@jst1ofknd Thanks for the offer, but I doubt if you live in the land of Oz. Anyway, I’ve penciled in my activation for Wednesday – maybe Thursday. Hopefully I can do it by Saturday or Sunday?
@Barney I see you carefully didn’t mention the actual date… perhaps you were thinking some random day of the week in 2019? <laughing>
I have only had a smart phone a bit over 2 years. I let walmart set it up and transfer the number (smart talk card). I was worried I’d screw up the phone number transfer (which, by the way, be prepared for a short lag between the landline being cut off and your cell active with that number - at least that was my experience with smart talk). Might do it that way (eg go into the provider and have them do it) if that is part of your hesitancy.
My previous cell (which I kept in the ghetto van for calling tow trucks - common as I had that thing for 25 years before it croaked for good) was a new number, Net 10, 150 min a month, no internet flip phone so no biggie if I accidentally screwed it up. So I activated it immediately with no issues.
@Barney@RiotDemon Someone remotely helped me replace a hard drive on a laptop. I’m a dumb shit and there were screws everywhere and these ribbon cable thingies and I managed to do it. If I can do that you can activate your phone. You may even be able to find a youtube video to help.
@Barney Maybe you can get a friend with a cell phone to come over, use their phone to call them and then activate your new phone while on the phone with them with your friend’s phone.
I bet $10 she hasn’t.
@RiotDemon
I only bet bottle caps or plastic gold coins…
Can you hear me now?
@Barney
Is that a yes? Because I can’t hear you as I am reading the text of your reply…
@jst1ofknd
That’s a no.
I’m a bad girl.
@Barney
How much per month are you paying for an unactivated phone?
@jst1ofknd The phone is paid for. There is no service fee until I activate it.
@Barney
So how expensive is the box you are letting gather dust?
You wait to long and it’ll be obsolete before you start using it.
If you were in my area, I wouldn’t mind meeting up with you to help.

@Kidsandliz Project Fi will be my service provider. They do not have a place I can go to for help, only their customer service by phone or internet.
@Barney we are here to help. The phone won’t be that scary.
@RiotDemon Thanks. I’ve had a number of mehtizens offer to help me. I’ll probably need all of the help I can get.
I am such a dumb shit.
@Barney don’t be discouraged. You should just activate it and get it over with.

@Barney @RiotDemon
Wrong.
Know nothing. Not dumb. (Precise language, please. )
The way you stop being know nothing is to get the phone out of the box and start messing with it.
If something “breaks” then just reset it
If something bricks the phone then put in a warranty claim.
These are both so unlikely it is not worth mentioning odds.
This is analogous to riding a bike or playing the piano. You have to mess with it and practice and try things in order to learn.
Re activation.
From what I have heard the problems might be with porting. Nothing you can do to prevent those.
Just get started. These eventually get ironed out.
I know no more on that topic.

@Barney
I’ve driven through the land of OZ on my way to Colorado from Oklahoma and on my way to Oklahoma from Nebraska (or whatever state is north of you).
@CaptAmehrican Easy peasy, huh?
Edit: I do have a purple case.
@Barney
And remember. Always keep a spare phone battery in your refrigerator.
/giphy the more you know
@shahnm don’t you mean a battery pack?
@Kidsandliz TomAto tomaato…
@Kidsandliz @shahnm is that like JudgeIto?
