@wmeredith a friend just told me about it on Friday, too. Said it’s like being a little kid watching scary movies. Sounds intriguing, hopefully have time soon.
@lordbowen Netflix ran ads for this show in the stuff that plays before the movie in the theater. We all spent more time talking why Netflix was spending money this way than paying attention to the ad.
oooohh, netflix, right, it looks like a cross between ET and a Horror movie. I didn’t recognize the title till I saw @capguncowboy mention Netflix.
Must say, doesn’t catch my interest.
I just want to say this show is everything. Even the opening credits gave me tingles. Nothing else in recent memory has managed to recreate the feeling of my 80s childhood better than this series, the feeling of seeing movies like Goonies, Close Encounters, all the great 80s horror, adventure, sci fi movies, of reading classic Stephen King for the first time. This show was spot on, from the music, to the costuming, to the atmosphere, to the set dressing down to the color palette. I binged the whole series without pausing, came up for breath, then immediately started it again.
@HemlockTea Well now I’m somewhat interested in this thing I’d never heard of before. Interested enough to bum Netflix from a friend, perhaps, but that’s about it.
@serpent I haven’t seen True Detective yet, though I want to. I’m trying to read all of Game of Thrones before watching it, but the waiting list for the books at my library is still ridiculously long.
@capguncowboy Haha, no way, I don’t care enough about my looks to be a hipster. I also don’t have an iPhone (or any phone) & don’t do selfies (or any photos for that matter). I am pretty fine with my chicken not being free range, as long as it’s tasty, and I think SJW can go to hell. I just don’t feel like jumping on every trend right away just to be like everyone else. Instead I do things naturally at my own convoluted non-linear pace.
@f00l Totally! Watched “Lord of the Rings” in 2006, “Matrix” 2 & 3 in 2016. Neither of them was any special (unlike Peter Jackson’s “Bad Taste” & “Brain Dead” and the first “Matrix” f.e.), but just saying you don’t have to watch everything right away. There is A LOT of stuff to watch out there.
@HemlockTea Not planning to read “Game of Thrones” before watching it, but I will probably still wait for a couple more years before watching it. I feel like I’ll get to “True Detective” within months, but time will tell.
I don’t think they could have made a better representation of the 80s. I feel like I am reliving my childhood.
For those wondering what Stranger Things is, this should help.
I still don’t have netflix streaming, I canceled it when they wanted me… someone who has been with them since the freekin’ start… someone who still has the bluray by mail service with them… to pay $2 more a month for their streaming service that I don’t use all that much anyway. HOW DARE YOU REED… HOW DARE YOU…
@thismyusername Were you with them back when they charged per DVD? I was. For quite a while after they switched to the flat rate plan, they gave me a loyalty discount where I got four CDs a month for the three-a-month price. When I called them to cancel after I lost my job in 2003 they gave me three months for free. I’ve never signed up for streaming, though, because I have crappy Internet. So we watched Kimmy Schmidt on DVD.
It’s ridiculously good, and just came out as I’ve been teaching my six-year-old and some of his cousins to play Dungeons and Dragons. We’ve watched the crap out of this series and can’t wait for more.
Never heard of it before today but after looking it up and reading the reviews here, I’ll put it on my to watch list. Are you getting a kickback for advertising Meh?
By trying to resist hype, I mean I don’t really care to see it. I watched the trailer, but didn’t strike any interest in it. I feel the hype has done more to deter me from watching it. I’ll watch other shows. I feel all Netflix shows get hype whether they are really good or not.
@hollboll The school that they go to is the high school I graduated from! It completely blew my mind when I saw it…texted my sister and she said yeah…I didn’t tell you they filmed something there. It was very cool.
@jmendenhall I am not a big fan of scary stuff, and I thought it wasn’t that bad on the horror front. Couple scenes maybe cover her eyes
I liked it for the music and the 80s nostalgia.
By far, one of the best shows Netflix has ever produced, and that’s saying something
@capguncowboy I absolutely loved it!
Honestly can say that I never heard of this.
@hems79 It’s kind of like X-Files meets lean on Me. Get some. It’s very well done.
@wmeredith a friend just told me about it on Friday, too. Said it’s like being a little kid watching scary movies. Sounds intriguing, hopefully have time soon.
@wmeredith Stand By Me. I’d never thought about how close those two films’ titles are.
@ianfoo dammit
As @ianfoo pointed out… I meant Stand by Me. NOT Lean on Me.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
@hems79 Right there with you.
Never heard of it.
@lljk I thought they meant perfect strangers but I think this is something else.
@elimanningface Don’t be ridiculous!
The fuck is Stranger Things?
@nogoodwithnames amen.
never heard of it
@jaybird same here.
Why is there no option for “WTF is Stranger Things?”
