Hey @narfcake! Tee turtle octopi on the Treasure Truck!
5@narfcake:
Amazon is featuring super cute octopi from TeeTurtle on today’s treasure truck
https://www.amazon.com/tt/webview/howitworks
And since they’re super cute I like to look at them!
Locally in N Texas, I think you can get them at truck stop/BBQ Places run by “Texas Best”

So cute, but so expensive!
@Kyeh
I think the TeeTurtle site runs specials.
Also, I think they are cheaper at that chain of Texas Best BBQ/Truck Stop locations that carry them.
I noticed they seemed expensive at Amazon.
@f00l @Kyeh They run sales every once in a while, and a site-wide sale around Black Friday and their anniversary, which is in February.
@f00l @Kyeh Speaking of sales, until 9/29/21.
@f00l @narfcake Oh wow! Thanks!
@Kyeh @narfcake
Thx!
They’re selling a lot on both their own site and on Amazon, so I’m not surprised to see them on the treasure truck. It may be an awkward day if any ends up on Woot, though. As noted in the writeup, Ramy started Teeturtle after shirt.woot switched from American Apparel to Anvil.
As for the octopi being available at truck stops, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the knockoffs.
@narfcake
The ones I saw said “TeeTurtle” on them, if I remember. Next time I pass a local store/restaurant, I’ll check.
Texas Best is the sort of BBQ/truck stop chain that sells a ton of cute things.
@f00l Those are knockoffs. I’m not seeing any tags, which would have been sewn in. Has all the US CPSIA/CPSC mandatory information and PA registration. They went through all the legal rounds to have these certified.
(It’s also why all the cries for Irk plushies will not come cheap, as testing/certification will cost $$$. The sellers of knockoffs DGAF because if it get caught, they figure the worst that can happen is the goods get confiscated. Their actual legal ramifications are minimal as they just claim “well, I bought it from some distributor. I didn’t know.”)
@narfcake
Next time I’m near an outlet I’ll check for tags.
So sad if knockoffs. I presume now that you’re right about that.
@narfcake
You know, I hadn’t thought that TeeTurtle would be a brand big enough to catch the attention of the knockoff manufacturers.
Guess TeeTurtle is more visible than I realized;
and I guess I’m quite naive about the “originals vs counterfeits” industry practices.
@f00l They’ve grown quite big, with 80+ staff nowadays. Office and warehouse are still in the St. Louis area, though I believe many of their artists are at the Denver office nowadays.
On treasure truck (just signed up today, never heard of it before) is it same as meh, where you can only see today’s deal and can’t search past deals?
@Star2236
You may find mention of past deals from the Amazon treasure truck on slickdeals.net or some other deal tracker
I don’t know if camel camel camel records those prices. Camel camel camel doesn’t pick up some prices from Amazon
Camelx3 doesn’t pick up prices for any digital item; so it doesn’t carry prices for any audible audiobook or Kindle ebook, or any Amazon instant video item. Or for MP3s.
I think camel camel camel also doesn’t pick up prices that are restricted to prime members or similar, such as all the price drops during prime day
Incidentally, prime day is a kinda non-competitive environment (though they do have some great prices here and there): it’s only for the prime members, and other retailers compete a little here and there but not really.
I’ve seen Amazon have the pattern of unloading on prime day last year’s inventory of very expensive or desirable brands, instead of putting a great sale on the current generation.
For Amazon’s best prices on stuff that everybody wants, I think Black Friday week, and then the period between that and January 1st, are by far the best
Then, they’re competing against every other retailer, including stores run by a name brand.
As for Amazon treasure truck prices, I’ve seen them be amazing, and I’ve seen them be “yawn”; so price discounts vary by day and item.
What the treasure truck promo is great at is spotlighting a particular item that might not be on everyone’s radar
And it’s almost always something that’s classy and quality of its kind
@f00l @Star2236
Oh look treasure truck
Discounted or weird products
Woot back in the day
