@pooflady@QuietDelusions@unksol I’m kinda anti-pants… I wear shorts a LOT. Way more than I ought to. Nobody wants to see my clanky knees, but TOO BAD SUCKERZ.
@Darrell2 Biking is a freakin’ dream! I have a short ~1 mile ride to and from work. Seattle is going through a hellscape traffic nightmare for a few weeks while some major construction happens – though traffic is usually bad anyway. None of that bothers me! I just sail on through the congestion, getting my exercise, lah-dee-freakin-dah!
@Darrell2@moonhat yes indeedy! I sort of lose track (no, completely lose track) of who lives where, but here I am in Frasiertown. I keep thinking I’ll run into Daphne, but sign of her yet.
I am sorta lucky that I’m even in a position where I can bike…it just wouldn’t work for a lot of people. But I have made adjustments through my life to keep it as an option, too… I just hate driving so much! I was motivated to keep walking/bussing/biking as easy options. Blah blah blah
I open my eyes.
Good morning, hausfrau.
It’s back to being a domestic goddess for me–a job that never seems to end. At least the benefits are decent, and there’s no dress code.
@mfladd Sadly, my shield maiden skills are only being put to good use when wading through a crowd of unwashed masses at Walmart. (Publix is continuing to push their prices into the Whole Foods range for simple everyday products. I love my local Publix, but sometimes love is not enough.)
I drive most days, but since I live and work in the same town I can run to work 2 days a week. That way I get cardio in and blast my quads like Flo’s sister.
@goldnectar I know at least 1 person that works for a company I work with that takes a cab/uber to go to work every day. I instead choose to go the 1+ hour subway commute.
@goldnectar@moonhat The expense of having a car can be higher than paying for the trip in high cost areas. Payment, insurance, license, fuel, parking, maintenance, etc. – it all adds up.
Renting a spot in most buildings with garages can run anywhere between $100 and $1,000 depending on the neighborhood, and if you opt for a private garage, NYC Parking authority reports that the average cost of monthly parking in the city clocks in at around $430.
San Francisco is no better. FWIW, you can make $100k there and still qualify for “low income” government assistance because the cost of living is so high.
I love when people here in Europe are like “why don’t they work on self-driving trains, it’d be much more helpful??” And I’m like uh…because they’re developing it in the US. We don’t have useful train systems. Like anything useful gets stopped by someone trying to make money off of it.
Apropos government shutdown, what’s the personal impact level for you guys?
Working from home is the best thing ever.
I get up 10 minutes before my shift starts. And I don’t wear pants.
(Think about that the next time you call someone to talk about your health insurance. Or cable bill. Or whatever.)
@QuietDelusions Me, too.
@pooflady @QuietDelusions what are these “pants” you speak of?
@pooflady @unksol
@pooflady @QuietDelusions @unksol I’m kinda anti-pants… I wear shorts a LOT. Way more than I ought to. Nobody wants to see my clanky knees, but TOO BAD SUCKERZ.
@QuietDelusions Hey dude, that (the presence or absence of pants) applies to both sides of the call.
Bike or drive. I prefer to bike.

@Darrell2 @UncleVinny Vinny I didn’t know you were in Seattle, too! I bus or sounder train from Mukilteo. I’m so jeal that you bike!
@Darrell2 @moonhat yes indeedy! I sort of lose track (no, completely lose track) of who lives where, but here I am in Frasiertown. I keep thinking I’ll run into Daphne, but sign of her yet.

I was offered a job and took it. I’ve done a good job at it so they let me keep doing it. That’s how I get to work.
I don’t.
Work?!? I’m retired. Ain’t no going to work for me!
I open my eyes.
Good morning, hausfrau.

@LaVikinga Don’t forget your duties as a Shield Maiden…
@mfladd Sadly, my shield maiden skills are only being put to good use when wading through a crowd of unwashed masses at Walmart. (Publix is continuing to push their prices into the Whole Foods range for simple everyday products. I love my local Publix, but sometimes love is not enough.)
I walk down the stairs. If I’m not careful it could be a long trip.
A plane, about 33% of the time.
Bike commute. Bus would take about 3 times as long.
When I had to go into work, it was a 3/4 mile walk. The rest of the time it was 50 feet into my home office.
@olperfesser My husband enjoyed working from home in his Gunsmoke pj’s. Who wouldn’t?
Does “drive” include motorcycles? I mean, you don’t drive a bicycle either, right? That’s so motorcyclist. I am triggered. I need a safe space!
Drive… for far too long…
Work? Not me!
@daveinwarsh I’m sure there was a time period Bob Denver worried he’s be typecast as Maynard…
Work?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Retired…but bicycled when I worked.
I drive most days, but since I live and work in the same town I can run to work 2 days a week. That way I get cardio in and blast my quads like Flo’s sister.
Drive to and for
Work?? Happily retired.
Drive 40 minutes then park a mile away and walk in
By ferry boat then bicycle.
I don’t. Everywhere else, I drive.
Also, who is the one person who clicked “take a cab.” Who depends on cabs to go to work everyday? New Yorkers?
@goldnectar I know at least 1 person that works for a company I work with that takes a cab/uber to go to work every day. I instead choose to go the 1+ hour subway commute.
@goldnectar that IS crazy, cabbing to work, wow. And how did you know it was one person that selected that answer??
@goldnectar @moonhat The expense of having a car can be higher than paying for the trip in high cost areas. Payment, insurance, license, fuel, parking, maintenance, etc. – it all adds up.

I wake up. I have everything I need within arms reach… except for the bathroom.
@kbandtheboys
That would require someone to clean it…
