How come my water bottles ordered after my Fuko shipped before them
3Let’s get real here. In the order of importance, I am waiting by the door and not sleeping at night waiting for the FedEx delivery of my Fuko. But I could care less when my water bottles arrive-we have a quite a few somewhere around the house and I can live without purple water bottles (the main reason we ordered them) for a few more days.
And in case you are interested, I am not going to set up a thread on my purple water bottles being shipped nor post a picture of them when they arrive.

Have you taken a moment to think of the difference in logistics between those two orders?
what @JerseyFrank said.
@JerseyFrank I understand it takes longer to pack a box of unrelated worthless crap than 2 water bottles, but does meh understand how much they are screwing up my life waiting for the Fuko to be shipped and for me to get it.
@Felton10
Yes. They understand.
Contact Customer Service. It’s pretty obvious that @hollboll doesn’t have a thing to do right now.
@Barney I’ll remember that next time you need help with anything.

@hollboll Aww…
@hollboll
Since I’ve only bought 4 items in 2 years, I think it’s clear that the odds of my needing help are relatively low.
So… I think I should be free to make comments like the one which @Barney made due the fact that there’s no way anything could go wrong with the plan.
Excellent question.
I’ve been meaning to write up a post about this once I had better success to report but I’ll share with you a little hobby project we’ve been working on for the past several Fukobukuro events.
Ideally, for us and the community, everyone gets their Fukobukuro shipments delivered on the same day and we can all share the contents of our shipments at the same time. Fukobukuro Delivery Day is something we’ve been working towards.
We started by looking into carrier options for this and FedEx does in fact offer this as a service. I’m pretty sure it’s a similar service that you’ll see Apple use to deliver new iPhones on the same release day. The issue is that we estimated it would raises shipping costs about $10.10 per order. We didn’t want to pass this cost along to Fukobukuro “customers” nor did we want to eat an additional $10K every time we ran a Fukobukuro event.
So, instead of paying $10K per event we thought maybe we could look at historical transit times for different regions and stagger our shipments to go out on different days. Sounds so simple in concept but the actual implementation gets very complicated very quickly. I can go into some of the gritty details if anyone’s interested, but the short answer to your question is we’re working hard to try and get you your Fukobukuro on the same day as everyone else.
@shawn But… But… Half the fun is seeing what others get before I get mine. You’ll take away a lot of the good “anticipation” conversations.

@Barney Lucky for you we haven’t even come close to meeting our goals here.
@shawn What’s the matter with you guys? Don’t you have better things to do than mess up my favorite website?
@Barney Nope, I’m bored. What’s your next favorite feature?
@shawn Best of British luck to you on that. Anything coming to Jacksonville usually goes to the Ocala hub, then it takes two days to travel to the Orlando FedEx office, where it stands up, turns around and sits down in the Orlando USPO, then retraces its steps northward, and gets here 2-3 days later. If you cancelled the two-day Mouse House tickets you issue to the packages, the delivery time would be cut in half. Just saying.

