meh.com is about the only media i get social on.
[or should that be medium?]
Unfortunately, i just might be a little somewhat (just a skosh) tiny bit addicted to this site.
But in context, it makes sense. (It comes from a comic series trying to stay as true to a grounded reality as possible while taking place in a high-fantasy world. The reality is pretty fantastical at times, but the doses, like this picure, are sometimes quite sudden.)
@pakopako@xobzoo Furrys, I see them all the time at SciFi / Fantasy cons. it is the only time they feel safe to come out into Public without people noticing them!
@chienfou@mycya4me …but it’s a very old form; dates back to the BBS of the 1980s. In those days you had to dial-up your modem to a site. Maybe even with an acoustic coupler. But that used a landline phone handset and “kids these days” don’t even know what that is.
@chienfou@mycya4me@pmarin I cut my online teeth on Usenet back in the early 80’s.
(Some of the news groups were not unlike the meh forum. One of my favorites was misc.consumers.frugal-living.)
@chienfou@pmarin Hey I had one! an acoustic coupler, you could whistle into it & to would answer you back. When I got a 300baud direct connect modem, OMG I though I was Hot stuff. That did not last long. I then got a Hayes smart modem, a 14.4 & a 56k modem, But my phone lines would NOT support 56k! So then I had to turn to DSL, Now I have Fiber @ 1 gig. Yes I remember the BBS’s OMG I loved them. CompU"Spend", GEnie. I never did AOL, by the time it came out I no longer need the Training Wheels/ Walled Garden to protect me. those were the days, These young people don’t know what it was really like!
@Cerridwyn Why is it that all groups have tried to copy Apple/iPhone.
I remember the SamSung vs Apple lawsuit, they Lost everywhere including their own home country. I don’t think that they ever met some one with such Deep pockets.
Even Microsoft Lost to Apple in the Look/ Feel lawsuit.
The company that did NOT try to copy the “SmartPhone” was BlackBerry/ RIM, they are Now out of Biz.
Something similar happened to Kodak, They invented Digital Photography in one of their R&D labs. But sadly they would not listen to their R&D folks, That they had to switch from Film to Digital. Look now where Kodak is!
@mycya4me it actually dates for their back from that. Way before there was such a thing as an iPhone or even a MAC. Apple sue to company called Franklin and won. The Franklin was really a better product but it ran an Apple software. They didn’t like that.
@Cerridwyn@mycya4me Don’t forget Palm. Sold my house to a guy that worked there and part of the deal we got 2 early-production Palm Pilots, I think they were called.
@Cerridwyn@mycya4me Doesn’t that early Silicon Valley history boil down to “everybody stole the ideas from everybody else?” Apple mouse came from Xerox. MS-DOS came from CP/M. Product concepts like a smartphone were like “yeah but will anybody really want that?” It was a different and much simpler world then though.
Two of my guiltiest pleasures are mouthing off my train of thought and playing with impromptu stick figures (think Forky in Toy Story 4). Anywhere where I can get on a soapbox (say Meh.com) is technically considered social media these days (since it keeps me focused on shouting and less focused on, say, folding laundry).
I stopped most “social media” about 8 years ago. I even said to delete my Facebook account but surprise it’s still there! My late cat still has a Facebook account too. I do still use LinkedIn which seemed like the least sleazy of services because it connected me with old co-workers and customers. My latest update was posting my job position to “Retired” which gave me great satisfaction.
This site, yes have to come here to click the meaningless button every day. Is that a problem?
This is my main form of social media; I’m on Nextdoor but it’s super annoying in many ways, and I have Instagram just to see cool stuff that other people post.
Not addicted at all. I can quit anytime I want to.
@yakkoTDI Uh huh.
meh.com is about the only media i get social on.
[or should that be medium?]
Unfortunately, i just might be a little somewhat (just a skosh) tiny bit addicted to this site.
Is IRK withdrawal a thing?
My wife tells me the latest social media outrage. That’s as close as I care to be.
/showme cats addicted to social media
It looks like somebody forgot where the ears are on a cat. Or maybe they just forgot where headphones go.
@mycya4me
Who is going to tell them the phones are turned the wrong way way?
@xobzoo This is just a random image.
But in context, it makes sense. (It comes from a comic series trying to stay as true to a grounded reality as possible while taking place in a high-fantasy world. The reality is pretty fantastical at times, but the doses, like this picure, are sometimes quite sudden.)
@pakopako @xobzoo I’m concerned that most AI cats seem to have opposing thumbs, and when that happens it’s all over for us.
@pakopako @pmarin @xobzoo I welcome our new cat overlords!! At least until they push me off the table.
@pakopako @pmarin @xobzoo @yakkoTDI @mycya4me I saw this yesterday and it seems appropriate to post here:
Not sure who did it but it cracks me up.
@pakopako @xobzoo Furrys, I see them all the time at SciFi / Fantasy cons. it is the only time they feel safe to come out into Public without people noticing them!
I put a limit on my phone for 1 hour a day.
No Facebook, Twitter/X, Tiktok, Instagram, Snapchat, Discord etc accounts.

@chienfou but you are addicted to the MEH forums, which is a form of social media!

@mycya4me
True enough. Though that is not meh’s primary function. I veiw it as more akin to a (very) large group text string.

At least the cats are tech savvy, as they use Apple products. Instead of the inferior android.
@mycya4me
/showme an android phone eating an apple
@mediocrebot You tried

@Cerridwyn @pmarin I had a palm for many years. You should watch a film that tell about the Beginning of apple, the dealing of Bill & steve.

@pakopako @pmarin He looks so gleeful!
Never heard of it
I don’t do social media.
