mm Lens Kit.
@aetris So help me, that’s where my brain went also. Even seeing the “10 years ago” choice made me think it was a trick to see how many BSers would so brazenly lie about how long they have been around.
We were pretty early to Woot. We even visited Woot headquarters - right as shirt.woot was being conceptualized. We even met the paper mâché head of Ken Jennings. Good times.

Oddly it’s my woot! cake day today; july 8th 2009, 10 years. Haven’t bought anything from there in years though. I do browse the main deals everyday still.
Joined 5/13/2006 First order was for 2 Luv n’ Care Fleece Baby Blankets - 6 Pack
The day that @Snapster posted his farewell, I packed up my beloved Crab Shirt and Black Triangle…jumped ship and swam off into the sunset.
Don’t recall how many BOCs I scored over the years, but I still have a couple of leak frogs and woot monkeys hiding around here somewhere.
First thing bought was a T-Shirt (Dental Damned), and then a set of Woot-Off lights. I haven’t bought anything from them since 2014. I wonder what other website could have been occupying my time???
I don’t remember when I started checking Woot, but I joined July 23, 2008 to get the LG monitor, which served me well for about 8 years until it gave up.
March 22, 2007, scored a BOC on March 23, my first purchase. Don’t remember how I heard/found out about woot. I found Meh through the woot boards before they were totally useless.

August 5th, 2004. I went in the other room to find my Woot charter member certificate, but it wasn’t where I thought it was. I think my charter member number was 1834, but I remember my free shipping code was purplehedgehogsnout
@uebergod I just realized I’ve held on to that certificate for nearly a decade and a half lol I still have my USB woot-off lights and my woot monkey. Last I checked only 1 light still worked.
Wait, get this… More than 10 years ago but after it’s inception! It’s almost like this should be an option.
@cinoclav same (I think anyway)
@capguncowboy @cinoclav me three!!
@capguncowboy @cinoclav @mikibell Me four! Sometime around 2006?

First order was a Sansa, followed by something called a BoC. Didn’t know what a BoC was, but everyone was wanting one.

@PocketBrain, I’m down with that - can we go back in time & update the poll?

As long as I was there, I grabbed a screenshot:
Just wanted to point out that more than half those purchases were from Wine dot Woot.
July 27, 2005
291 woots… Sorry landfills
Thursday, June 19, 2008
My first order was some Vornado Zippi fans. My daughter is using one at camp this week, so they are still getting good use more than 10 years later!
November 3, 2008. It was NOT for a catshirt. In fact, I didn’t even buy anything right away.
2007 for me. I think my second purchase was BOC. It was good. I was hooked.

The launch of Meh made me curiously happy.
Finally sent my USB Woot lights off to Goodwill.
@GroovesMcFly I had to buy my Woot-off lights from a thrift store.
@GroovesMcFly i just built i lighthouse with mine. kinda was sad and surprised it took this long to crack them open for internal parts