/giphy "house of mouse"
@shawn Next favorite feature: Having to pay for my purchases.
@shawn
@Barney Good news for you! This is really hard. We’ve been trying for a few times and have yet to get 50% to arrive on one day. We’re mostly trying to avoid “that guy got his stuff two weeks ago and I haven’t gotten mine yet.”
(But we might as well have a goal to work towards, and “everyone gets their stuff on the same day” is that goal.)
@dave Okay, but just let me know if there’s any way I can help. I’m all thumbs.
@shawn @dave I’ll do my best to throw a tropical storm into the mix. I’ve done it twice already this month, let me stir another one up here-. Would you prefer it to hit Texas or just wander around the southeast?
@OldCatLady
I think my Meh shipments often take a similar routing on their way to MetroMess West.
Can’t begrudge them a little vacation with Mickey and Goofy, or a trip to the Eiffel Tower on the way tho, as they have to spend the rest of eternity with me and mine after they arrive.
@shawn my favorite is the circuit breaker, please don’t mess with it.
@OldCatLady The fact that you prefixed your description with “usually” means that it is perhaps predictable.
@shawn, the issue isn’t only one of target area tho and I’m curious what you are using as an indication of a package’s delivery date. Consider this:
My daughter’s (home) delivery zip is 11361 and mine is 11367. The locations are served by two different Post Offices even though they are less than four miles apart (BTW- there are two entire zip codes with their own Post Offices located between our zip codes).
Simultaneous shipments to each of us would travel together until reaching the “local” USPS Distribution Center (which used to be less than three miles from both of us in 11356 but apparently moved this Summer to 11256 because that is eight miles from me and 11 from her and thus way more efficient). This applies to the various S[.*]Post services as well as plain vanilla Parcel Post. Our packages then separate at the DC and head to our two respective Post Offices.
Her package travels the 11 miles to the 11361 PO, spends a few hours (at most) there and gets delivered, frequently the same day it left the DC and always the next (unless the next is a Sunday). Her package is marked as delivered when it is actually delivered.
My package travels the eight miles to the 11367 PO and invariably is marked as delivered within an hour, after which it spends at least one full day and possibly as many as four full days at the PO before it is actually delivered. Tho if I want to go to the PO and wait on line and ask nicely, I can get the package any time after it is marked delivered, unless it is actually being delivered: while this is happening, I cannot get it.
@baqui63

USPS
@baqui63 A while back I lived at a place served by two POs. The new large one was supposed to replace instead of supplement the old tiny one, but… I don’t know, unions or something. Anyway, I’m
completely unconvincedsure there was some rhyme or reason to it, but as far as I could tell it was totally random how mail would get to me. Wasn’t uncommon to get two USPS deliveries in one day.@baqui63 the simple solution is tell them all to deliver “not before the worst of them”
@shawn Well, if Woot! Drone Delivery is successful, maybe Meh could try something along those lines?
@shawn I am deeply interested in the nitty gritty challenges with this. I feel like you could easily get all fukus within a 3 day window, but better than that gets super hard.
I will say, living far from meh, I tend to get my packages on Monday/Tuesday. Fedex keeps my package moving cross country over the weekend, but as the hops get shorter/more local it is more likely to languish in a hub somewhere until Monday.
@MrGlass Here’s data on the past 3 attempts:
@shawn It bothers me that the legend isn’t sorted properly.
@shawn Wow, you guys weren’t kidding, were you?
@DrunkCat It bothers me that purple is such a small slice.
@shawn
If you are using USPS, some postal locations scan them “delivered” when they are received at the PO, not when they go out on a truck.
@Barney it’s only a circle bar chart, not deep philosophy, just sit back and relax
@DrunkCat yea, srsly, right? not in date order, WTF?
@baqui63 tl;dr what?
@dmlivezey Date order? Fuck no, percentage descending. #TeamPercentDescend
@shawn Impressive progress!
@DrunkCat but does it bother you more than it should?
@shawn that’s awesome! Although I wouldn’t mind a one time special fuku of $25 for vmp members only. That could make it special+! I tend to avoid meh after ordering a fuku to avoid spoilers. Although usually mine seem to be much worse than what’s posted or much better so it’s a kind of toss up if I should look at spoilers or not.
Also if you want me to report when it’s delivered. I’m probably on the edge of your delivery network especially considering if it’s delivered by usps (usually) once it hits New England it’s usually 2 more days till it’s actually in my hands.
@jbartus Way more than it should.
uh? Duh?
Santa has to pick, wrap and carefully pack each item according to the good boy or girl’s preference, and then sort according to zip code, ethnicity, racial bias… for the ENORMOUS job of packing a few hundred fuko’s
for the water bottles, it’s just:
JESUS! get that thing packed and shipped, vamanos!
(i only had one year of spanish)
@Yoda_Daenerys
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That’s 1 year more than I had.
@TickledLizard then i guess you won’t question my spanish grammar?
@Yoda_Daenerys plus, he’s a little bit preoccupied…
@Yoda_Daenerys
Only if you won’t question grammar which I use when it comes to other languages.
@hollboll i can imagine balancing all of those requires quite a bit of concentration
@TickledLizard i wouldn’t dream of it, come to think of it i don’t know how to dream in other languages anywho
/youtube dream baby dream
@growyoungagain, check it out
@Yoda_Daenerys
@TickledLizard
You never dreamt in code?
I did, now and then. It would wake me up sometimes with a serious WTF.
@Yoda_Daenerys
Thx for vid.
@f00l
I usually have dreams of what one may call a "differen"t nature.
@Yoda_Daenerys yeah, that concentration was interrupted earlier today.
@Yoda_Daenerys A real fan fav. People that Bruce has worked with a lot made the video, so it’s very well made. Thanx!!

