I take into consideration certain things when buying some stuff.
Sure, I had no qualms paying $110 out of pocket for a $550 mid-level laptop 3 years ago, $110 for my LG G Watch, then $150 a year later for my Huawei Watch, and $120ish for my Nexus 5, but thats because those things have constant use (well not my G Watch anymore), but if I get this shirt, it would just end up like my Stack Overflow T-shirt
Kinda strange that I'm hesitant to shell out almost $30 for a T-shirt when i think about it. Then again, possibly not really.
@lisaviolet @FroodyFrog @joelmw The glow in the dark thing is the temptation. But glow in the dark shirts from evil.woot.com sell for prices that don't cause a spit-take.
Great shirt, but what makes these guys so speshul?
@f00l My last six shirts or so all have Meh. on them. So, I'm due for something speshul. Maybe I'll actually leave the house when it's dark. Maybe not. I mean, I resist leaving when it's light....
I'd do it if I were single too. Probably even get one for the kid.
Part of the consideration for me is the chances one takes with sizing and fabric. I generally like the 3Xes I've purchased from meh, but I'd say 60% of them are shorter than I'd like and a few are so short I won't wear them (yes, all 3X). And I need either super soft or sturdy, thick, but not scratchy. I have strong feelings about t-shirts. I have two t-shirts I purchased nine years ago that I've tried in vain to replace (the feel is perfect and the fit is good); they're pretty much the only thing I wear around the house (or as bedwear when I'm away from home). I still regret that I didn't just get a dozen of them, though I think the ones I got were the only two in my side (they were clearance at Dick's).
I know they have measurements, but I'm not even sure what to think of the fact that they go to 5X. It's so hard to tell without direct experience how something will wear and how it will wash, etc.
And tall, why the fuck do so few places sell talls? I have a bit of a belly, but mostly what I want is some length, damnit.
So, yeah, it's not worth taking a chance at $30 a pop, not for me at least.
Thanks for the shout out, but I'm passing. Bottom note says "this shirt does not glow in the dark."
Secondly, I have no idea what blanks they use. Any shirt.woot regular knows how much I kvetch about Anvil already, and they're not near the worst as it is.
Thirdly, the price.
Fourthly ... is how many copies of Schrödinger's Cat shirts that I still have from TeeTurtle (but are no longer available). And those do glow in the dark.
Shirt.woot has spoiled me. Although long past, $10 shipped for shirts with original designs by artists whom are well compensated for their work and printed on American Apparel blanks raised the bar on value. Even now, $15-19 shipped is still an excellent price, and in an era of almost everything being imported, made in the USA was -- and still is -- a big factor in my purchasing.
Did I buy elsewhere that used imported blanks? Yes. Before becoming a print-on-demand site, Design by Humans was another place I bought a good number of shirts from. Likewise, I also bought a good number of shirts from GoodJoe. DBH mostly used Next Level Apparel blanks, GoodJoe used Cygnus and in the later days AA blanks. I was already turned off by the "sourced from whereever" that Threadless was..
Shirt.woot's move to Anvil in February 2012 was a huge slap and struck me as a money grab, as it happened just a month after increasing the daily price to $12. As I've found out later, Ramy started TeeTurtle the next day.
There was a "grammar thread" incident in between there; I'm not reiterating what happened, but it was only after that settled in which I started buying from TeeTurtle. I think about half of my purchases are designs by guest artists. I've notice they have trended away from pop culture in recent months, which I don't mind at all. Cutesy is my counter to my serious day job - designing fire protection and life safety systems.
@FroodyFrog I think the Blink is the best of the lot too. Disappointed that there aren't any Schrödinger tees in there. Now that I know it's out there, that's the kind I want the most.
Boots' pic in this post is especially helpful in showing what you'll get with the current standard Anvils. Further down, I posted a comparison in which a men's XL Anvil has shrunken to a shorter length than a 6 year old men's small AA shirt.
@narfcake, I searched for the designer of the shirt from the Quertee site, there's a facebook page, I posted about the shirt on teespring, the guy selling on teespring has stolen the design.
Looks like fun.
Ugh, only 1 day left to decide.
@FroodyFrog It said that same thing yesterday.
@lisaviolet
At the bottom it says available until the 15th.
@lisaviolet @FroodyFrog We're cheap bastards, aren't we? I mean we. I can't pull the trigger either. I've bought a few too many things lately.

