@jsh139 I did an Ironman a couple years back and challenged my co-workers to simulate the length and boredom I was going through by getting up at 6:00 a.m., start watching the extended edition of "Fellowship", and then continue all the way through the EEs of "Towers" and "King," finishing up 10-11 hours later. No breaks, no simultaneous websufring or other distractions, 1 brief trip to the bathroom permitted after each movie, food limited to a handful of energy bars and a bag of pretzels, etc. No one took me up on it. Jerks.
Forgot about the Bakshi one. Might go into a revisit Bakshi phase, been a while... Fritz of course, Wizards, etc. Mighty Mouse was must see Saturday hangover fodder. Yes I'm old-ish.
Never could stand the cartoon version (okay, animated .. but still cartoonish) but all my pot puffing friends went ga-ga over it (small wonder considering what they were doing at the time). Love the live versions though. Seems more realistic and I don't have to listen to Glenn Yarbrough's euphonious blathering.
I really need to see "Have Gun, Will Travel"... I binged watched LOR 1-3 for the first time I have ever seen LOR and I think sitting there for 15 hours ruined LOR for me. (15 hours may be slightly exaggerating, but I know at least one was the extended version)
i have never seen any of the Peter Jackson flicks. as a fanboy of other franchises, i don't want to poop on someone's obsession, but... I just don't get the attraction.
once some friends tried to make me watch the first one...I was fast asleep within 30 minutes. They Tried again a few weeks later, same result...
@earlyre I think it's an acquired taste. Having grown up reading the books I was ecstatic when the movies came out. It's like anything else. Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, etc. You have to like fantasy/adventure stuff.
@bluedyn Not even King Kong. @jsh139 see it's star wars, and star trek that i grew up on. along with Transformers. but some things i could never get into. BSG for instance, tried to watch the recent version when it first came on....never clicked with me.(and i really wanted to like it, as my older brother was a big fan of the original)
@tightwad you might think that until you get to the parts with Tom Bombadil, then every page will feel like it takes hours to read. Worst character in any book ever written.
@JonT Clearly you haven't read enough books. The two main characters in Gone Girl are easily worse, because they're the stars of the book and they're both bastards.
@bluedyn I haven't read Gone Girl yet, but I loved the movie. Tom Bombadil is much worse than both. It's not because he does bad things, it's because he's the most annoying, terrible character. I literally quit reading Fellowship of the Ring because I couldn't get past the first Tom Bombadil part.
@JonT Tom was a dope, but he didn't keep me from reading the book. The jerks in Gone Girl did make me quit reading about halfway through. I skimmed to the end in the hope that she was dead.
I'd have run 26.2 miles to see the LOTR movies back in the day.

@unkabob Had to look him up, didnt think he was related to Glen. Definitely ewwphonyus though.
@mehjohnson.. yether...
Yeah, you can omit Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy from any respectable Tolkien marathon.

@earlyre Not even King Kong? It was really quite good for a creature feature.

I recommend Glen watches all the Harry Potter movies
LotR is so incredibly too long...I actually think I could read the books faster!

@bluedyn Tim Benzedrine and Hashberry on dope? Say it isn't so!
