I’ve always assumed it was the same island as was used in Lost, which (as was conveniently added in later seasons to desperately try to make some sense of the plot) was capable of moving through time and space as convenient for the show-runners. So they just ran into it when it had wandered within 41.5 miles of shore.
@stolicat That would explain a lot - like why no one found them, or how Ginger’s outfits always looked brand new, or how Gilligan never seemed to learn anything. Gilligan, the dark version
But what about the storm? How long did it last? How strong was the wind?
Does anyone else remember that episode where they figure out how to get off the island and Gilligan screws it up?
@mg2175 I thought that was ALL the episodes?

(I wish, probably some gas V8s)