I would buy one, but did you see the pricing? Gawd!
@f00l
What do you think is stopping me? ;)
It's about the same price as I paid for several polo shirts combined, recently from Amazon.
@f00l I thought the same thing, but then my inner child screamed "yeah, but GLOW IN THE DARK!!!!"
@lisaviolet @f00l
Glow in the dark stuff is always awesome.
Thankfully the standard glowing shade of green isn't the only option which is available.
@lisaviolet

@FroodyFrog Be still my heart!
I would so TOTALLY do this if I was single.

Speshul can be good!

@joelmw My boys have similar shirt challenges. Buy from Duluth Trading. Their long tail Ts are awesome. If you can catch them on sale, even better.
@cwolfpack3 Thanks for the tip!

@narfcake Well, that's confusing....

@narfcake
Totally missed that.
Thankfully, this one not only glows in the dark, but, is also cheaper:
https://www.qwertee.com/product/schrodinger-night
Only downside for most people, is that it's only available in a Men's small. Good thing that's exactly what I need.
@FroodyFrog Not me.
@lisaviolet I'm viewing this on my phone, so maybe that's why it's different? In any case, I'm still passing.
@FroodyFrog Check the sizing charts! Qwertee is out of the UK, and the blanks are made in I-have-no-idea-where-because-it's-not-on-the-tag.
@narfcake
Ugh.
Change of plan.
I look on TeeTurtle later. (I don't fully like the mobile version of the site)
http://www.teeturtle.com/products/grim-kitty
@narfcake contacted teespring. They do not have glow in the dark paint. Seller reported. Order cancelled.
I'm so glad you were paying attention.
@FroodyFrog
I'd jump on Quertee if they had sizes. Take a risk on qual and fit.
M-S only. WTF?
@lisaviolet I'm glad they're responsive, at least!
(Just adding in the pic of the aforementioned shirt.)
@narfcake
Theoretical q:
Probabilistically speaking, how many copies of Schrödinger's Cat are there?
Not shirts, now. Cats.
Tho the shirt q also has merit.
I got this one in a rando pack for my daughter.
I shined a laser pointer on it to quick charge the glow ink then into the closet we went. Her little mind was nearly blown.
I thought this glow kitteh was cool, but it never printed.
Story time now:

I stopped looking after the last design was offered on AA closed, only to be sucked back in with purple.

@lisaviolet @FroodyFrog @f00l @joelmw:
Catshirtswoot has a glow-in-the-dark side sale this week. Some cat-free designs are included too.
http://shirt.woot.com/plus/get-your-glow-on-1
As usual, I recommend AA if the sizing works out.
@narfcake
Some of these have been on my watch list for a while.
I especially like Blink and You're...
@narfcake
Thx so much for arranging for me to spend $.
@f00l
@narfcake probably gets a commission. ;)
@FroodyFrog I think the Blink is the best of the lot too. Disappointed that there aren't any Schrödinger tees in there. Now that I know it's out there, that's the kind I want the most.
@joelmw Yeah, I want that one, too.
@FroodyFrog Negative. If you want to spread some of it around, though, buy it via wootstalker.com; @lichme will appreciate it.
@joelmw @lisaviolet Good luck convincing @ACraigL to do a Schrödinger's Cat design the next GITD derby. Because he loooooooooves catshirts. :)
@narfcake
Which has generally more accurate sizing? AA or Standard?
I'm thinking about getting Blink and You're...
@FroodyFrog AA by far. Read this thread.
Boots' pic in this post is especially helpful in showing what you'll get with the current standard Anvils. Further down, I posted a comparison in which a men's XL Anvil has shrunken to a shorter length than a 6 year old men's small AA shirt.

@lisaviolet Sadly, why am I not surprised. :(
