@DonberKon You know you can glance at a watch and see what time it is, and not have to pull out your phone, turn on the screen, and put it back in your pocket, right?
@regnowsin that’s exactly why my dad started wearing a watch again. Much handier to check the time right on your wrist than to dig a blocky phone out of your pocket, especially with dirty hands. Same reason they went from pocket watches to wristwatches in the first place!
@mwarren Yes! I can’t stand digital time for many physical and psychological reasons. Analog is much faster for me to discern to a reasonable degree of accuracy.
I bought a Hitch the last time meh offered them. Really nice watch for the money, but it is HUGE. Be sure you’re comfortable wearing a tuna can on your wrist before purchasing.
Look at that, Trench Town clock
I say don’t watch that, Trench Town clock
If you big fish or sprat, Trench Town clock
You reap what you sow, Trench Town clock
These watches are the best!!! Excellent!!! Good price!!! All OK!!! You can feel the quality!!! They are big and thick but not too heavy!!! Feels good on the wrist!!! You need a big ol’ wrist to make these seem small!!!
In for 4 in Billet Leather and of course I got VMP… it’s the best!!! Excellent!!! Good price!!!
It just so happens that the old Marley watch I was wearing has stopped working. That was the Billet Harvest, I think. Who do I need to get in touch with to have it fixed or replaced?
@Dizavid Hopefully tomorrow they’ll have a sale on clues. Be sure to buy several!

I’ve been looking into getting a watch recently and really dig the look of the fluid. Someone earlier said that it has some fancy smanchy automatic movement? In for one.
/giphy towering-harsh-mulberry
@bfalter The Billet and the Fluid are both automatics. The rest are quartz. Funny you should say it’s fancy because automatics were around way before quartz, but they are less accurate.
@TheCO2 Wearing a watch isn’t really about the utility of telling the time for the reason you just gave. However, there are still reasons to get a watch. It’s an accessory, like anything else you might wear on your wrist. If it’s an automatic, it can provide you with the wonder and amazement of having a mechanical masterpiece of precision engineering on your wrist.
@mike808 if not white hands, at least some “non-black” would be a good idea.
the Hitch & Transport are the only ones that you can actually glance at and tell what time it is.
So say I buy a self-winding watch, then it sits in a drawer for a while or something: how long until it dies and how long until I get it running again?
@jqubed Depends on the specific movement, but typically at this price range, an automatic will have a power reserve of 35-45 hours I’d say. That means that, if it’s fully wound, and you leave it sit until it quits, it will stop after 1.5-2 days, depending. As for getting it running again, several seconds (if it can also be hand wound). Maybe a minute or so additionally to set the time. I rotate through my watch collection and pick a different one every morning. Winding and setting is like a ritual.
BTW, it isn’t bad for the watch to start and stop a lot, it won’t harm the movement.
I’d buy one of the self-winding ones if they weren’t black arms on black faces. And I’m the guy who let his watch battery die and then left the watch on his bureau for four ye-uhhhhh nine months, so battery-powered is a bad idea for me.
C’mon the reason the thing is so big is because it has a secret compartment for weed. You pull out the winding pin that converts to a one hitter. The watch part doesn’t even work- it’s there just for show.
@chienfou We thought he would learn when we sent him to UC Boulder, that and how to read or write in cursive. I can hear it now “what is this thing without any ports? Where’s the HDMI”
Yeah, ever try to explain “clockwise” to someone that is only familiar with digital timepieces…?
@chienfou, the Earth’s rotation can be a reference too:
Most people can figure out which way the Earth spins when they consider where the sun rises and sets
From there, deduce how the shadow of a vertical stick/post moves around the stick
Finally, assign names to those spin directions:
In the northern hemisphere, the shadow moves “clockwise” around the stick while the Earth rotates “counterclockwise” when viewed looking down at the north pole;
Southern hemisphere locations see the shadow move “counterclockwise” and the Earth spins “clockwise” when looking down at the south pole.
@Mr_Chompers_ You can buy other automatics for <$200, sometimes less than $150, and they certainly can look better than these. Look up Seiko SKX007. Also check out brands like Citizen and Orient.
@DonberKon Thanks for the response, I actually have an SKX007 and quite a few other automatic watches.
I wouldn’t say the Marley’s were great looking automatics, but it would be nice to get a chance to actually buy one, you know? It’s not really helpful to us east coasters if our “opportunity” to purchase is completely sold out of some models. We’re not really getting a fair opportunity.
Plus who wants to wait around for midnight to find out what the new Meh is, then find out it’s horrible. Not a good use of time.
@darksiderising this is not an expensive watch, but I’d agree they’re overpriced for what you are getting. Except for maybe the autos, it depends which specific movement they use, but that’s a pretty good price for a mechanical.
Ion plating uses concurrent or periodic bombardment of the substrate,
and deposits film by atomic-sized energetic particles. Bombardment
prior to deposition is used to sputter clean the substrate surface.
@username Jesus God, hardly anybody used Tritium or Radium anymore. They use compounds that are charged by sunlight in the daytime and glow in the dark at night. C3 Superluminova, for example, or BGW9, or Lumibrite.
Got the billet auto, and it looks very nice, but goddamn cannot tell where the hands are.
Expected to be more of a “fashion” piece then a timepiece, so not disappointed, but still, basically unreadable.

