@afwaller Definitely! Like, not to be a fatcat, but I’ll blow $20 at the bar for two drinks pre-flight, why not blow the $13 for wifi? I could go without internet for a few hours, but meh.
@daveinwarsh I kept parsing “behind the seat in front of me” as a really verbose way of saying “my seat”. And that seemed really odd you were watching the monitor installed in your own seat-back.
I finally realized “behind the seat” meant “installed in the seat-back”. Duh
I gathered any magazines that piled up at home and bring them with me.
Last year, I also downloaded some videos from Netflix for offline viewing and watched them on my Kindle 8. Switched to Airplane Mode and had a great series of flights.
Most of my flying was in the back of RH-53D and MH-53E helicopters. I would lean my head back on the bulkhead and the vibrations would put me right to sleep. I also carried a mesh hammock in my flight gear. The H53 is big enough to string one up for those long cross country flights.
@thebigtverberg Oh man… you’re missing being crammed in like a sardine, nowhere to put your elbows, getting to have someone lose your luggage and catching someone elses strep throat because of the lousy air circulation!
Usually read if I can but man is that uncomfortable. If the flight is long like when I travel to Korea I probably didn’t sleep much the night before. So that plus the seats “recline” a 1/3 of an inch, so sleep isn’t really happening and I can only find the patience to watch movies.
Short flight, read. Longer flights, I bring crochet. It’s amazing with all of the things you can’t bring on a plane that they allow the crochet hook and small scissors.
Read a page or two, look out the window for a couple minutes, read a page, thankyou I’d like coffee. Black. Yes, black coffee. Thanks. Watch context-free moving images on everybody else’s seatback screens, read a page…
Although… the last flight I took a few weeks ago…the woman I sat next to was friendly, we were same age and she was quite interesting. We yakked until the plane landed. Time passed quickly.
Depends on a lot of things
@simplersimon I think Depends are really only used for one thing.
@macromeh @simplersimon Wouldn’t that be two things?
Stare at people until they make eye contact then slowly turn away.
@medz that was you?
@hchavers
TV / Movie watching.
All of the above and other things as well, except for the sleep thing. I’ve never been able to sleep on a plane.
@baqui63 same. Even longer international flights and red eyes. My body just won’t allow it.
@baqui63 Ditto. Can’t sleep in a moving car either. No matter how long the trip. (and yeah… even when I’m driving)
Wifi
@afwaller how do you waste time on the internet? More like how don’t you waste time on the internet.

@DrWorm I could have worded it better I suppose… I also usually buy a Popular Mechanics magazine or something also…
We’ll I normally don’t bring thyme on a plane with me but if I did I’d have to say I’d cut it’s stem, and add it to some Italian cuisine
/giphy Thyme
Hottt sexxx fantasiesss.
Staring out the window, so I can see when the wing falls off.
@phendrick
Watch the movies I downloaded onto my phone or tablet. Yay, planning!

@Mehrocco_Mole @eonfifty that video is awesome, but I think she meant…

KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
Sit back (if the seat reclines) and silently judge poll writers who misspell sudoku?
@ciabelle What is this Soduku of which you speak!?
Sleep, movies, talk, games, read, eat, drink, and (if I’m on Delta) Hail Mary!
I imagine how I would kill the people sitting next to me.
I find that if you try and kill anything on an airplane you spend a lot of time pinned to the floor
@unksol I thought I was the only one!
@zinimusprime yeah people get real agressive about that whole wanting to live thing.
I’m probably on an FBI watch list now
@unksol you’re totally coming to my birthday party
Looking out the freakin’ window and being amazed at the sights. I’m of humble means, I don’t get to fly much.
Observe the colonial woman on the wing as she churns butter.
@jester747
@jester747 @ruouttaurmind
If it’s daytime and clear sky, I try to identify geographic features . If I can’t see the land…I watch downloaded movies on iPad or sleep.
Aside from a short Cessna trip as a child, I’ve never flown…
@thebigtverberg Oh man… you’re missing being crammed in like a sardine, nowhere to put your elbows, getting to have someone lose your luggage and catching someone elses strep throat because of the lousy air circulation!
Typically read, but if its over a flight that lasts over a few hours, I almost have to intersperse a couple of the inflight movies.

The real question: How do you kill AIR during TIME travel?
@mehzmerized The same way you do during AUTO or ELEVATOR travel?
Got about 30 hours on my phones playlist.
It hasn’t run out yet, but sometimes it helps me sleep.
How was “movies” not a choice? Definitely movies. And music. And podcasts. And audiobooks. And mobile games. And eating a lot of Biscoff cookies.
@billchase2 Podcasts all the way! Then you can stare at people and pretend you’re simply gazing deep into another dimension.
Lately? Nintendo Switch
Listen to an FM radio. You can hear tons of stations.
I don’t fly anymore…
Kill time? Take out the atomic clock?
And while you are at it shoot out all the clocks in the airport? (smirk)