@rprebel THIS
@rprebel Exactly what I came here to say.
@rprebel yerrpppp!
Great show - Didn’t like the finale though. Will wait to pass final judgment until season 2.
Wait, there’s hype about this show?
… lousy time to have just canceled Netflix, I guess.
(Hahah. Just when I think I have nothing in common with you people.)
We don’t need no stinking Netflix.
The Netflix reference explains why I’ve never heard of it.
@lordbowen Netflix ran ads for this show in the stuff that plays before the movie in the theater. We all spent more time talking why Netflix was spending money this way than paying attention to the ad.
@Cynamon Don’t go to the theatre, so thanks for this additional information. That does seem weird.
I don’t seen an option for heard of it, don’t care.
No TV. Don’t have Netflix. Meh.
@heartny is this your way of telling @meh to stop focussing on steak knives, hunting knives, and drones, and more on TVs? If so…+1.
@elimanningface i focus on what i wantttt
oooohh, netflix, right, it looks like a cross between ET and a Horror movie. I didn’t recognize the title till I saw @capguncowboy mention Netflix.
Must say, doesn’t catch my interest.
@sixsmith I’ve described it to people as a cross between Goonies and Poltergeist
@amazedblue I just describe it as awesome. I was hesitant when I first started watching it and then binged and watched them all in two days.
I just want to say this show is everything. Even the opening credits gave me tingles. Heard of it, but I didn’t watch Breaking Bad, True Detective and Game of Thrones yet, if that tells you something.
@serpent
Yeah i’m also a decade behind the curve w all video. Fuck 'em. That stuff will keep.
@serpent I haven’t seen True Detective yet, though I want to. I’m trying to read all of Game of Thrones before watching it, but the waiting list for the books at my library is still ridiculously long.
@serpent It does tell me something… Hipster…
@capguncowboy Haha, no way, I don’t care enough about my looks to be a hipster. I also don’t have an iPhone (or any phone) & don’t do selfies (or any photos for that matter). @serpent I too have yet to watch those.
Huh?
I don’t think they could have made a better representation of the 80s. I feel like I am reliving my childhood.
For those wondering what Stranger Things is, this should help.
@TheCO2 IMDb Top Rated TV #20
This poll needs to take a mulligan so we can see how many votes “Never heard of it” gets. That would be my vote.
@SSteve mine too!
I still don’t have netflix streaming, I canceled it when they wanted me… someone who has been with them since the freekin’ start… someone who still has the bluray by mail service with them… to pay $2 more a month for their streaming service that I don’t use all that much anyway. @SSteve Love Kimmy Schmidt also!

Never heard of it before today but after looking it up and reading the reviews here, I’ll put it on my to watch list. Are you getting a kickback for advertising Meh?
@callow same.
Watched the whole thing, and all I can say about it is “meh”. X-Files it ain’t.
I thought it was pretty legit. Really enjoyed it!
Never heard of it. Some posts here sound interesting, maybe I’ll check it out.
@Pantheist right there with you
The whole family (wife and and teenage children) loved it
It’s like Jurassic Park meets Zoolander. Perfect representation of Costa Rica in the 90’s.
By still trying to resist, i mean i don’t have netflix I have Prime streaming. When i get tired of Prime I’ll try something else.
Create your own Stranger Things message!

@djslack That is some fine use of this tool.
By trying to resist hype, I mean I don’t really care to see it. I watched the trailer, but didn’t strike any interest in it. I feel the hype has done more to deter me from watching it. I’ll watch other shows. I feel all Netflix shows get hype whether they are really good or not.
We’re just starting to watch it, so far I really like it! Feels very Super 8-esque to me.
@hollboll The school that they go to is the high school I graduated from! It completely blew my mind when I saw it…texted my sister and she said yeah…I didn’t tell you they filmed something there. It was very cool.
I want to watch it, but my wife doesn’t do will with thrillers/scary stuff. She is bummed because she is always willing to free Winona.
@jmendenhall I am not a big fan of scary stuff, and I thought it wasn’t that bad on the horror front. Couple scenes maybe cover her eyes
I liked it for the music and the 80s nostalgia.
Don’t know what stranger things is…
Great storytelling with a goonies feel. The font alone is lifted from a Steven King novel.
@StrangerDanger It has some aspects of King’s “The Firestarter”. Girl with telekinesis, government experiments…
@AnnaB don’t forget ET
@AnnaB Oh, you mean Fringe?
@SSteve no. I mean The Firestarter.
Where is my “gave it a chance but it doesn’t grab me” option?
I’m not saying it is bad. It is exactly what I expected, and I understand the appeal. But it is not for me.
Needs to be a voting button that says “what the heck is Stranger Things?”.
@pinkdog this is the button I was looking for
4 minutes
Finished it last night. I really liked it.