@growyoungagain hate to admit i get a little teary eyed on each watch, long time fan, seen him 30+ times live.
/image BRUUUUUCE!!!

@hollboll that is the creepiest lollipop holder ever
@Yoda_Daenerys Like the shirt, that is one of the 400+ prints that Eric Meola took for the album cover of “Born to Run”
@growyoungagain prints? photos?
@Yoda_Daenerys oh yea, dream baby dream
@dmlivezey @Yoda_Daenerys I actually meant to say pictures.
cuz it’s not a print/photo until you develope it.
Home come you didn’t type “Why did”?
@Pavlov
it’s cuz he may be from the mid-west, or there-abouts
@Yoda_Daenerys where we all shop at K-Marts
I guess you weren’t here in the “way back when” days when it took them two weeks to ship anything out.

/image Be Thankful.
@hems79
Uphill both ways, barefoot, in the snow, even in summer?
@f00l and in the Texas heat.
Seems like an honor system is much cheaper and easier. Simply ask the community to not post, share, or open the Fuko until a selected date. Sort of like Christmas.
Or a forced honor system, simply ban anyone that post contents prior to the selected day from ordering Fukos in the future.
@MrMark i like it
@carl669 will need to check that Meh. book of rules for a “clause”.
what’s it, the mehcromium?
/giphy santa clause rules

@Yoda_Daenerys @carl669
The Mehcronomicon
@MrMark
I vote against. Because frustration is necessary to the Fuko/Fuku experience.
You got yours early. And perhaps it’s awesome. Or not. But perhaps a little teeny part of you wishes it were more awesome. So you post early to the “received” thread and gloat.
You got yours later. So you get to wait. And wait. And then, perhaps awesome. Or not. But coulda been more awesome. And you had to wait longer than other alleged humans.
Just IMHO: Everybody got compensations. Let it be.
Besides. I didn’t get one.
@TickledLizard I thought you weren’t going to correct my Spanish?
/giphy "que pasta? "

@Yoda_Daenerys
I didn’t.
You spome @Carl669-ish
@Yoda_Daenerys

/giphy "yo quiero Taco Bell"
@TickledLizard

/giphy spam

@f00l
It’s spome, not spume.
@TickledLizard
I always felt Biosphere 2 could use some champers.
/giphy champagne

@f00l @tickledlizard i thought it was correctly spelled “spammed”
@Yoda_Daenerys
Deliberate misquote for fun, simplified word choice for /image and for /Giphy.
I think they are tired today.
But

/image spammed
But I blew it. This image is better.
@f00l did you click the link above “spammed”? i wasn’t correcting words, just working the video in
@Yoda_Daenerys i know what that treadmill feels like brutha
@Yoda_Daenerys
Didn’t click thru, but should have. That vid should be posted every 1-billionth second somewhere.
No, went with Spam and Spume because the trigger was Spome.
Wanted the (I think it’s called?) assonance. The slight echo of the common “m” ending.
Too complicated for intelligibility I think.
@f00l are you calling me an assonance, or saying i have low intelligibility?
i’m indigent, and represent those remarks!!!
/image assonance intelligibility

@Yoda_Daenerys
I am suspected within my own head of being often too complicated for intelligibility
There’s lots of room there, if you want wannamove in and share.
/giphy assonance my ass

They thought you were thirsty.
@Thumperchick is @babydoll keeping you up tonight?
@dmlivezey I’m now curious if there is a user named @babydoll… To answer you, no. Miss @PuppyCat is not keeping me up tonight. I just need the extra brain space after a long, hard day of a clusterfeeding baby.
@Thumperchick lol, clusterfeeding
@Thumperchick
sadly there already is… I would have changed my name to babydoll but it is already taken.