Watch this sale tonight - it’s about time don’t you think?
Doesn’t come with a cord to charge it every night. Why the face?
you know phones have clocks in them now, right? a hearty meh.
@boygenius1991 you suck
@DonberKon You know you can glance at a watch and see what time it is, and not have to pull out your phone, turn on the screen, and put it back in your pocket, right?
@regnowsin It’s impossible to be discreet about checking the time if you don’t wear a watch.
@boygenius1991 Great information thanks.
Side note, grown ups wear a watch
@boygenius1991 Really? Mine doesn’t.
/image princess phone
@regnowsin that’s exactly why my dad started wearing a watch again. Much handier to check the time right on your wrist than to dig a blocky phone out of your pocket, especially with dirty hands. Same reason they went from pocket watches to wristwatches in the first place!
@boygenius1991 Its more or less a fashion piece, solid buy for me (except the ones I like are out)
How about those of us who wear smartwatches and keep them charged every day or week or so?
no digital? no care!
@clonetek no know how to read analog?
Reading an analog watch is faster; it involves interpreting just one large “symbol” (the two hands form one symbol).
Reading a digital watch takes longer because it requires interpreting three or four much smaller symbols; however, it does offer better precision.
Most of the time an intuitive, quick read of analog hands provides all of the detail I need. Analog watches FTW!
@mwarren Yes! I can’t stand digital time for many physical and psychological reasons. Analog is much faster for me to discern to a reasonable degree of accuracy.
We’re watchin’
I want to watch it with you
We’re watchin’, watchin’
And I hope you like watchin’ too
@gyozilla nicely done.
megameh ! – them is all F’n ugly !
/image Groundhog Day
I finally hit a 90-day streak of meh-clicks. I went 89 days early on, and have failed to break that record several times since.
/image we are the champions
@gcanyon
@gcanyon my record is 118 then I got 111 about two Saturdays ago I failed to click now I am back to less than 20 ugh.
I bought a Hitch the last time meh offered them. Really nice watch for the money, but it is HUGE. Be sure you’re comfortable wearing a tuna can on your wrist before purchasing.
@escapecar Thanks for the heads up. Considered buying this, but I would have been ticked. I hate over-sized watches.
Look at that, Trench Town clock
I say don’t watch that, Trench Town clock
If you big fish or sprat, Trench Town clock

These watches are the best!!! Excellent!!! Good price!!! All OK!!! You can feel the quality!!! They are big and thick but not too heavy!!! Feels good on the wrist!!! You need a big ol’ wrist to make these seem small!!!
In for 4 in Billet Leather and of course I got VMP… it’s the best!!! Excellent!!! Good price!!!
@cshillaber this review is amazing!!! good words!!! so concise!!!
@thismyusername and so low-key and understated!!
Do people still wear watches?
@rv617 Only those above your pay grade.
@jetkins
Water resistant to 50m?
Forget it.
I need water resistance to 165 ft.
@daveinwarsh
Ya mon, guess wat da expiration of ma plastic be…4-20 mon!
Looks like the Fluid has a Japanese Miyota automatic movement which, for the price, is truly a steal.
@nerderousrage quit tempting me.
@nerderousrage Any auto mechanical movement for this price is a steal.
@nerderousrage In! dumb-curvy-direction
@nerderousrage Is the Billet movement the same? I’m curious in case they come up again.
$10 more and I have to have the watch wind itself? meh!
Unimpressed :-\
Wait. How does this connect via Bluetooth… Oh…
@mothmer It’s also severely lacking a drone/quadcopter functionality. Perhaps it’s a powerbank of some sort.
@lxlx Maybe it comes with a knife.

