I've got 2 already - they're good but not getting a third. The ionizer works, produces a dust residue around it if the room is dusty. Plenty of economical replacement filter options depending on your needs.
I bought this last time it was up. It's perfectly cromulent and I have enjoyed having it. Settings 1 and 2 are super quiet, setting 3 is quite loud and makes a great white noise machine/sound dampener. When it's loud outside or in the rest of my house, I crank it up and sleep like a baby. A whooshy, windy, purified baby.
I have thought about getting one of these to help with my breathing (as opposed to using a ceiling fan the whole time). The description says 10 X 11 foot rooms but my room is more like 13X13. Is this machine too small?
America's Test Kitchen did a test on baking soda in the fridge as a deodorizer. In theory, works. In theory. Box absorbs enough funk so it smells funny after 30 days, so when you remove it to throw it away and give it a quick sniff, you think it works. But there's just no way for a significant portion of the relatively stationary air in a fridge to cycle through the Arm and Hammer box. So there was zero measurable effect on the fridge air. Zero.
Same deal with these. You'll see dust in the filter and think it's working. But it's trapping 0.01% of the actual dust in the room.
Think about it like this. It's the leaf blower vs the vacuum cleaner. You can stand in one spot and clear a good sized circle around you with a leaf blower. But stand in the middle of a field with a vacuum cleaner and see how well it works. You gotta go after the dirt with the vacuum. So unless you can somehow mount an air purifier to a Roombot and then mount the Roombot to a drone, it's going to cleansify a drop in the bucket.
@MehnofLaMehncha I have been researching air purifier for months. I just broke down and purchased 3 of the swiss air. They sell out at a store before they are in stock every week. My daughter and I have bad allergies. These are the only ones approved by American Lung Association.
@Mellaine The IQAir purifiers deserve their excellent reputation, but are very pricey. They don't always come out ahead in a very extensive performance test of air purifiers, so for many people, purifiers from other vendors will produce better results while saving a ton of money.
@trisk Thank you. I think you might be right because my allergist told me to get any purifier that has hepa. Do you recommend the one from the link. I might call the store tomorrow and tell them to deliver 1 not 3. They are really expensive. My house has small particles floating in the air. Do you know if duct cleaning works?
@Mellaine The BlueAir, Rabbit Air, Sharp, Winix, and Coway did the best in the tests at removing both fine and coarse particles. Those would be the best choices for reducing allergens. The article recommends Coway as the least expensive of the bunch, though Winix is also often discounted on Amazon so that's worth looking at as well.
I own a Sharp and Winix myself, mostly to take care of cat dander.
In general if your house has a problem with airborne particles, air purifiers have a limited radius in which they are effective. Always remember to change filters on things that move more air, like your air conditioner, combined with regular vacuuming and keeping doors and windows properly shut.
@trisk Thank you so much. I did not get the $850 swiss air thanks to you. I am going to have my air ducts cleaned but I want to read the article you sent me tonight. I vacuum almost everyday and have changed my filters, that is why I went crazy and had to buy the most expensive one. I have 3 cats and 2 dogs so I am sure that is part of all the particles floating in the air. Thank you so very much. Can I buy your next meh purchase?
@Ken_M Unfortunately, I am am not living outside 24 hours a day. Plus there are pollen alerts and high ozone levels when you should not go outside. I would not want to breath the air in LA all day or when it is -20 out. People do not work outside all day. Let me know when you figure out how to breath the air outside for 24 hours. I just looked this up. http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20490855,00.html
I do agree with you because I am a huge outdoors person who loves camping, hiking, climbing the highest peaks and all the adventure clean air places but I am not the average person who stays inside. Researchers found that trees and forests in the US removed 17.4 million tons of air pollution, with human health effects valued at $6.8 billion in 2010. I am told I am a tree hugger many times and I will never live in a city. Here is another link https://www.treepeople.org/resources/tree-benefits http://www.lung.org/our-initiatives/healthy-air/outdoor/air-pollution/ Thanks, I am getting outside now. I live in the woods. People need to be more aware of what we are doing to this earth.
I bought 3 of these last time. They are fantastic...very well made! I have one in a 15x10 sitting room where my dogs hang out (one of them is a gaseous Boston Terrier--or at least that's my story, & I'm sticking to it), and it really made the air fresher!

