Houston Trip
7My daughter is doing a quick trip to Houston for a college visit. Any recommendations on activities or restaurants? They have maybe a few hours to kill.
(And I just learned there is a button on my fancy mouse that if held down accidentally will create a whole page of duplicate topics. Cool! And thank you for the 5 minute delete window.)

I thought you were going for a front page take over.
@Barney has Texas running through her blood, she might have some recommendations.
@Ignorant Yippee ki-yay.
@Ignorant I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do it again if I tried.
Well… looks like I’ve been preparing for this post and I didn’t even know it.
VAN GOGH! MANGO! TANGO! AWESOME!
@secretlyminneso Thank You! I’ll look them all up.
@sammydog01 Across the street from the Galleria is a great camping gear, outdoor clothes, hammocks, casual shoes store and other cool odds and ends called the Whole Earth Store (it is next to the Container Store). I try to visit that store every time I am there. Also down the highway from there is Ikea.
If they have enough of time, a road trip to the ocean - Galveston (it’s on the island) - is nice. Lots of public beach. While it may or may not be warm enough to swim, walking along the ocean is nice.
Nightfall Epiphany (Much better that the Water Wall)
Cloud Column (Like the Chicago Bean… yet in Houston)
Holy person Arnold/Karbach Brewery (Beer

@f00l Cool! I had a professor that turned chemical spectroscopy into music.
If she is being hosted by students on her visit, they will know how to show her around.
@f00l That would be nice but we haven’t set that up. She is going to call the local rep on Monday. And the school isn’t in Houston, they just are flying in there and spending the night before an early morning departure.
@sammydog01
During what hours will she be there and have free time?
Will the travel arrangements include people who can offer ideas about what to do and how to get there?
If she is only in Houston for a short while, depending on time of day, getting some and rather be easy or a beast. (Traffic)
The Skyspace is open 24/7.
The Rice Campus is pretty safe around it almost all hours (at least I would think). People come all times of day and night and there are always students.
Traffic in Houston though can be a bear and it may take them way longer to get from point A to point B than they anticipate.
Near downtown is a big ass huge ferris wheel. Never been on it but I see it each time I screw up where I am driving to when I am there.
@Kidsandliz
The ferris wheel is part of the acquarium complex, which is, I think, a sort of place to hang, even at night. Open till 10 or 11 at night, I think.
I second the Kolache Factory. Also Lupe Tortilla and Beck’s Prime (better than Papas Burger IMO).
Spent a lot of time there for work so didn’t get to visit any daytime attractions.
