My mom in Colorado planted alliums a few years ago which look like these but might not be the exact same type. She only planted them once but that is all you need to plant as they come back year after year and take over larger areas. Dried seed heads are really cool too.
I have them growing. Oddly they seemed to have mix breed with my white tulips which are now showing up purplish and some of these are showing up white.
@mikibell holland bulb farms where i get my bulbs from says they are 3 to 4 ft tall based on their descriptions. I know I am 5 ft 9 and they are about waist high. The flowers are huge and look amazing as cut flowers.
I know they have some fancy alliums (allia?) in some of the gardens I walk through in DC, but when I checked today… either they’re not doing well, or theirs are decidedly not-purple. We do have some other cute, truffulous things, however, like these…
…aptly named…
Sounds like an order number.

@Barney Hey, have you seen the new Purple mattress infomercial?

Purple mattress
@compunaut I love purple.
Reminded me of Dr. Seuss, so I googled “seuss flowers” and sure enough…
@thismyusername same here!

Oh my gosh! It’s kind of like a Truffula tree.

@CaptAmehrican are they all that big? I think my wife would love these!
@luvche21 that’s what she said!
@luvche21
They are about 2 to 3 feet high. So notice ad has a short toddler that is about right.
@CaptAmehrican There are two different types … Gigantic and tall ( or something to that effect)… Perhaps you have the tall version??

@CaptAmehrican Nice, I’ll have to look into those. We’re building a house right now and will plant the yard next spring!
There is a Japanese flower that is somewhat similar to these, so I think my wife would enjoy these a lot!
These are not recommended for my zone. It’s been a losing and expensive battle for me to try to grow bulbs here, so I’ll leave them alone.