I really like the looks of these, but I can’t see buying a watch, as I haven’t worn one since I got my first cell phone.

It’s an accessory, like anything else you might wear on your wrist. @DonberKon You are just trying to get me to buy a watch; aren’t you? It almost worked.
SMH, House of Marley. If you make watches with dark/black faces, #WhiteHandsMatter.
Designing for unfunction is not cool or good design.
Utter Meh.
@mike808 if not white hands, at least some “non-black” would be a good idea.
the Hitch & Transport are the only ones that you can actually glance at and tell what time it is.
@mike808 two words for you today… Woot.watch Happy now?
Patek Philippe tastes. House of Marley budget.

@harveydanger many quartz watches use solar panels in the dial to charge the battery
Haters gonna hate, in for one Martial Leather Pulse because I’m an edgelord. /giphy mad-quarrelsome-blueberry
“I always feel like somebodys watching me” whoa oh oh!!
@growyoungagain Forgot an apostrophe! whoa oh oh!!
@PhotoJim Yeah’s, so what. Now go along and correct elsewhere.
mentionable-uninviting-lemur
First meh buy and I’ve been looking for black watch!
women beware! if you like the white one, it’s huge
so if you like huge watches, this one is for you
@Yoda_Daenerys that’s the first time anyone has ever warned a woman about the white one being huge.
@75Blazer
@Yoda_Daenerys Oh, so it’s a McDonald’s watch?
@TheCO2 ummm, me thinks you bespeak a funny, be me no sure
no more fluid auto?? ㅠㅠ
Meh, in the specs you listed them all having the 3-hand Japanese quartz movement. I thought 2 of them are automatic mechanical. FIX YO SHIT
Is the Canvas watch the size of a tuna can as well?
C’mon the reason the thing is so big is because it has a secret compartment for weed. You pull out the winding pin that converts to a one hitter. The watch part doesn’t even work- it’s there just for show.
@gak0090 An unwound watch is right twice a day.
I would like to teach my 22 year old son how to tell time, but you’re all sold out of the self winding ones.
@parker3 Yeah, ever try to explain “clockwise” to someone that is only familiar with digital timepieces…?
@chienfou We thought he would learn when we sent him to UC Boulder, that and how to read or write in cursive. I can hear it now “what is this thing without any ports? Where’s the HDMI”
@chienfou, the Earth’s rotation can be a reference too:
@mwarren …and at the equator?
Only one left is the tuna can. Meh.
@DennisG2014 Circuit breaker???
@chienfou Huh?
@DennisG2014 see this link
@DennisG2014 A Seiko? I have a SBBN007
this guy bought them all.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Wristwatches/31387/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=gearxs
Are you holding any of these back for VMP members?
What a bunch of BS!!! The automatics were friggin all sold out when it restarted for the east coast. We always get screwed.
@Mr_Chompers_ You can buy other automatics for <$200, sometimes less than $150, and they certainly can look better than these. Look up Seiko SKX007. Also check out brands like Citizen and Orient.

More men’s crap, meh.
This just tells me how marked up and overpriced this watch (and many like it) are.
@darksiderising this is not an expensive watch, but I’d agree they’re overpriced for what you are getting. Except for maybe the autos, it depends which specific movement they use, but that’s a pretty good price for a mechanical.
What on earth is “ion-plated steel?”
Oh, wait, found it…
CRYSTAL CLEAR NOW.
@rprussell Bombardment of the substrate? Atomic energetic particles?
whats with black arms on black dial?
really considered auto ones for a second, but they are not practical.
@ meh buyers, scope some decent utility watches, something with Tritium Illumination
@username Jesus God, hardly anybody used Tritium or Radium anymore. They use compounds that are charged by sunlight in the daytime and glow in the dark at night. C3 Superluminova, for example, or BGW9, or Lumibrite.
Got some questions…
Does this have blutooth speaker capability? Can I charge my phone with it? If not, why’s it on meh?
@eeterrific Maybe you missed the fact that these watches are baby arm compatible?!?!
@eeterrific because its actually a knife.
Got the billet auto, and it looks very nice, but goddamn cannot tell where the hands are.
Expected to be more of a “fashion” piece then a timepiece, so not disappointed, but still, basically unreadable.
It is big. But not too big. If you want I can send you an image of me wearing it.
Anyone on this thread figure out how to change the battery on the quartz watches? Can’t get the back off.