A Pure deal tonight ! So this deal is a a breath of well ---fresh air !
@AttyVette Right on, Holmes!
I bought this last time it was up. It's perfectly cromulent and I have enjoyed having it.

@PDX1978 Cromulent, indeed, your comment was.
@PDX1978 one of my favorite episodes
How about humidifier like Vick V750 or equivalent?
Have one of these. It's worth the twenty five bucks.
jiggly-sharp-pin
if I hook twenty of these up will they strip the flesh from a duck skull? asking for a friend
@Lotsofgoats Is that a euphemism for masturbation?
@awk
What isn't a euphemism for masturbation?
@MehnofLaMehncha Boning your mom.
you guys are yucky
Been there, done that (like the day before Christmas last year.. same price too).
Highly recommend
Hooked mine up to a small generator, backed up with solar panels, and mounted to a Radio Flyer, so I can breath clean air everywhere I go
Not dead yet, so it must be working.
I have thought about getting one of these to help with my breathing (as opposed to using a ceiling fan the whole time). The description says 10 X 11 foot rooms but my room is more like 13X13. Is this machine too small?
@JT954 yes! get 2

@MehnofLaMehncha Air cleaners aren't a replacement for vacuuming but they do remove what gets airborne that could've been breathed in instead.
I have a 105# doggie. There'd be a whooooooole lot more dander floating around my house if it weren't for air cleaners.
@MehnofLaMehncha I have been researching air purifier for months. I just broke down and purchased 3 of the swiss air. They sell out at a store before they are in stock every week. My daughter and I have bad allergies. These are the only ones approved by American Lung Association.
LInk http://www.iqair.com/healthpro-series-air-purifiers/buy The Holmes are a great price for hepa. Only get hepa air purifiers.
@Mellaine These are not real HEPA. They are HEPA type, which is their way of making you think it's a genuine HEPA filter when it isn't.
@madoka I did that once before when it said hepa type. My dr. said get only hepa. I did not even catch that. Thanks
@Mellaine The IQAir purifiers deserve their excellent reputation, but are very pricey. They don't always come out ahead in a very extensive performance test of air purifiers, so for many people, purifiers from other vendors will produce better results while saving a ton of money.

@trisk now I am confused. You might have saved me a ton of money and perfect timing. Tomorrow would have been too late.

@Mellaine Dust trapped in your air ducts isn't likely to go airborne again, so you probably won't see any benefits from cleaning unless you have a problem like mold growth in there. I'll defer to this nice article from the EPA on things to watch out for in your ducts.
In general if your house has a problem with airborne particles, air purifiers have a limited radius in which they are effective. Always remember to change filters on things that move more air, like your air conditioner, combined with regular vacuuming and keeping doors and windows properly shut.

There it is.
The first line had me spit up my beer (fare the well Société Pupil). Holmes is my sisters married name, Humphrey is her maiden name.
@phb yesssss
Cheap shot at a joke.
More like cheap hit at a joke!
BADUM TSHHHHHHH
@legendornothing
@legendornothing
I don't need no stinking Air Purifier !
Yeah. I always wanted to fill my house with ozone so that my skin and lung cells could suffer cell death.
Now for $20 I can.
God made the air we breathe and us to enjoy it. We are all pure in his eyes. Healthy activities are all you need.
@Ken_M the real KenM would realize it is hard to troll a community of trolls. :)
@Ken_M OMG !
The air outside is clean and there are no "purifiers" outside. Someone should wise up.
