How I Spent My Summer Vacation
27Hi, everybody! I’ve been away for a little while. What’d I miss? Anyone get a new tattoo or anything?
Because we’re friends, I’m sharing home movies of my vacation here. Keen-eyed viewers might spot another Woot staff alumnus (besides me).

That turtle was terrifying. But that water seemed very clear. Thanks for sharing!
Looks like you all had a great time!
BTW, your title reminds me of this:
@narfcake
I was going to say that that was on TV recently, but it was somewhere between 1 and 4 years ago.
This looks like my kind of vacation. Minnesota?
@capguncowboy Paddle at the end said Quetico so the Canadian side but they could have crossed over into the boundary waters (MN) if they wanted (well and if their permit let them).
@Kidsandliz The grill when they were cooking pancakes said US Forestry Service. It looks like the area of Atikokan, Ontario that I took a canoe trip in 20 years ago, which was just on the other side of the border from Minnesota.
We fished a lot on our trip and we caught mostly Pike and Smallies as well
@capguncowboy I used to work up there for Outward Bound and so canoed a lot of the area. Much of the area is very similar with respect to black flies, noseeums and mosquitoes. Oh wait they didn’t go there for them () - and the landscape, wildlife (although caribou are mostly Canada and not the USA side - their habitat, while overlapping moose for the most part runs north of the moose habitat. Any way you look at it the entire area is lovely.
Yes, this is the Boundary Waters. The paddle is from a 1991 trip four of us in the video took as high schoolers. That trip was ten days long, and took us up into Quetico. This time we were only in for five days, and stayed on the U.S. side.
@Kidsandliz I agree, it’s a lovely area
@matthew thanks for clarifying. I’m a little jealous of your trip. It looked like an absolute blast. Sorry I killed Hyram
@matthew High school in 1991 ??
damned kids, get off my lake!
@ekw @matthew We took a similar trip to the Boundary Waters after HS graduation in 1981. Planned on 10 days but ran low on food: the fish weren’t biting & bears emptied 1 cooler. Headed back to the Suburban after 7 days.
Good times. Thanks for sharing.
That looked like a perfect vacation. Hail and all.
Nice. It’s relaxing just watching that trip.
Thanks for the video. That was fun to watch. I should take my kids camping.

That looked like a fun and restful [in an exertional kind of way] trip, thanks for sharing!
I have to ask though- why/how did the dark silhouette of a man appear for a split second during the dark clouds segment?
If you explained in the narration, I apologize, I just watched and didn’t listen, but a first I thought I imagined it, but playing it back at 0.25X speed made it clear that it WAS there…
@PhysAssist time stamp?
Not much of a mystery: One of the guys walked in front of my camera
What I did on my summer vacation. The first day of my vacation, I woke up. Then I went downtown, to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drug store.…
