Hey, that's funny.
18So, earlier today I had charged up my phone. Yes, sometimes I do let it out of its nightstand drawer. Anyway, I forgot about it and had left it on my bed’s bookcase headboard.
Tonight I was watching the Super Bowl (Go Chiefs!) and the Google commercial with the elderly gentleman remembering his wife Loretta came on. In it he said, “Show me photos of me and Loretta.”
My phone Google heard that and thought that he said, “Show me photos of being Loretta.” and answered, “I’ve got some images for you.”
So, I got to see pictures of Loretta Lynn."
The commercial was sad, but I thought this was funny.

@narfcake Don’t worry, it is now safe to come to my house. I’ve wrapped the phone in cotton and have replaced it in the nightstand drawer. Google will not be eavesdropping on us.
@Barney @narfcake No, you need to wrap it in foil.
/youtube foil Weird Al
@narfcake @sammydog01 I’ll also hand out tinfoil hats to everyone.
CHIEFS WIN! YAAAAAAY!!
@Barney congrats!!! Happy you get to celebrate the win

@tinamarie1974 Yeah, I couldn’t wait 50 more years for another Super Bowl win.
@Barney @tinamarie1974
Eat your heart out, @mfladd, wherever you may be. (I do hope you are okay.)
Oooooh, @tinamarie1974, there is a Super Bowl Champions T-shirt in a woman’s v-neck. They were showing it on TV.
@Barney i SAW that! It was pretty cute. You gonna get one??
@tinamarie1974 Hahaha, I don’t have anything to show off.
@Barney come on, I bet I could give you cleavage. A few “chicken cutlets” and some shading and BOOM, cleavage!
@tinamarie1974 I just lost 20 pounds and I think it was all in my boobs, so you’re going to need to do a lot of shading.
@Barney I got you!
And congrats on the weight loss. That is awesome!
@tinamarie1974 Thanks, no more sugar (well, just a little), no more junk food, and no more booze. All of my fun food is gone. My doctor says that I am now normal. THIS is what normal is?
@Barney aawww, but you know it will be worth it in the end. Stay strong
@tinamarie1974 And no more v-necks?
@Barney @tinamarie1974
But… was it purple…???
purple loves @barney.
@chienfou They were gray with the Chiefs colors.
We all have to make sacrifices at times.
@Barney nah, you can still rock it!
@tinamarie1974 I’ll need a lot of cotton padding. Or tinfoil.
@Barney @tinamarie1974 Have you tried batteries…?
@shahnm @tinamarie1974 If they are fresh out of the refrigerator, they’ll be way too cold. I don’t need to contract pneumonia.
@Barney @tinamarie1974 That just adds some perkiness!
@tinamarie1974 You are incorrigible.
@Barney Thank you!
@tinamarie1974 Uh, nice v-neck.
@Barney @chienfou @tinamarie1974 No, it wasn’t in purple, and never will be in purple, because my Vikings are perennial “just abouts”…
purple loves @barney.

That is fun, but ya know, you can turn that off right?
setttings > Google > Account Services > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant.
flip the “listen for ‘hey google’” to off.
@thismyusername Your phone still listens and transmits to the NSA data center in Colorado. It just pretends it doesn’t hear you.
@thismyusername And I turn mine off as one of the first things I do when I get a new phone. It’s not that much more effort for me to press the microphone button on the screen when I need it. I don’t want it constantly listening and wasting my battery.
If the NSA has nothing better to do than listen to me, they must have a boring job.
Those dang TV commercials that kept saying, “It’s Alexa compatible” kept activating my devices around the house. I eventually changed the wake word to “Echo” and the problem mostly went away. It still happens when someone says Echo but that’s less frequent.
When the wake word is Echo, it still activates for 1/2 second whenever I cough. Don’t know why because that cough sounds nothing like the wake word.
@cengland0 Sounds like a great idea for a Meh (er, Mercatalyst) poll:
What is the “safe word” for your IoT/SmartDevices?
Let the hilarity ensue. Disclaimer: For entertainment purposes only, since this is akin to asking “What’s your favorite password? Post here!”
@mike808 Here’s an SNL skit about Alexa responding to almost anything for old people. “Alexa Silver” edition. Funny.
